The central attraction is a relic casket of Lord Buddha, which is enshrined on the first floor of the memorial. The relic was unearthed during excavations conducted between 1958 and 1962.
This is arguably the first time in India's history that a stupa has been constructed entirely of stone, without using cement, bricks, or concrete. Located in Vaishali district, the stupa stands at a height of 33.10 metres with an internal diameter of 37.80 metres and an outer diameter of 49.80 metres, making it nearly twice the height of the world-famous Sanchi Stupa.
The structure comprises 42,373 sandstone blocks sourced from Banshi Paharpur in Rajasthan, meticulously fitted using the tongue-and-groove technique without any cement or adhesive. Built with modern earthquake-resistant technology, the stupa is designed to endure for thousands of years.
Surrounding the stupa are lily ponds, landscaped gardens and intricate sculptures. A grand entrance archway modelled on the Sanchi gateway showcases the zenith of Buddhist architecture.
Thirty-two skylights have been incorporated to allow a constant flow of light and air within the structure.
The complex also features a meditation centre, visitor centre, museum block, library, amphitheatre, cafeteria, a 500-kilowatt solar power plant, ample parking and other visitor facilities. A statue of Lord Buddha, crafted by artisans from Odisha, is expected to become a special identity of the site, the official added.

IndiGo Airlines To Operate From New Terminal Building Of Tuticorin Airport From August 3
Last Updated: In a post on social media X, the airlines appealed to all passengers to update their contact details in order to receive timely notifications and monitor their flight status. Indigo Airlines on Saturday announced operations for all its flights to and from Tuticorin from the New Terminal building of the Tuticorin airport from August 3. In a post on social media X, the airlines appealed to all passengers to update their contact details in order to receive timely notifications and monitor their flight status for a well-prepared journey. 'Travel Advisory: Tuticorin Terminal Update Effective 03 August 2025, all IndiGo flights to/from Tuticorin (TCR) will operate from the New Terminal Building, offering a refreshed and enhanced airport experience for our customers. 'We encourage you to update your contact details to receive timely notifications and to monitor your flight status for a smooth and well-prepared journey. Thank you for choosing to fly with us," the post read. A day earlier, InterGlobe Aviation Limited, operating the airlines, announced a consolidated net profit of Rs 2,176 crore during the first quarter of 2025-26, despite a turbulent operating environment influenced by geopolitical tensions, airspace restrictions, and a tragic aviation accident in Ahmedabad. The carrier registered about 12 per cent year-on-year growth in passenger volumes, carrying 3.1 crore passengers during the April-June 2025 quarter, showcasing resilient demand even as yields declined by 5 per cent to Rs 4.98 per km and load factor dipped by 2.1 points to 84.6 per cent. Revenue from operations rose 4.7 per cent to Rs 20,496 crore. However, the airline's profit after tax dropped 20.2 per cent from Rs 2,729 crore in Q1 2024-25. Pieter Elbers, CEO, said, 'The June quarter was shaped by significant external challenges that created headwinds for the entire aviation sector. Despite these industry-wide disruptions, we reported a net profit of Rs 21,763 million with a net profit margin of around 11 per cent for the quarter ended June 2025." 'While the revenue environment saw moderation, demand for air travel held strong as we served more than 31 million passengers during the quarter, reflecting a growth of around 12 per cent on a year-over-year basis," Elbers added. EU entry fee nearly triples to €20 for foreign visitors ahead of ETIAS launch
In a major development affecting millions of travelers worldwide, the European Union has announced a sharp increase in its forthcoming European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) entry fee. The new fee for visa-exempt travelers visiting the Schengen area will surge from €7 (about $8) to €20 (about $23), nearly tripling the cost, before the program's official launch scheduled for late 2026. What Is ETIAS and why the hike? ETIAS is designed to pre-screen visitors from around 60 visa-exempt countries—including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, and others—before they enter 30 EU and Schengen countries for short stays (up to 90 days within a 180-day period). While not a visa, ETIAS is mandatory for eligible travelers, who must apply online, entering key personal and passport data. The EU states this move bolsters border security, modernizes infrastructure, and brings costs in line with other systems like the U.S. ESTA ($21) and the UK ETA (£10-£16). The ETIAS will be valid for three years or until the passport expires, whichever is sooner, and most applications are expected to be approved within minutes. Who pays and who doesn't Affected: All non-EU travelers from visa-free countries, including Americans, Britons, Canadians, Japanese, Indian passport holders and many more. Exempt: Children under 18, seniors over 70, and certain family members of EU residents. Non-EU nationals with EU free movement rights are also exempt. A typical family of four visiting from the U.S. will now pay €80, up from €28 under the original fee structure. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Average Cost To Rent A Private Jet May Surprise You (View Prices) Private Jet I Search Ads Learn More Undo Transition/Grace period after ETIAS launch? The ETIAS is scheduled to launch in late 2026. To ensure a smooth rollout and minimize disruption for both travelers and transportation companies, the EU has announced a transition period after ETIAS formally launches. For the first six months, obtaining ETIAS authorization will be encouraged but not strictly enforced; travelers will be informed of the new requirement, but airlines and carriers will not face penalties for boarding non-ETIAS passengers during this initial "grace" phase. In the following months, enforcement will ramp up as border authorities and transport operators begin checking more rigorously for ETIAS-compliant travelers. Within a year of launch, holding an approved ETIAS will become fully mandatory for all eligible visitors before departure, with carriers subject to fines if they transport non-compliant passengers and the possibility of entry being denied at the border. This staged approach aims to give both travelers and operators time to adapt, while reducing confusion and technical bottlenecks during the system's early days. Timeline and response The proposal faces a two-month review by the European Council and European Parliament. Europe's travel and tourism sector has raised concerns over the proportionality and timing of the hike, especially amid ongoing challenges like inflation and geopolitical instability. There are calls for transparency and evidence that the tripling of the fee is necessary for program sustainability, with some urging a re-examination of alternative pricing models. Live Events
