Will Ana de Armas' Ballerina get a sequel? Here's what we know about the future of John Wick spinoff so far
Ana de Armas stunned audiences with her fierce performance in Ballerina, the latest addition to the John Wick universe. The film, which premiered on June 6, 2025, follows Rooney, a young ballerina trained as an assassin, as she hunts down the people responsible for her family's murder.
Set between John Wick: Chapter 3 and Chapter 4, the movie combines elegant choreography with brutal action and emotional depth, and fans are already wondering if there's more to come.
The director definitely left the door open
Director Len Wiseman has hinted that this might not be the last we see of Ana's Rooney. While speaking about the casting of Norman Reedus as the mysterious Daniel Pine in the new film, he shared that Pine's role was designed with future stories in mind. He admitted that although the main focus was on this film, the characters were created to have paths that could continue.
"I cast Norman Reedus because I have plans for him," Wiseman told Entertainment Weekly. "And I would love to see him come back in a way that he's now kind of indebted to her."
The producers are already thinking ahead
Even before the film's release, producer Erica Lee spoke about the potential for more. Back in 2023, she said they had already started discussing a follow-up and that Ana de Armas was expected to return. She called the early plans "hopeful" and hinted that Ballerina could become a key part of a larger universe that ties in with John Wick 5.
Ballerina's ties to the John Wick world
Ballerina is not just a side story. It takes place between John Wick: Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 and features several familiar faces, including Keanu Reeves as Wick himself, Anjelica Huston, Lance Reddick, and Ian McShane. This direct connection to the main timeline makes the spinoff feel like part of something much bigger, not just a one-time detour.
So, is Ballerina 2 happening?
There's no official confirmation yet, but all signs point to yes. With the cast and crew already talking about continuing the story and the way the film fits into the larger John Wick world, it feels like Ballerina was built to be the start of something more.
Fans will just have to stay tuned. But if the excitement around the film is any clue, Rooney's story probably isn't over just yet.

‘Soulm8te' makes dark AI drama a reality: James Wan hints at adult take on M3GAN
M3GAN Though M3GAN 2.0 has just arrived in theaters, producer James Wan is already planting the seeds for an edgier, more mature installment in the expanding AI horror franchise. SOULM8TE, a spinoff, veers sharply from the PG-13 fun of its predecessor and dives into psychological territory—one colored by loss, fixation, and sensual curiosity. Released in January 2024, SOULM8TE is slated for a theatrical release on January 9, 2026. Under the direction of You Are Not My Mother's Kate Dolan , the film explores the emotional devastation of a man grieving the loss of his wife and the dangerous path he takes when attempting to fill that void with an AI companion. The cast includes Claudia Doumit (The Boys), David Rysdahl (Oppenheimer), Lily Sullivan (Evil Dead Rise), and Oliver Cooper (Californication). James Wan teases a new kind of horror In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Wan described the tone and direction of SOULM8TE, likening it to 1990s erotic thrillers. "M3GAN exists in that PG-13 realm and appeals to a younger demographic. But we always knew we had an adult tale to tell," Wan said. "SOULM8TE exists in that realm but is much more adult—sounding like Fatal Attraction, but with robots." The spinoff promises not only a deeper emotional core but also the darkest humor seen so far in the franchise. While M3GAN became iconic for her sassy one-liners and meme-worthy moments, Wan made it clear that SOULM8TE won't aim to replicate that same energy. 'It's hard to duplicate M3GAN's sass, and honestly, we're not trying to,' he added. 'This film has its own voice—more twisted, more adult, and more psychologically intense.' A new identity in a familiar world Although its timeline coincides with that of M3GAN, SOULM8TE will stand alone as a darker, edgier entry in the franchise. Instead of recycling the formula that made M3GAN go viral, the creative team aims to push the boundaries of sci-fi horror by exploring human grief, emotional vulnerability, and the blurred lines between love and obsession—all in the context of cutting-edge technology.

Exciting updates on 'The Batman 2': Script completion announced by Matt Reeves
After several delays, the DC fans eventually got some great news about the much-awaited sequel to 'The Batman'. The photo of the completed script was shared by the writer, as well as director Matt Reeves , on Friday. In the Instagram post, Reeves shared 'Partners in Crime (Fighters),' mentioning his co-writer Tomlin. Even though the first page of the script is blurred, the logo of The Batman is clearly visible. The fans were too excited and were also waiting for a longer time for news about 'The Batman Part II,' which was at first announced in April 2022, right after the original Robert Pattinson-led film hit theaters. 'The Batman' update comes just a few weeks before the launch of James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC Universe with the release of 'Superman' in theaters. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn resolved fans' online frustration about the delay in 'The Batman Part II' script. 'Listen, we're supposed to get a script in June. I hope that happens. We feel really good about it,' Gunn told. And also defended Matt Reeves and said, 'People should get off Matt's nuts because it's like, let the guy write the screenplay in the amount of time he needs to write it. That's just the way it is. He doesn't owe you something because you like his movie. I mean, you like his movie because of Matt. So let Matt do things the way he does. ' Gunn added further, 'I am irritated by people. I mean, it's just that thing people don't need to be entitled about. It's going to come out when he feels good about the screenplay. And Matt's not going to give me the screenplay until he feels good about the screenplay.'
