Bersamin, 2 Cabinet officials tapped as caretakers during Marcos' US trip
Bersamin said the two officials are Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla and Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrado Estrella III.
'The order of the President is to continue the work while he is away. Anyway, we keep in constant communication with him during all the time that he is away from the country,' Bersamin told reporters.
'Wala naman kailangan na ilagay niyang specific because each of us, including the other cabinet secretaries, we are all aware of what the President has set for us to do, so we will just leave it like that and everybody continues to function 100%,' he added.
(There's no need for the President to assign anything specific because each of us, including the other Cabinet secretaries, are already aware of what he expects from us. So we'll just leave it at that, and everyone will continue to function at 100%)
Marcos on Sunday departed for the United States for an official visit, which includes a meeting with US President Donald Trump.
Among the topics Marcos and Trump will discuss is the steep 20% tariff rate on Filipino goods entering the US, as Manila hopes to strike a mutually acceptable and beneficial tariff deal.
Bersamin also said the President could include discussions during his Washington trip in his fourth State of the Nation Address.
"We can expect that. If he wants to include that, if there is anything worth reporting, we can expect it," Bersamin said.
The President's visit will be from July 20 to 22, 2025.
Aside from Trump, Marcos will have a meeting with US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio on July 21.
Several businesses in the US also expressed their intention to meet with the Philippine leader, Department of Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Raquel Solano said. — RF, GMA Integrated News

Rights groups slam US ‘deterrence' policy as Marcos flies to meet Trump
A human rights coalition on Sunday denounced the upcoming bilateral talks between President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. and US President Donald Trump, saying it represents the Philippines' 'subservience' to Washington and supports the 'peace through deterrence" strategy. The International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines (ICHRP) made the remarks as it called for an end to the 'increasing' US militarization in the country, warning it may 'bring more war and destruction to the Filipino people' and may 'further plunge the most marginalized in Philippines society into poverty'. 'The US military build-up in the Philippines is not defensive nor geared towards peace, but aggressive war preparations that put the Filipino people at risk to be collateral damage in a war with China. The Filipino people don't want to be a battlefield for a great power war,' said ICHRP chairperson Peter Murphy. 'ICHRP urges all nations in the region to deescalate the frightening military buildup towards war,' he added. Marcos departed for Washington. D.C. on Sunday an official visit which includes a meeting with Trump. He said his visit aims to push for 'greater economic engagement' and to reaffirm the Philippine's 'commitment to fostering our long-standing alliances as an instrument of peace and a catalyst of development in the Asia-Pacific region and around the world.' 'Trade must be a partnership, not a surrender. If we give away our rights today, we sell out the future of every Filipino,' the legislator said. Early this month, the US government issued tariff notices to several trading partners including the Philippines, which he slapped with a 20% duty, higher than what he previously announced reciprocal tariff rate of 17% in April. 'As a sovereign country, the tariff agreement with the US should also be reciprocal. The US does not seem to regard us as a sovereign state, nor can we see the value of any so-called treaty allies any longer,' said Marcos. 'No president should sign away our sovereignty—not for gold, not for promises, not for alliances,' she said. Data from the US Trade Representative showed that the US goods trade deficit with the Philippines stood at $4.9 billion in 2024, up 21.8% from 2023. US total goods trade with the Philippines amounted to about $23.5 billion in 2024, with American goods exports to the Philippines amounting to $9.3 billion, up 0.4%, while goods imports totaled $14.2 billion. VP Sara: ICC, Marcos worked together to take down Duterte
Vice President Sara Duterte on Saturday claimed that the Marcos administration had colluded with the International Criminal Court to take down her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte. In her speech during the Free Duterte Now rally in The Hague, Netherlands, Sara said the ICC decided to prosecute her father for crimes against humanity, with the help of the Marcos administration, in relation to the war on drugs despite questions surrounding claims about unlawful killings. 'Ano sabi nila? 30,000 dead. Nagsimula sila sa 12[000]. Umakyat sila sa 15,000. Umakyat sila sa 30,000. Lahat ng mga namatay - DDS. Pero kung hingin mo sa kanila ang listahan, walang listahan ng 30,000. At anong lumabas sa charges nila? 43 counts of murder. 'Mayroong tao diyan sa loob ng ICC detention na nakakulong na ang pinagbasehan ay marites… Meron tayong dating pangulo na nakakulong dahil ginawa niya ang kanyang trabaho para sa bayan,' she said. DPWH rushing San Juanico Bridge repair to meet December 2025 deadline
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is expediting the repairs of San Juanico Bridge to increase its load limit to 12 - 15 tons by December this year, Secretary Manuel Bonoan said Sunday. 'Ongoing ang repairs sa San Juanico Bridge at pinapaspasan na namin para makaabot kami sa deadline ng Presidente,' Bonoan told Super Radyo dzBB. (Repairs on the San Juanico Bridge are ongoing, and we're expediting the work to meet President Ferdinand Marcos Jr's deadline.) This move came after Marcos said he wanted to restore the bridge's capacity after a three-ton load limit had been imposed since May 15, after an assessment showed that there are significant structural compromises to the bridge. 'That's a test, sabi ko pag hindi niyo natapos 'yan, tatanggapin ko 'yung resignation ninyo,' Marcos warned. (That's a test, if you don't finish that, I'll accept your resignation.) The President had said more than P500 million has already been allocated for the San Juanico Bridge's repair.
