KPF members demand long-overdue payouts, say promises unfulfilled

KUALA LUMPUR : Koperasi Permodalan Felda Bhd (KPF) is under fire for failing to settle share sale payments to its members, delayed for over 20 months.
Rusnizam Mahat, spokesman for the KPF members' action committee, claimed that the majority of members had yet to receive their payments despite submitting their applications to redeem their shares months ago.
According to him, many Felda settlers had invested hundreds of thousands of ringgit each in the cooperative.
'There are members who are ill and have yet to receive full payments. Some are preparing to perform the haj and are still waiting for their funds, despite submitting all of the necessary documents.
'Even more heartbreaking, some members passed away without receiving their dues. At this point, we feel like beggars, forced to plead for what is rightfully ours,' he told a press conference after lodging a police report at the Tun Razak police station here.
The committee is urging the authorities to take action.
Rusnizam said although assurances – including by KPF's management, the rural and regional development ministry, and Felda chairman Ahmad Shabery Cheek – were previously given that payments would be resolved within nine months, these promises had not been kept.
He said the ongoing delays raised serious concerns about the transparency, integrity, and accountability of KPF's management.
'The longer this drags on, the more trust the members lose in the cooperative, especially given the consistently low dividends declared each year,' he said, adding that KPF currently has more than 9,000 members.
The committee has also made several demands, including for an independent audit of KPF's finances and cash flow, a clear and transparent payment schedule for all members, and stricter oversight by the Malaysia Co-operative Societies Commission (SKM).
'If no concrete solution is offered soon, we will not hesitate to mobilise more members to escalate the matter. This includes filing a formal complaint with SKM, having the issue raised in Parliament, organising a large-scale picket involving thousands of affected members, and pursuing legal action,' he said.
Former Felda employee Syed Alwi Syed Shariff, 68, from Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, expressed his frustration and said the proceeds from his shares were meant for his retirement.
Hasmah Ahmad, 70, from Jengka, Pahang, shared her struggle as a single mother of a disabled child. She said the failure to receive the promised payment had left her in an even more difficult situation.
'I desperately need the funds. At 70, I can no longer work. That money (from the share sale) is all I have to depend on,' she said.
In July last year, Malaysiakini reported that KPF members who had not received their share sale proceeds since 2023 would begin receiving payments within six to nine months.
This assurance came after KPF liquidated more than RM200 million worth of its assets, according to Shabery.

FGV delisting process to begin on Aug 28, says Anwar

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at the 3D Mega Carnival for rural entrepreneurs and Felda settlers in Kuala Lumpur today. (Bernama pic) KUALA LUMPUR : Felda can begin to independently determine the direction of FGV Holdings Bhd after the company's delisting from Bursa Malaysia, which will begin on Aug 28, said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. He said Felda, its cooperative and settlers, could then fully focus on the agency's original mission of safeguarding the rights, returns, and interests of the settlers. 'We can proceed with the delisting starting Aug 28. This means Felda is no longer bound. It can decide its own direction and provide assurances to the Felda Cooperative so that the benefits and interests of the settlers remain the top priority,' he said at an event here today. Anwar said he and Felda chairman Ahmad Shabery Cheek and colleagues would ensure Felda receives clear guidance from the government to make sure FGV returns to Felda's original mission. FGV informed Bursa Malaysia on Tuesday that Felda had acquired 91.73% of the company's total issued shares. FGV's shares are expected to be suspended from trading five market days after the offer for all remaining shares closes on Aug 15.

Settlers to benefit from Felda's majority stake in FGV, says Zahid

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia on July 29, FGV announced that Felda has acquired 91.73% of its total issued shares. KUALA LUMPUR : The Federal Land Development Authority's (Felda) acquisition of a majority stake in FGV Holdings Bhd (FGV) will pave the way for full ownership and restructuring of the company, and Felda settlers will stand to benefit from the profits, says deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Speaking to reporters after attending the Felda settlers' appreciation ceremony here today, he noted that the Pahang and Sabah governments have also become shareholders in FGV following the company's delisting from Bursa Malaysia. He said the full acquisition process will be finalised by Bursa Malaysia, and the profits thereof will be channelled to the settlers. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia on July 29, FGV announced that Felda has acquired 91.73% of its total issued shares. The offer of RM1.30 per share 'will remain open' until 5pm on Aug 15. Felda urged shareholders who have not accepted the offer to do so before the deadline. FGV's shares are expected to be suspended from trading five market days after the offer closes.

RM100,000 for each Felda village for project of their choice

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim visits a stall at the 2025 Mega 3D Carnival. (Bernama pic) KUALA LUMPUR : Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has announced an allocation of RM100,000 for each village under the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) to implement development projects of their choice. He said the approach of allowing villagers to choose their preferred projects is in line with the government's aspiration, which emphasises consultation and community empowerment. 'I have prepared the allocation, with each Felda village receiving RM100,000 to decide which project they want to implement. 'This is not Felda management deciding what project to undertake. Want to buy a tractor? Build a fish pond? Purchase a drone? You decide what you want; I'm providing RM100,000 for each village,' he said when launching the 2025 Mega 3D Carnival at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre here today. Also present were deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, communications minister Fahmi Fadzil and Felda chairman Ahmad Shabery Cheek.
