Puri stampede: Congress leader Rama Chandra Kadam blames state govt for mismanagement
He also highlighted the alleged incidents of journalists being assaulted, saying that both incidents 'prove the government's incompetence.'

'It is deeply saddening that during the world-famous Rath Yatra, devotees lost their lives due to a stampede-like situation in front of the Gundicha Temple in Puri. This tragic incident has clearly exposed the mismanagement of the state government and administration in the eyes of countless devotees of Lord Jagannath,' he added.
Talking about the alleged mistreatment of journalists, Kadam had said on June 27 that there were 'shocking incidents of police brutality' at Puri.

Earlier today, atleast 3 people died and several others were injured in a stampede which took place during the Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri. Visuals from the postmortem centre in Puri showed families of victims gathered outside the facility.
Earlier today, Odisha Law minister Prithiviraj Harichandan confirmed that all arrangements have been made to ensure that the injured are provided medical care, while also condoling the death of 3 people.
The minister said, 'Today, I am deeply saddened and heartbroken to hear about the incident at Shri Kshetra near Shri Gundicha Temple, where three devotees lost their lives due to a stampede during the darshan of the Chaturdhamurti... On behalf of the state government, all arrangements have been made at the Puri District Headquarters Hospital to provide the best medical care to the injured individuals. Along with this, I pray for the speedy recovery of all the injured persons.' (ANI)

DRDO guest house manager arrested for spying for Pakistan, allegedly shared classified data
Rajasthan Police on Tuesday said it had detained a manager of a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) guest house in Jaisalmer over suspicions of being a spy for Pakistan. The accused, Mahendra Prasad, is a resident of Almora in Uttarakhand. He was posted as the manager of DRDO guest house in Chandan area of Jaisalmer. 'He was detained on Monday. A joint interrogation will be conducted today,' Jaisalmer Superintendent of Police Abhishek Shivhare said today. 'He is suspected to have provided sensitive information related to strategic operations and activities in the region,' the police have revealed. Jaisalmer is a strategic location for the DRDO. The defence agency conducts tests and trials of missiles and weapons in Pokhran firing range in Jaisalmer, and experts and officials involved in the process stay in the guest house. 'He (Prasad) reportedly shared classified data, including military movements and defence trials, with the ISI across the border,' sources quoted by ANI said. The area surrounding the guest house includes active military zones of both the Army and Air Force, where defence-related operations are carried out year-round. Intelligence officials believe Singh had access to these activities and passed on details to Pakistan's intelligence operatives, according to ANI. 'Further interrogation is expected to uncover the extent of the information he may have leaked,' Shivhare said. He added that Prasad would be brought for extensive questioning by all the security and intelligence agencies. As per the ANI report, the accused allegedly used a mobile phone to transmit information across the border. This mobile phone is suspected to have been provided to him by ISI agents operating within India. Indian authorities have arrested several individuals amid a crackdown on spies who have been allegedly leaking information to Pakistan. In May, authorities detained an engineer in Thane for allegedly passing sensitive information about warships and submarines with a Pakistani intelligence agent. Another prominent arrest in such a case is that of Jyoti Malhotra, a travel influencer believed to be sharing sensitive information with Pakistan.

NGT steps in over toxic waste crisis at Chandigarhs Dadumajra Dump
New Delhi [India], August 5 (ANI): The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has initiated suo motu proceedings following media reports of a growing environmental and public health crisis at the Dadumajra dumping ground in Chandigarh. It stated that a news article published on July 23 revealed that leachate–polluted liquid runoff from the accumulated waste–has started contaminating nearby fields and water bodies, including the Patiala Ki Rao Choe. Heavy monsoon rains have worsened the situation, prompting serious concern among local have reported an alarming surge in respiratory illnesses, skin infections, and even serious diseases like tuberculosis and cancer due to toxic waste mixing with rainwater and seeping into residential zones. The unbearable stench from decomposing waste and chemical runoff has further degraded everyday living conditions in the surrounding Tribunal noted several environmental laws had been violated, including the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986; Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016; Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974; and Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981. The bench, led by Justice Prakash Shrivastava and supported by Dr A Senthil Vel and Dr Afroz Ahmad, attributed the unfolding crisis to ongoing mismanagement and delayed action by scheduled to be cleared by May 31, the dumping site remained unaddressed. On the deadline itself, a massive fire erupted, requiring more than 1.25 lakh litres of water to extinguish. Despite a revised cleanup target set for July, the waste still remains uncleared, heightening response, the Tribunal issued notices to the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee, the Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh, and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
