Sister Hong takes over social media: Internet cross-dresses as China's ‘Red Uncle' who secretly filmed explicit videos with 1000 men

Time of India5 days ago
The internet rarely takes things seriously, and in yet another bizarre trend sweeping social media, users are now cross-dressing as 'Sister Hong,' aka China's infamous 'Red Uncle.' Yep, that "Red Old Man" who went viral for reportedly disguising himself as a woman to engage in intimate encounters with over 1,000 individuals, allegedly sharing videos of these encounters online.
So, who is Red Uncle, aka Sister Hong, and why has he suddenly become an internet sensation?
Earlier this month, a middle-aged Chinese man sparked global outrage after it was revealed he had allegedly cross-dressed as a woman to lure hundreds of unsuspecting men into intimate encounters, many of which were secretly filmed and shared online.
The bizarre case first gained traction on Chinese social media platform Weibo, where users claimed the man, reportedly in his 60s, had filmed sexual encounters with as many as 1,691 men, most of them heterosexual, at his home. Alongside widespread concerns about HIV transmission and marital infidelity, the videos reportedly racked up millions of views online, turning the scandal into one of the most viral and disturbing internet stories in China this year.
The man, nicknamed 'Sister Hong' or 'Red Uncle' by netizens, was later arrested by police in Nanjing's Jiangning district. Authorities confirmed that a cross-dressing man surnamed Jiao had been taken into custody on suspicion of spreading obscene material. However, police pushed back against several viral claims, clarifying that Jiao was 38 years old, not 60, and denying reports that he had intimate encounters with over a thousand men, though they did not offer a specific number.
Despite official corrections, the internet frenzy hasn't slowed down, with users continuing to parody the 'Red Uncle' figure across platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
Internet starts dressing up as China's Red Uncle, and it's as weird as it sounds
The internet is now cross-dressing as Red Uncle—aka Sister Hong—turning one of China's most bizarre scandals into a full-blown meme. While Sister Hong allegedly had hundreds of victims, he stuck to one now-iconic outfit: a black round-neck jumper, pleated bronze and brown skirts, shiny black bellies, and a wig with bangs glossier than a K-pop photocard. That fit has officially become the internet's new obsession, and don't be surprised if this Halloween, Sister Hong is everywhere.
As for the makeup? He kept it low-effort but unmistakable: a ghostly layer of the whitest foundation possible and bright red lips that sealed the look.
Several viral clips of Sister Hong doing a little dance have also been making the rounds—in them, the 38-year-old strikes poses that feel more C-pop (if not K-pop) coded, all part of his bizarre strategy to lure in 'customers.'
Now, the internet is fully leaning in, recreating the viral look and turning it into a meme. From living rooms to grocery stores, markets, and even airport terminals, people are dressing up as Sister Hong and taking the bizarre trend to the streets. Check out several examples below:
While Sister Hong continues to dominate social media, it's worth noting that this is a deeply bizarre and troubling scandal. Videos allegedly featuring men involved with him have also surfaced online, raising serious concerns about consent and the privacy of those individuals.

Girl With HIV Raped, Forced To Abort At Maharashtra Children's Home

Latur: An HIV-infected girl has alleged that she was raped for two years at a children's shelter in Maharashtra's Latur and was forced to undergo an abortion. In her police complaint, the 16-year-old said that she was raped by an employee four times between July 13, 2023 and July 23 this year at Sevalay, a shelter home for HIV-infected children. She was taken to a hospital after she fell ill, where tests revealed that she was four months pregnant. The accused then got a doctor who performed an abortion procedure without her consent, the news agency PTI reported, citing an official. "She was also threatened not to disclose the ordeal to anyone," the official said. The girl then wrote a letter to officials and dropped it into a complaint box. The institution's management, however, did not help her and tore up the letter, the official said. Sevalay's founder, Ravi Bapatle, superintendent, Rachna Bapatle, and employees Amit Mahamuni and Pooja Waghmare are among those arrested. Sevalay, whose tagline is a "happy home of children", houses 23 boys and seven girls, all of whom are HIV infected, according to its website. All the workers in the institution work for free, the website said.

Aniruddhacharya Apologises For Saying ‘Unmarried Women Have Loose Character'

A video shows Swami Aniruddhacharya saying that 25-year-old unmarried women have loose character. He also suggested that girls should be married at the age of 14. A video of spiritual speaker Swami Aniruddhacharya has sparked outrage, especially among women, over his alleged derogatory comments towards 25-year-old women. The remarks, reportedly made during a religious event in Vrindavan's Gauri Gopal Ashram, have led to protests and sharp criticism from many groups. The clip, which is being widely circulated online, features while speaking at the event. He reportedly said, 'Ab ladki late hai 25 saal ki. Ab 25 saal ki ladki chaar jagah mu maar chuki hoti hai. Sab nahi par bahut. Aur wo 25 saal ki jab aati hai toh puri jawan hoke aati hai. Jab jawan hoke aayegi toh swabhavik hai ki uski jawani kahi fisal jaegi (Now girls are marrying at the age of 25. By then, many, not all, have already been with multiple men. When a girl comes at 25, she is fully grown. Naturally, her youth may slip away somewhere)." He also referred to the Sonam Raghuvanshi and Muskan Rastogi cases, saying, 'Jaise ki ek honeymoon manane gayi, par wo kisi aur ke sath reh chuki thi, uske sath chakkar tha. Wo drum wala case purana nahi hua jyada (Like a woman went on her honeymoon, but she had already been with someone else. That case involving the drum is not even old)." He also allegedly said that girls should be married off at the age of 14 so that they can adjust better within the family. After the footage circulated online, widespread anger started, particularly from women and social groups. According to Navbharat Times, the women advocates of the Mathura Bar Association called the remarks anti-constitutional and sexist and submitted a complaint to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP). The advocates also staged a protest at the Collectorate and demanded strict legal action against Aniruddhacharya. Gunjan Sharma, state president of Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Sangharsh Nyas, strongly reacted to the video. As per Navbharat Times, she said that she will kill such an Acharya with her shoe. Meanwhile, Pandit Dinesh Falahari, the main petitioner in the Krishna Janmabhoomi case, also condemned the remarks and stated that such insensitive comments do not suit a person in a spiritual role. Swami Aniruddhacharya Issues An Apology As backlash intensified, Aniruddhacharya released a video apology through his official Instagram account. In it, he claimed that the viral video had been edited to create a misleading narrative. He said only a portion of his speech was circulated, while the rest, which offered clarification, was removed. In his statement, he said, 'Even if my incomplete words have hurt anyone, I apologise. Whether it is a man or a woman, both should be character-oriented. My comments were directed at some individuals, not the entire society." He reiterated that this clarification was edited out of the circulating video. When asked about the authenticity of the video, Aniruddhacharya suggested the possibility of AI manipulation. He said, 'Nowadays, it is the era of AI. Anyone can present my words however they like, using AI, and the world will think it is the truth." Despite the apology, protests from various women's and social organisations continue. ‘Precursor to assassination': Gaza reporter Anas Al-Sharif on Israeli threats; CPJ sounds alarm over journalist safety

Anas Al-Sharif, a news reporter in Gaza, is allegedly facing a direct threat from Israel to his life after continued online attacks by a spokesperson of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). 'A precursor to my assassination' is how the 28-year-old Palestinian journalist has described it. Palestinian journalist Anas Al-Sharif, 28, has lost some of his family to IDF strikes; and has continued to report from the ground in Gaza.(Instagram/@anasjamal44) Al Jazeera, the Qatar-based news outlet for which he works, and the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) have expressed immediate alarm over the threats by IDF Arabic-language spokesperson Avichay Adraee, who accuses Al-Sharif of being a terrorist. 'Avichay Adraee's campaign is not only a media threat or an image destruction; it is a real-life threat,' Al-Sharif was quoted as saying by the CPJ. Some members of his extended family have been killed in Israeli airstrikes. 'All of this is happening because my coverage of the crimes of the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip harms them and damages their image in the world," Al-Sharif said of Israel, whom he accused of wanting to 'morally assassinate" him. The IDF's Arabic spokesperson, Avichay Adraee has alleged that Al-Sharif is a Hamas member, particularly since the journalist cried on air this month while reporting on starvation in Gaza. In videos on July 23 and 24 — around the time Israel and the US withdrew their representatives from truce talks with Hamas — IDF spokesperson Adraee said the reporting on starving Palestinians was 'a fabricated drama starring Anas Al-Sharif, who sheds crocodile tears". In earlier videos the same month, Adraee called Al Sharif's and the channel's work 'intellectual terrorism". He was responding to a post by Al-Sharif on his X account that said: 'As a citizen of Gaza, I support a ceasefire by any means now. We are not living; we are just trying to survive.' Also read | Immigration 'killing' Europe, says Donald Trump CPJ regional director Sara Qudah said the latest accusations by the IDF 'represent an effort to manufacture consent to kill Al-Sharif'. She called on the international community to protect him. Al Jazeera, in a statement on Friday, said it 'denounces these relentless efforts, which have consistently incited against its staff since the beginning of its coverage of the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza'. The IDF has reportedly stuck by Adraee's stance in his latest video of July 24, in which he accused Al-Sharif of being a member of Al-Qassam, the military wing of Hamas. Global news organisations such as the BBC, AFP, AP and Reuters earlier this week issued a joint statement about being 'desperately concerned' for journalists in Gaza amid warnings of mass starvation. 'IDF has murdered journalists before' While foreign journalists are not allowed free access to Gaza for months now, the CPJ says Israel has deliberately killed local sources of information and reporting. It mentioned at least four Al Jazeera staff — Hamza Al Dahdouh, Ismail Al Ghoul, Rami Al Refee, and Hossam Shabat — as cases of murder by the IDF. Israel, meanwhile, is facing increasing global condemnation over its actions in Gaza, which had started as a response to the October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas that killed around 1,200 people in Israel. The war since is reported to have claimed over 50,000 Palestinian lives. Starvation in Gaza prompts UN meet Mass starvation at least since early this year is reported to have claimed over 110 lives so far – one of the reasons why a UN conference is now scheduled for July 28-30 in New York to possibly call for peace and an eventual two-state solution. Israel and its largest backer, the US, are not attending the meet, which is being co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France. They have also called back their representatives from talks for a ceasefire with Hamas, saying the group was making unreasonable demands about Israeli military withdrawal from Gaza.
