Netflix adds ‘monumental' historical drama that's shooting up the charts
Netflix has recently added a critically acclaimed period drama that's already taken the third spot on the streaming platform's TV chart.
Currently just behind the global phenomenon Squid Game's third and final season and the newly released romantic-comedy series Too Much, this hit Western is being devoured by subscribers this week.
Originally released back in 2022, the series was launched from Taylor Sheridan's hugely successful Paramount Network drama, Yellowstone.
Serving as a prequel to the modern epic starring Kevin Costner, 1923 turns the clocks back by a century to explore the gritty early beginnings of the Dutton ranch.
Not only delivering thrilling answers to Yellowstone fans' most pressing questions, the spin-off series stars some of Hollywood's biggest names making the eight-episode first season a riveting binge-watch.
Featuring the likes of Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren and James Bond legend Timothy Dalton delivering career-best performances, make sure to add 1923 to the top of your Netflix watchlist - after you've already watched the four seasons of the flagship Yellowstone drama which is also available.
Don't just take it from us - fans have been raving about the stunning historical series.
One user who recently discovered the show posted on X: 'I have spared sometime for Netflix and landed on this series called 1923. I recommend it 100%.'
Someone else gave it a stirring recommendation: 'Once you start the first episode, you won't stop until the end of the last episode! Crazy series.'
Over on Google reviews, one user gave the show a full five stars and wrote: 'Taylor Sheridan delivers again, picking a monumental period in history. This entire season is set in an amazing era when the ancient world fell away and the roller coaster ride toward modernity began.
'The caliber of the acting is just top-class, especially from Ford, Mirren, and Dalton. What gravitas and finesse. It is clear this tale is a multi-season arc of survival and greed, of revenge and ambition. Can't wait to see it unfold.'

Someone else raved: 'Gut wrenching and witty and heart breaking and love inspiring. This show is a beautiful myriad of conflicting emotions that juxtapose each other in such a beautiful way that my vocabulary fails me.
'Not to mention telling the history that American public schools do not teach.
'The entire Yellowstone trilogy should be mandatory viewing in every high school across America.'
And a final viewer agreed: 'One of the best things about 1923 is how authentic the series feels. The show does an excellent job of capturing the look and feel of the American West in the early 20th century.
'From the clothing and the horseback riding, to the dusty, sprawling landscapes, everything is carefully crafted to give viewers an immersive experience.'
1923 could be one of the best dramas about the American West ever put to screen, so history buffs and TV addicts alike definitely shouldn't miss out.
1923 season 1 is available to stream on Netflix.

This is what Link looks like in The Legend Of Zelda live action movie
Nintendo has revealed the actors who will play Link and Princess Zelda in the live-action film, and we bet you've never heard of either of them. A live-action movie based on The Legend Of Zelda seems like something that has only a tiny chance of working, given how limited the story and characterisation is in the games and how difficult it would be to portray the gameplay experience without it just seeming like a generic fantasy film. An animated film seems like it would've been a much better choice, especially given how successful The Super Mario Bros. Movie was, but Nintendo has made its decision, and now it's locked down the two actors for the main roles. They're very young and not very experienced, but the photos you see here seem to be them in costume or at least are meant to be reminiscent of their appearance in the games. Although predictably, Link is not wearing a massively long, green hat. Link will be played by English actor Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, who is just 16. His most notable role is in Netflix horror show The Haunting of Bly Manor, as Miles Wingrave. Princess Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason, who is 21 but doesn't even have a proper IMDB entry yet. She's also English and her main credits so far are for Renegade Nell and BBC crime drama The Jetty. That gives an indication of the sort of accents and tone Nintendo is going for, as it follows the lead of most fantasy shows, where they try to avoid obviously American accents. Of course, in the games Link never speaks, but we very much doubt that'll be the case in the film. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. Ainsworth is so young that it raises the question of whether he's going to be the only Link in the film. In the classic Ocarina Of Time, you famously control Link as a child and then as a young adult, and while there's no indication the movie will be a direct adaptation, it could be looking to reference that element of the plot. Despite the series being named after her, Princess Zelda has very little screentime in most of the games, which is something that's probably going to change in the films. To the point where she'll likely come across as an entirely new character. This is the first real information we've had about the film, though, other than it's being produced by series creator Shigeru Miyamoto and former Marvel Studios CEO Avi Arad. More Trending The script is being written by Derek Connolly, who worked on all three pre-Rebirth Jurassic World films, which is not an encouraging thought. The director is Maze Runner's Wes Ball, who did a decent job with Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and is apparently a big fan of the games. In terms of release date, the film was originally supposed to be out in March 2027, but is now due on May 7, 2027. That's the day Avengers: Secret Wars was going to come out, until it was delayed until December. Ball has previously said that he wants to make a 'serious' but 'whimsical' film. He's also talked about it being 'grounded' and at the same time reminiscent of a live action Studio Ghibli film 'This awesome fantasy adventure movie that isn't like Lord Of The Rings, it's its own thing. I've always said, I would love to see a live-action Miyazaki. That wonder and whimsy that he brings to things, I would love to see something like that,' he said in 2023. Kristen Bell's husband shares shocking nude photo of her after Emmy nomination
Actress Kristen Bell has received her very first Emmy nomination and her actor husband Dax Shepard decided to celebrate the impressive accolade with a very unusual post Kristen Bell's husband had a very unique way of celebrating her success as she received her very first Emmy nomination. The actress' husband Dax Shepard shocked his followers when he shared a snap of Kristen in nothing but her birthday suit. She picked up the highly respected nomination for her role in Netflix series Nobody Wants This. Dax, who married Kristen in 2013, decided to post a photo of his wife doing yoga in the nude to his 4.1million followers to mark the occasion. The Frozen star posed in a downward dog position as she lifted her leg high into the air, wearing nothing but a pair of knee-high blue socks. In the carefree snap, Kristen appeared to be doing a spot of yoga in their back garden as she was joined by their little dog. Alongside the eye-catching photo, Dax teased: "People might not know everything that happens behind the scenes in order to create an Emmy nominated performance like Kristen's. This may or may not have been a part of her training, but it felt right. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!" Even the couple's celebrity friends were stunned by the post as Gwyneth Paltrow declared: "Oh my God, Dax." The Vampire Diaries' Nina Dobrev added: "Hahahaha yesssss go girl ! suns out buns out for that Emmy!!!" The raunchy post racked up 137k likes as Dax decided to limit comments. Kristen is nominated for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series at the Emmys. The show will also face off against Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Hacks, Only Murders in the Building, Shrinking, The Studio and What We Do in the Shadows for Best Comedy Series. Dax has been there supporting Kristen throughout her career as they met in 2007. She launched her acting career when she played the title character in the series Veronica Mars. Kristen later starred as Elle Bishop in Heroes and her voice is recognisable for narrating Gossip Girl. She reached further fame for voicing Princess Anna in the Disney Frozen films. Dax and Kristen announced their engagement in 2010. However, they decided to delay their marriage until the state of California legalised same-sex marriage. In 2023 she opened up about how she makes her marriage with the Hit and Run actor work, telling ET Online: "Common goals, seek them out. Our kids are a common goal, right? "People are like: 'Oh, I wouldn't be able to work with my husband or wife or partner.' For me, I want another common goal with him. I respect him so much creatively. I have so much trust in him. Of course, I want him to be my director or my scene partner.' The couple have two daughters, born in March 2013, and December 2014. Despite her long career, Kristen has only just received her first Emmy nomination for her role as Joanne in Nobody Wants This. She stars alongside Adam Brody, who plays her love interest.

No Squid Game? Or Patrick Schwarzenegger? This year's biggest Emmy surprises
I don't know if you had the time or the energy to watch today's Emmy nominations on YouTube, but if you did – and you followed along with the comments in real time – then you will know that there was one glaring omission that has sent the entire world into a screaming tailspin of panic and terror. I am talking, of course, about Thanos from Squid Game. For some, Thanos – a purple-haired Konglish-spewing drug-addicted rapper played by the Korean performer T.O.P – was the standout actor of the entire year, in any genre or format. But not only was this a bad result for Thanos, it was a bad result for Squid Game altogether. A show that comprehensively did the numbers for Netflix found itself being locked out of all categories. Still, at least it finds itself in decent company; Black Doves, Netflix's other wildly entertaining genre series, also found itself snubbed. As was The Handmaid's Tale, which is admittedly a little less surprising, given the amount of heat it has lost in the years since it debuted. While we're on snubs, you have to feel sorry for Patrick Schwarzenegger. Pretty much everyone who showed their face on The White Lotus this year found themselves nominated as a supporting performer. And yet Schwarzenegger, who arguably went on the most dramatic emotional arc of the entire season, was left off the list. This is genuinely very sad, since he was perhaps the biggest find of the show this year. While we're here, Renée Zellweger didn't get nominated for Bridget Jones (which was released as a TV movie in the States), and I would have liked to see something for Imogen Faith Reid. If you haven't seen Good American Family, it's worth it for her performance alone. Her role required some incredible modulation – she's 28, yet for reasons too convoluted to explain, had to play a character who was simultaneously seven and 21 – and for sheer complication deserved a nomination at the very least. We should also probably pour one out for The Four Seasons and Poker Face. The former had a stacked cast, and yet Colman Domingo was the only nominated performer. And the latter, despite being a tremendous amount of fun, didn't get anything major at all. True, Cynthia Erivo was deservedly nominated for her incredibly showy guest spot as seven different credited characters, but Natasha Lyonne – whose central performance holds the entire show together – was snubbed. Similarly, the show wasn't nominated for best comedy. That said, since Poker Face is ostensibly a comedy but actually a murder mystery, this could be down to genre confusion. Speaking of which, The Bear was nominated an awful lot in the comedy categories again. However, let's not hold out too much hope for it. After all, backlash over whether it deserved to qualify as a comedy meant that it lost to Hacks last year. And this year it faces stiff competition from The Studio which, like Hacks, will curry favour with voters because it's about show business. However, unlike Hacks, it is consistently funny and legitimately ambitious. In total, The Studio received 23 nominations across the board. If you're involved in any other comedy show this year, it might be a good idea to stay at home come Emmy night. In all honesty, the same probably goes for the limited series categories and Adolescence. Netflix's virtuoso one-shot wonder is nominated for basically everything it qualified for, and surely Owen Cooper is destined to become the youngest ever winner in his category. We haven't mentioned Severance, which with 27 nominations has the most of any show this year, purely because everyone who was nominated was expected to be nominated. This is with one possible exception. A lot of the online prediction articles failed to mention Patricia Arquette. The fact that she was nominated for best supporting actress shouldn't be a surprise – the woman's ability to turn from eccentric to volcanic on a dime remains unparalleled – but within the context of snubs she absolutely deserves her place. Finally there are the anti-snubs; the nominees who probably didn't deserve to be there but were anyway. In truth, this year is essentially limited to Pedro Pascal, who found himself being nominated for best actor in a drama series. If you haven't seen The Last of Us look away now, but it's hard to fathom why Pascal was nominated in this particular category. Was he good? Yes, he was great. But he was also killed before the end of the second episode, which in terms of screen time puts him somewhere between a supporting actor and a guest star. Is it too late to swap him with Thanos?
