RTÉ presenter Katie Hannon hot favourite to replace Joe Duffy on Liveline
Regular Liveline fill-in Katie is the bookmaker's favourite to replace Joe ahead of Ray D'Arcy, Claire Byrne and Sean Moncrieff from Newstalk.
Katie herself hasn't commented either way on whether she is interested in the Liveline job. She is said to be waiting out of courtesy until Joe has left the role.
On Saturday, legendary RTÉ presenter Derek Mooney, who filled in on Liveline in the past, said that whoever sits in the hot seat after Duffy will face a major challenge emerging from his formidable shadow.
'Joe really made Liveline his own and anyone who is going to follow him has got to be themselves, because if you even sound a little bit like Joe Duffy you are going to get hammered,' Derek says.
Although he is not in the running himself to take over from veteran broadcaster Duffy (69), Mooney says he wouldn't be interested if he was offered it because it's an onerous role.
'I don't think I would like to do it even if I was asked,' says Derek, whose Mooney Goes Wild show is currently celebrating 30 years on air.
'Liveline is very heavy. I'd rather be doing nature and live entertainment. I just think Liveline takes too much out of the person presenting it. It's like being in the confessional and you are listening to people telling you their deepest, darkest thoughts.
'You have the headphones on and all of that negative news is coming into your head and you can't get away from it. I wouldn't like that because 90 per cent of it is negative.
'They are phoning Joe as a last resort mostly, let's be honest. They've tried this, that and the other and Joe is going to sort it. I think he will be a super hard act to follow and it takes a certain type of person to do it.

'It's different in a magazine programme where you are bringing on interesting guests the whole time. With Liveline you are bringing on real people with real stories and usually they are really troubled.
'With his skill, Joe is very much involved in the running of the programme and so up to date on current affairs and social issues. I think he is just brilliant
'There is light and shade in a magazine programme and to his credit Joe also brought that to Liveline.'
Mooney had the experience of filling in on Liveline for a month one summer.
'The time I did it was great experience because who wouldn't jump at the opportunity to fill in for Joe Duffy,' he says.
'If you want to start making a career, to fill in on the biggest show on radio after Gay Byrne left the station was massive.
'I remember the first interview I did on Liveline was with a guy called Brian O'Driscoll, who had been hired to drive the then British Ambassador Christopher Ewart-Biggs and their car was blown up in Dublin by an IRA bomb.
'Ewart-Biggs and his 26-year-old secretary Judith Cooke were killed. Brian was injured but survived. We did the entire Liveline with Brian and listeners contributing.'
As a radio producer, Derek also produced one of Marian Finucane's last Liveline programmes.
'I had a troupe of male strippers called The Chain Gang on because, of course, they were causing outrage around the country at the time,' Derek laughs.
'Listeners were up in arms about them. They were asked 'how far would they go?' 'The whole way.' It was pure nonsense and Marian loved it. Marian had a sense of devilment about her.'
Derek jokes that even if he put his name in the RTÉ hat to take over from Joe Duffy on Liveline, he probably wouldn't be considered for the role.
'When I was asked if I had put my hat in the ring for the Late Late Show after Ryan Tubridy left I said, 'I threw my hat in and it was thrown out several times',' he adds.

Kayleigh Trappe says doing Dancing with the Stars helped her 'battle her demons'
Social media star Kayleigh Trappe has said taking part in RTÉ's Dancing With The Stars helped her "battle her demons" and helped her mental health. The Monaghan native previously opened up about battling with her confidence when she was younger. On my first day, I was wearing a pink tutu and pink in my hair. "But again, I wear wigs for a living, so I just wanted to embrace every bit of it. I told them to throw me in anything. And I was just glad that I was comfortable with it all. "In the end, it came out of it a lot happier, like up above mentally as well." She admitted when the show ended, she felt like somebody had "died". "Obviously, when the show ended, it was like someone had died. If you need me, I'm in bed crying because it was just such a big part of my life. "But luckily, days like today, getting to judge Friday's Most Stylish is fantastic. "Working at different bits and bobs, television as well. There's plenty of bits like that coming up, so there's no stopping it anyway, hopefully, unless I cancel myself in the morning." Kayleigh was speaking to us ahead of her judging duties at Friday's Most Stylish at the Galway Races, where Clodagh Cosgrove was crowned the winner in a competition sponsored by Athlone Towncentre. The 36-year-old scooped a luxury shop and stay break, winning €2,500 to spend at Athlone Towncentre, as well as a luxury two-night stay in the four-star Sheraton Athlone Hotel and a €500 voucher for Fields jewellery. The Athlone native impressed the judges with her purple dress with orange flowers, which was preloved that she wore to a wedding. Her shoes were from Zara from a few years ago and her handbag was from Depop. She completed her race-going outfit with a purple head piece that she got from Depop that only arrived on Friday morning. There's something for everybody. I wouldn't have a breeze about betting but I love the style element of it." Katie Taylor's father Pete confirms her relationship status after reconciliation
Pete Taylor has confirmed that his daughter Katie is now married. It follows speculation that the boxing superstar had been wed, having been photographed wearing a ring on her left hand in the build-up to her trilogy win over Amanda Serrano last month. "Ever since the fight there with Katie, people are seeing the two of us back together, even some of the s*** you hear about that," Pete told James English on his podcast 'Anything Goes'. "I was reading somewhere that Katie Taylor never got married because of her father, he wouldn't let married, you know, and I'm thinking, 'where are you getting this s*** from?'". Taylor senior also opened up to English about the family rift that saw Katie remove him from her coaching team ahead of the Rio Olympics in 2016 - and after the high of winning gold at London 2012 "I split with Katie's ma two years, maybe a year after the Olympics," Taylor said. "Katie's really into her faith as well and I just remember Katie coming down to the boxing club and she says, 'I just don't want you in the corner, you and ma are not together'. "I'm married now to Karen, and Karen's the same age as Katie and everybody was saying Pete's turned around for Katie's best friend, but they didn't even know each other. For me it's an insult, it sounds like 'Katie's been best friends with this girl since her childhood, you've bleedin' groomed her'. But she didn't know her, but that grows legs then. Just rumours and rumours and rumours. "She has such morals, she has such faith and thinks that when you're married you should be together for life. It killed me now, but I had to respect it because she did a documentary after and said, 'when I went training it was like I was fighting with only one hand because my da wasn't there'. She knew what the consequences would be, she lost in the Olympics in 2016 in Rio." Pete explained that it was a tough time and claimed he had been portrayed as a villain by the Irish media. "We weren't really speaking," he said of his relationship with Katie around the Rio Games. "It was tough for both of us but that's life. "Because we were always together it was a big thing in the newspapers, you'd think I was the only person who ever split up a marriage and when Katie got beaten I was painted as the villain. It made me a pure villain in Ireland but that's life, they used to make up stories about me on a bad news day. It was tough at the time." He also described the build-up and contests at London 2012 as a very pressurised time. "She's not lost in 17 major competitions or something, and if we silver medal it would have been a disappointment for everybody in Ireland, and Ireland was going through a bad time," he recalled. "There was the financial crash in Ireland and everybody was depressed and I felt the hopes of Ireland were on the shoulders of the two of us. And there's banners all over Dublin saying Katie Taylor, gold medal London, she'll win a gold medal. Jesus, some pressure it was. "It was not enjoyable. The Olympics was not one bit enjoyable - it was just pressure. You know, even after Katie won the goal, for me, it was just relief."
