Iraq's PM launches construction works of phase one of Second Beiji Gas-Fired Power Plant
BAGHDAD: Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani launched on Saturday the construction works for the first phase of the Second Beiji Gas Power Plant in Salah al-Din Province, with a total capacity of 1,014 megawatts. The Iraqi News Agency (INA) quoted a statement from the Media Office of the Prime Minister, in which Al-Sudani commended the efforts made to prepare for the launch of this vital project, affirming that the energy sector is a cornerstone of any comprehensive development plan. He explained that the government has allocated the necessary financial resources to develop all sectors of electricity—generation, transmission, and distribution—in order to improve energy production across all regions of the country. The project will be implemented by a consortium of Siemens Energy (Germany) and CSCEC (China). The contract includes the rehabilitation of six Siemens gas generation units, each with a capacity of 169 megawatts, for a total capacity of 1,014 megawatts. It also includes the establishment of a load dispatching network consisting of seven circuits at 400 kilovolts, which will feed six lines into the national grid, as well as the construction of a new 132-kilovolt network comprising 16 lines to serve Salah al-Din Province. The first two units are scheduled to be operational within 27 months, followed by the remaining units at a rate of one unit every two months.

Azerbaijan to export 1.2bln cubic metres of gas to Syria through Turkey annually
KILIS, Turkey: Azerbaijan will export 1.2 billion cubic metres (bcm) of gas annually through Turkey to Syria from the BP-operated Shah Deniz gas field in the Azeri Caspian Sea, a senior official at Azeri state energy company SOCAR told Reuters on Saturday. Turkey supported rebel forces in neighbouring Syria throughout the 13-year civil war that ended with the ousting of Bashar al-Assad in December and has become one of the new Syrian government's main foreign allies. Ankara is now positioning itself to be a major player in Syria's reconstruction. SOCAR Vice President Elshad Nasirov was speaking at a ceremony in the southern Turkish city of Kilis, close to the Syrian border, as Turkey and Azerbaijan launched natural gas exports to Syria. Azerbaijan's Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov said the project followed agreements in April and July between Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev and Syria's new President Ahmad al-Sharaa. Gas will be transported through Turkish territory to Syria under a coordinated arrangement, Jabbarov said. "By launching gas exports to Syria, Azerbaijan has demonstrated that it is capable of exporting gas not only to the West, but also to the East and the South," he said at the event. Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said deliveries were expected to reach around 6 million cubic metres (mcm) per day. While the current delivery plan foresees exports of 1.2 bcm annually, Bayraktar said there was potential to supply up to 2 bcm per year in the first phase. The gas will be used to restart power plants in Syria with a combined capacity of 1,200 megawatts, Bayraktar said. Syrian Energy Minister Mohammad al-Bashir said the gas supplies would support basic energy needs in areas affected by conflict. He said the gas would allow for an additional four hours of electricity per day in those areas by increasing generation by around 750 MW. Al-Bashir also said that while the agreement foresees daily deliveries of 6 mcm, the initial volume would be around 3.4 mcm per day. Oman's Integrated Gas Company approves new gas pipeline worth $273mln
CAIRO: Oman's state-owned Integrated Gas Company approved a new gas pipeline worth 105 million Omani riyals ($272.73 million), state news agency ONA said on Saturday. The pipeline will contribute to a 4.5% increase in the national gas network's length, ONA said. The pipeline will extend from the city of Ibri to Sohar, with an additional connection serving Ibri's industrial area.
