The McLaren P1 Evo Is a Redesigned One-Off of the Iconic Hypercar
Frank Stephenson, the original designer of the McLaren P1, is revisiting his design to create a one-of-one McLaren P1 Evo.
The car in question is being built from YouTuber Freddy "Tavarish" Hernandez's personal P1, which was flooded during Hurricane Ian in 2022.
The P1 Evo will be Stephenson's return to the automotive industry after moving to other sectors in 2018.
It's not like the McLaren P1 needed a redesign. The 903-hp hybrid hypercar already resembles something out of a George Lucas fever dream. But when disaster strikes and you're left with a million-plus-dollar hypercar that lost a water balloon fight to a hurricane, well, then a redesign might be your best course of action.

That's where Frank Stephenson comes in. He's the original designer of the P1, along with a slew of other cars—ever heard of the Ferrari F430 or the Maserati MC12? After YouTuber Freddy "Tavarish" Hernadez's personal P1 was flooded in Hurricane Ian back in 2022, he reached out to Stephenson to redesign the wrecked hypercar.
The pair has now teamed up to create what they're calling the McLaren P1 Evo—Stephenson's reimagination of his old design. The overall look of the car isn't a huge leap from the designer's first draft. The front lip is larger, and there's a new dorsal fin that starts on the lip, extends onto the hood, and continues back through the new roof scoop and giant shark fin at the rear. The redesign also adds vents to the front fenders, new doors, and some incredible-looking aerodisks on the wheels.

According to Stephenson's website, the duo is targeting to make the P1 Evo the fastest P1 ever built. The whole project is planned to be documented on Tavarish's YouTube channel and marks Stephenson's return to the automotive world after several years away.

Watch Tesla's self-driving Model Y perform a world first
In what is being described as a world first, a new car has just driven itself from the factory to the customer's home all by itself, with no one inside the vehicle. The feat was performed by a Tesla Model Y on Friday, with the electric-car maker posting a video (top) of the car's journey, which used Tesla's driver-assist Full Self-Driving (FSD) system to reach its destination. And this wasn't just a simple journey from Tesla's Texas Gigafactory in Austin to a residential address five minutes away. The trip took 30 minutes and really put the FSD system through its paces. 'This Tesla drove itself from Gigafactory Texas to its new owner's home 30 minutes away — crossing parking lots, highways, and the city to reach its new owner,' Tesla said in a comment accompanying the video, adding that the journey marked 'the first autonomous vehicle delivery of its kind in the world.' Tesla CEO Elon Musk was clearly delighted by the achievement, posting on X that the autonomous delivery had been completed a day ahead of schedule. Musk added: 'There were no people in the car at all and no remote operators in control at any point. FULLY autonomous! To the best of our knowledge, this is the first fully autonomous drive with no people in the car or remotely operating the car on a public highway.' However, as noted by some of those responding to his post, Alphabet-owned Waymo has been operating fully driverless vehicles on public highways for more than a year, so Musk is wrong on this point. Autonomous self-delivery like this has the potential to streamline the car delivery process, reduce costs, and eliminate trips, whether it's the customer heading to the dealership to pick up their new car, or staff heading back to base after dropping it off. It's a given that Tesla would like to deliver more of its new cars in this way, but it's not clear what its immediate plans are for such a system. The first-ever autonomous vehicle delivery can be marked down as a win for Tesla, and offers it some positive coverage in the wake of some less than celebratory headlines regarding its recently launched robotaxi service in Austin, Texas, a week ago. Shortly after its 10 Model Y robotaxis hit the road, reports emerged of some of the vehicles appearing to violate road rules as they carried passengers from A to B. The cars are being monitored remotely by Tesla staff and also have a human safety monitor in the front passenger seat who can intervene at any time.

An All-America City three-peat: Tallahassee 'on the move' with latest designation
The City of Tallahassee is officially a three-time All-America City. A delegation of local leaders took home the honor Sunday night after a high-energy presentation to the National Civic League conference in Denver earlier in the day. Twenty cities, ranging from Delray Beach, Fla., to Memphis, Tenn., to Austin, Texas, vied for only ten spots as an All-America City. It was a nailbiter night with Tallahassee announced as the final All-America City in the list of ten. "This community is investing in its parks," the announcer said. "This community is planning for a clean and renewable future. I'm not sure we'll be able to hear ... this magnetic city." With that, a roar went up from the audience and they chanted "Hey Tallahassee." The local delegation ascended to the stage with hugs and high fives. "We did it, We are bringing it home," Mayor John Dailey said as he hailed City Manager Reese Goad as "the best city manager anybody could work with." "You and your team are absolutely amazing." This is the third time the city has emerged victorious, having gone on to win in 1999 and 2015. The win also means Tallahassee joins an elite collection of cities that have also celebrated a three-peat, including Shreveport, La., Bloomington, Ind., Boston, Mass., Asheville, N.C., Fort Worth, Tex., and Cincinnati, Ohio. To be named an all-American city this year, cities had to show examples of "strengthening environmental sustainability through inclusive community engagement." In this year's application and presentation, the city highlighted "key community-driven initiatives" such as the Southside Action Plan, the expansion of the park system to 100 parks and the Clean Energy Plan. After marching in to the chant of "Hey Tallahassee," the delegation highlighted the three points during their presentation, which was created to emulate a tonight show format with Dailey as the host of "Capital City Tonight." 'For 200 years we have been going strong,' Dailey shouted before a hype video rolled to highlight Tallahassee landmarks and achievements. One by one, the city touted its key initiatives. "We were also the first city in Florida to power all the city municipality buildings with our solar energy," Commissioner Jack Porter said. The delegation was made up of city administrators, volunteers and advocates, including Police Chief Lawrence Revell, morning show radio host Greg Tish and southside community organizer Talethia Edwards. Four of the five city elected leaders were part of the delegation with only Commissioner Jeremy Matlow not in attendance. While trumpeting plans to transition to 100% clean energy by 2050, officials noted that over 90 percent of residents live in a ten minute walk of a park or greenspace. Dailey ended the presentation declaring Tallahassee as a place 'where history, nature and innovation truly come together with a little southern charm as well.' The School of Arts & Sciences middle school rock band Tallahassee Routes closed the presentation out to thunderous applause. Tallahassee also won the organization's social media award for best use of the platform to promote the All-America effort. The city did numerous posts and videos highlighting the city's success and plans for the Denver presentation. The latest accolades come as Tallahassee has seen a string of national recognitions that has led Dailey to proclaim that "Tallahassee is on the move." Florida's capital city was recently recognized by HGTV as one of the top 20 mid-size cities in the United States after landing on the same list in 2023. The city was also recently ranked among the top 20 "best-run cities in America," according to Wallethub. A citywide celebration of the All-America win is expected in the weeks ahead.
