Married People Are Sharing The Moment They Knew Their Partner Was "The One"

Yahoo20-05-2025
They say when you know you know, but how do people actually know that they've found their person? Redditor ArtemisMendez asked, "For married redditors, what was the moment that you thought, 'I'm gonna marry this man/woman?'" Here is what people in long-term, committed relationships said while looking back.
1."When he blurted out that he loved me so much (for the very first time) during a quick lunch date because we had just found out we both hated eggnog. He tried to play it off like it was not a big deal. I didn't trust my own judgement back then, but my gut already said he's the one. It's been 11 years together, we've been married for five and a half years, we have an almost one-year-old baby."

2."We had a new dog, a six-month-old basset mix picked up from Craigslist. She had a bunch of problem behaviors like peeing when we came into the house, and she was super pushy about wanting to lick our faces. My boyfriend of the time came home one day and she peed on the rug, and he got really frustrated and mad. I told him that he needed to make a decision today. Either we take her back, or he figures out how to train her to work with our lives. But I would not accept him getting angry at her...."
"... He got really quiet and thought for a minute- he then said, 'I want to keep her.' And it was like a switch flipped. He was on YouTube and online the next few days looking up dog training tutorials, and we came up with a plan to take her outside in the front yard. Whenever we came home, she'd be outside immediately. Then we went through crate training and whatnot. He never got mad at that dog again. She was attached to his hip, snuggled as his little spoon in bed every night, and absolutely loved him. Watching him go through that and become a better person for that dog was the 'moment' I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him."

3."I got severe food poisoning. It was the most unwell I've ever been in my life, and he literally cleaned me up in the shower. He cleaned the floors and bathroom and bought me a whole bunch of new PJs. We hadn't even been together very long, and he is an absolute goof and could have easily made jokes (to lighten the mood) both at the time and long after, but he never did. He knew how sick I was, and more so how humiliating I found the whole thing."

4."She drove on our first date. I was looking through her CD collection, as you did at the time, and found Tenacious D. I just put it in the CD player and we did car karaoke through the whole album."
MickeyCrisco
5."After dating and living together for three years, I tried to think about my future, and I could not for the life of me picture a future without her in it. So I knew, and over 25 years later, the best part of our day is getting to see each other."
Old-Revolution-1663
6."We were long-distance. When we met for the first time after eight months of talking. They knew I was allergic to flowers, so they got me broccoli (my favorite vegetable) stalks wrapped in ribbon. It was the most thoughtful thing anyone had ever done for me. Someone had actually gone out of their way to make sure I felt special and welcome. Six years later, and it's the best decision I've ever made."
QueerTchotchke
7."We were at dinner with his family, and he has a younger brother who is on the spectrum. His brother ordered something weird to show off, and my now-husband quietly ordered something he knew his brother would actually lik,e so when his brother eventually melted down, my husband could offer to trade. I knew right then I wanted to marry someone who knew and cared about their family to that extent."
MinuteMaidMarian
8."We had one date, which was a disaster for many reasons. I assumed that date was the last, and didn't expect to ever see him again. A few days later, I get a call at work. They said, 'Your husband is on the phone.' He immediately popped into my mind. He apologized profusely and said he didn't know why he had asked for his wife. I guess we knew. We've been married for 25 years."
GoalieMom53
9."We left his house to go out somewhere, and he told his dog in a totally normal voice, 'We're going out now, we will be back soon.' There was not an ounce of embarrassment about talking to his dog like he was people in front of his new girlfriend. I knew there and then he was a keeper."

10."We're not married yet, but we're engaged and have been together 12 years. I knew he was the one when, about six months in, he noticed my anxiety spike at a party, and I started getting overwhelmed. He pretended he was really tired and asked if I was ready to head home to bed. We stopped off and got a snack, and as we walked back to his, it started to snow. He looked at me and said, 'This is way better than any party, and that was it, I knew."
Dabbles-In-Irony
11."It was when we moved in together. When we were dating, I was renting a condo, and the owner decided to sell, which meant I needed a new place to live. She said, 'Why don't you just move in with me?' So I did. After about a week, I knew I wanted to marry her. I can't say it was any one thing in particular. Just knew it was right. We were married less than a year later."
whole_chocolate_milk
12."He stayed with me through months of health issues. I got diagnosed with a brain tumor a month into dating. He's still here, but the tumor is not."
Neat-Professor-3075
13."I had a cat that he did not like, or that he pretended not to like. He used to talk about how he just wasn't a cat person. But then one day, when he didn't realize I was home, I heard him singing a little song to my cat about how pretty she was and how cute her little paws were. That was the moment I knew. He does admit now that he is, in fact, a cat person."
SierraSeaWitch
14."I met my now spouse when we were in college. We'd been dating for a few months when a stomach bug went around the dorm, and it hit me like a truck. It got them, too, but milder, so they were taking care of me while I puked my guts out. I remember talking to my mom on the phone, explaining how I was doing and how this person I'd been dating was making me drink ginger ale and disposing of my ruined trash can, and she said they sounded like a keeper. It will be 12 years this summer. Married three. There were lots of moments in those years that made me want to marry them, but that was the first."

15."It felt easy to make her happy. No acting, no need to triple-check what I was going to say or do. There was no question about whether she was being genuine or just humoring me... Every interaction just felt comfortable, like being wrapped in a blanket on a cold evening by the fire. It was different from every other relationship I had been in."
—Theduckintheroom
16."I notoriously overthink my relationships to an OCD extent. I know my girls, the one because no matter what headspace I'm in, I know I'd do anything to make her bad days better. It's the most selfless I've felt towards a person."
—BoredomRanger
17."On our first date. His passion for comic books stood out to me. We talked for hours about our likes/dislikes, characters, story arcs, artists, and writers. I realized he is just as much of a nerd as I am, and I never wanted to leave his side. Happily married now, with a storage unit full of comics. He's my best friend."
—Upbeat-Squirrel-9717
18."It was one of our first dates. We drove to a tulip festival in Washington State, where we lived at the time. We spent all day together, joking and enjoying ourselves, and when we got back, I realized I wanted to keep hanging out with her, even though we didn't live together. She's one of the only people I've ever met whom I don't get tired of being around. We have our fights, sure, but we might take 30 minutes or an hour apart, and both come back apologizing. 14 years and nine years of marriage later, and I still never get sick of her."
—stuark
19."I was cooking us dinner, listening to music. A song I'd never heard came on, and I imagined her in a wedding dress walking towards me. I began to sob and knew it was time to ask her to marry me. We had our first dance to that song at our wedding two years later."

Idris Elba reveals shocking revelation about ‘The Wire'

Stringer Bell isn't a fan. Idris Elba rose to fame on the acclaimed HBO crime drama 'The Wire,' but he recently made a shocking admission: he's never seen the show, and refuses to watch it. 'If I'm really honest, I didn't watch 'The Wire,'' Elba, 52, shared on a recent episode of Amy Poehler's 'Good Hang' podcast. 'I didn't watch it. And I feel bad. It's not that I'm not a fan of it — I was there. I made a show that was, you know, so intense and so real, so important, even though we didn't realize it,' the 'Luther' star added. Elba added, 'I didn't participate in its celebration as a viewer, as a fan. And so I feel a little bit outside of the club.' 'The Wire' aired on HBO from 2002 to 2008, following various institutions in Baltimore, Maryland, and their intersections with law enforcement. It starred Elba, Dominic West, the late Lance Reddick, the late Michael Kenneth Williams, Wendell Pierce, and a pre-fame Michael B. Jordan. 8 Idris Elba on 'The Wire' in 2005. The role was his big break in Hollywood – the Golden Globe-winning actor had previously been in British shows like 'London's Burning' and did small roles such as a 1 episode guest stint on 'Law and Order.' But 'The Wire' put him in the spotlight. Since then, Elba has become a global superstar, and his name has frequently been put forward as a public favorite candidate to be the next James Bond. 8 Idris Elba in 'Luther.' ©Netflix/Courtesy Everett Collection 8 Idris Elba with John Cena in 'Head of State.' Chiabella James/Prime Poehler told Elba that 'The Wire' was 'a series that changed my life' and told him that she's watched the show at least three times. When she encouraged him to watch it, he said, 'No, man.' 'You can't watch it now?' the former 'Saturday Night Live' star asked. 'But I bet, Idris, I bet you have a feeling about it that you might be kinder to yourself and [the show], watching it now.' 8 Idris Elba at Amazon's 'Heads Of State' World Premiere on Jun 24, 2025. So to me, it was almost a bit like I was Stringer Bell. I'm not Stringer Bell, but I also feel like when Stringer Bell died, there was a part of me that died with that character. It's weird for me to go back and watch it.' He added that he hates becoming 'overly conscious' of his performance. 'I like being in it rather than watching it.'

Travis Kelce reveals how long Taylor Swift's surprise Tight End U performance had been in the works

Taylor Swift's performance at Tight End University in Nashville last week wasn't a surprise to everyone. During Wednesday's installment of the 'New Heights' podcast, star Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce explained that he and the 14-time Grammy winner pre-planned her on-stage appearance at the Tight Ends & Friends event, where she performed a rendition of her hit song 'Shake It Off' with country singer Kane Brown. 'We're in Nashville, she grew up in Nashville, she moved there when she was younger, and yeah, we had this planned for a while that we were going to have some fun with the tight ends, especially tight ends and friends, all the evening events,' Kelce told his brother and co-host, Jason Kelce. 3 Taylor Swift performed a rendition of her hit song, 'Shake It Off' at Tight End University in Nashville. X 'I'll say this, I won't say when the idea came up, but when we were there at tight end and friends, and we knew there was a professional like Kane Brown, who can figure it out, he's a pro, he's been on stage a million times he's not shy at all by any means, he's a true professional. 'Tay just kind of went up to him and the band and was just like, 'Hey, if you guys are down, I'll go up there and play a song and see if we can pop the roof of this place.' She's so good with everybody, just people and making people feel comfortable in it and rocked the stage yet again. It was awesome.' The three-time Super Bowl champ explained that Swift wrote sheet music for the band, adding she 'killed it,' despite not practicing before hitting the Brooklyn Bowl stage in Tennessee. Swift played the guitar while the crowd sang along to her 2014 smash single, including Kelce, who was seen backstage in social media videos. 3 Travis Kelce revealed that he and Taylor Swift pre-planned her performance at Tight End University, which took place in Nashville in June 2025. YouTube/New Heights It marked her first live performance since her blockbuster Eras Tour wrapped on Dec. 8, 2024, in Vancouver. 'Was this her first time in an event sponsored by Dude Wipes?' Jason asked. 'It has to be the first and only, I would assume,' the Chiefs star jokingly replied. 3 Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce take in Game 4 of the NHL hockey Stanley Cup Final between the Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers in Sunrise, Fla., Thursday, June 12, 2025. AP Swift joined Kelce at this year's TEU for multiple events, where she spent time with other wives and girlfriends of fellow tight ends, including Claire Kittle, the wife of 49ers' George Kittle. Kelce, Kittle and retired tight end Greg Olsen co-founded TEU in 2021 in Nashville as a means for other tight ends to train and bond over the position.

I was a flat-chested body positivity influencer — until I was ‘canceled' for getting implants

A flat-chested body positivity influencer says she's been 'canceled' for getting a boob job – but insists she 'loves' her new body. Clara Dao, 26, garnered almost eight million followers on social media making content about being flat-chested for six years but, three months ago, in March 2025, she got a $3,398.56 boob job. Advertisement Clara went from a bra size 32AA to a 32C and is 'loving' her new chest but says many of her followers 'hate' her choice, calling her a 'hypocrite.' But, despite the backlash, Clara insists she doesn't regret undergoing the procedure, as it's given her a new, 'feminine' kind of confidence. Clara, originally from Hanoi but currently living in Danang, Vietnam, said: 'I fully expected I would be cancelled once I announced my boob job. 'I've lost a lot of followers – around 500,000 across all my platforms. Advertisement 4 Clara Dao, 26, garnered almost eight million followers on social media, making content about being flat-chested for six years. Clara Dao / SWNS 'Losing followers doesn't come as a shock. 'I built my following based on that one single message of loving your natural body, your flat chest, especially. 'A big part of my following followed me for that message.' Advertisement Size XS, Clara says she was taunted and 'skinny-shamed' through college in Canada for her flat chest. She bought weight-gain supplements and syrups off Instagram in a bid to put on pounds and even stuck her ideal Kardashian body on her mirror to manifest it. In February 2019, she started uploading YouTube videos documenting her journey to self-acceptance. Advertisement She said, 'I lived and breathed the message of body positivity. I created content about it every day, day in, day out.' But six years of making content later, she said her perception had changed. Clara said, 'I felt boxed into that content. 'People just knew me as 'the flat-chested girl.' 'As long as I had my flat chest, I could fall back on it and increase my subscribers, and things would just be the same. 'Creatively, I feel boxed in; I don't feel passionate about the content I did anymore. I don't want that option anymore. 'I got the surgery because I was bored. I wanted to get out of the trap of making content about my flat chest. 4 Size XS, Dao says she was taunted and 'skinny-shamed' through college in Canada for her flat chest. Clara Dao / SWNS Advertisement 'I had a lot of self-love and body positivity before, and I have a lot of self-love now.' Clara underwent the two-hour surgery on March 5 at a clinic in Danang, Vietnam, where she had moved with her boyfriend at the time from Canada just a week before. She said, 'It was pretty impulsive. I had the idea at the beginning of February and had the surgery exactly a month later. 'I had the surgery in Vietnam – it's quite different from having the surgery in the UK or America, you could have the surgery the next day if you want. Advertisement 'With the surgery itself, I had slight complications. 'The wound on my left side didn't close for two, three weeks, so it took a bit longer to heal, but nothing major. The service here is very good. They checked the wound every day. 'It really hurt for the first three days. I'd need help getting up and down from the bed, and I couldn't do certain movements with my arms. Advertisement 'But after a month, you get back basically to normal.' Clara says she's 'very impulsive', but doesn't regret the decision at all. She said: 'I'm very happy with the results. Now it just feels like it's part of me. 'In the first month, your skin feels very stretched out, tight, and heavy. But after three months, it feels normal, it's getting softer and softer. Advertisement Clara – who is moving to LA for a 'brand new start' – said: 'The reaction to the surgery from my immediate circle is very positive, my friends and family know I did it because I wanted a change. 'My family has always encouraged me to get the surgery since I was 17, since before I started making the content. 4 In March 2025, Dao got a $3,400 boob job, thinking that she was going to get cancelled. Clara Dao / SWNS 'There's a cultural difference. In Asia, people are a lot more image-focused. 'They want you to show the best version of yourself, no flaws, especially online. 'When I first started social media and showed my flat chest, showed my imperfections, belly rolls, acne, skin texture, my family was against that for a very long time. But I never really listened to them.' Clara says the backlash has been 'pretty brutal.' 4 'I got the surgery because I was bored. I wanted to get out of the trap of making content about my flat chest,' Dao said. 'I had a lot of self-love and body positivity before, and I have a lot of self-love now.' Clara Dao / SWNS She said: 'Before, when I did flat chest content, most of the hate came from guys, saying you look like a guy, you look ugly, you're like a piece of wood. 'Now my hate comes from women, saying you're a hypocrite, you're so fake. 'A lot of people won't understand. I accept that I won't be understood by most people, especially my fans. 'The first video I made was about doing what you love. That's the deeper message I want to spread with my content.
