Prince Harry Just Popped Up in the Last Place I Expected—and He Wasn't Alone

Yahoo11-04-2025
Surprises can be hit or miss. But let's be real—if it's a royal surprise? Count me in. And that's exactly what happened when Prince Harry made an unannounced visit to Ukraine.
According to the BBC, the Duke of Sussex, who spent a decade in the British Army, popped up in Lviv to visit the Superhumans Centre—a medical facility that's been doing life-changing work for those injured in the war with Russia. The clinic offers prosthetics, reconstructive surgery and mental health support, all free of charge, to Ukrainian military personnel.
Harry didn't go solo either—he was joined by members of the Invictus Games Foundation, the charity he launched back in 2014 to support wounded veterans through sports.

The visit comes on the heels of a more complicated chapter for the prince. Just last week, he stepped down as founder and patron of Sentebale, a charity he co-founded in 2006 with Prince Seeiso in honor of their late mothers. In a statement, Harry addressed tensions with the organization's leadership, expressing heartbreak over what he described as 'blatant lies' and voicing hope that a Charity Commission inquiry will help restore the mission they set out to achieve nearly two decades ago.
'From the inception of Sentebale nearly 20 years ago, Prince Seeiso and I have had a clear goal: to support the children and young people in Southern Africa in memory of our mothers. What has transpired over the last week has been heartbreaking to witness, especially when such blatant lies hurt those who have invested decades in this shared goal. No one suffers more than the beneficiaries of Sentebale itself,' he said in a statement, per the BBC.
'On behalf of the former trustees and patrons, we share in the relief that the Charity Commission confirmed they will be conducting a robust inquiry," the statement continued. "We fully expect it will unveil the truth that collectively forced us to resign. We remain hopeful this will allow for the charity to be put in the right hands immediately, for the sake of the communities we serve.'

'Slow Horses meets Broadchurch': The BBC's Lynley reboot starring Daniel Mays is confirmed for autumn release

The BBC has confirmed a release date for their Lynley reboot. The series, which is based on Elizabeth George novels, will air later this year and will see Vikings' Leo Suter star as DI Tommy Lynley. Ted Lasso star Sofia Barclay will play DS Barbara Havers, while Line of Duty's Daniel Mays will portray DCI Brian Nies. As we wait for the series to air, read of for everything you need to know about Lynley, including the full cast list, plot and latest news. Lynley has been confirmed for Autumn 2025. The BBC confirmed the news this week, sharing first look images of Suter and Barclay in character, alongside the caption: "Based on Elizabeth George's best-selling novels, the series will launch this autumn on BBC iPlayer and BBC One." Lynley is a talented detective who doesn't fit in because of his upper-class background. He works with Sergeant Havers, a smart and detail-focused officer from a working-class family. Together, they make a strong team despite their differences. The official synopsis reads: "With seemingly nothing in common and against all odds, the mismatched duo of Lynley and Havers become a formidable team, bonded by their desire to see justice done. "His brain and her spirit - his knowledge and her instincts. It is only through working side by side do they both find where they truly belong." The Inspector Lynley Mysteries previously aired on BBC One from 2001 to 2008, with actor Nathaniel Parker in the titular role. Following news of the reboot, writer Elizabeth George said in a statement: "I'm thrilled to see Thomas Lynley and Barbara Havers come to television again, especially through the participation of the BBC and Britbox and the production expertise of Playground. Watching my characters brought to life on television is a real celebration." Lynley will be available to watch live on BBC One. The episodes will also be available to stream on BBC iPlayer live or at a later date. Lynley is coming to BBC One later this year.

Russian strike on training camp in Ukraine kills 3 troops, injures 18

1 of 2 | Ukrainian firefighters at work in Bilenke on the right bank of the Dnieper River in Zaporizhzhia province on Tuesday, after deadly Russian strikes on a prison in the town killed at least 17 people and injured 42. Photo by Ukrainian State Emergency Service/UPI | License Photo July 30 (UPI) -- At least three Ukrainian soldiers were killed and 18 were injured after a Russian missile strike on a training facility in the north of the country, authorities said. Moscow claimed the casualty toll was ten times as high. The Ukrainian army said it had taken precautions to protect personnel but was not able to completely avoid casualties at the facility -- which it did not name or give a location for. Russia's Defense Ministry, in a post on its official Telegram account, said missiles with cluster and high-explosive warheads struck the 169th training center of the ground forces of the strategic reserve of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Goncharovskoye in Chernihiv province. "According to intelligence, the losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine amounted to about 200 servicemen killed and wounded," the ministry said. The Armed Forces of Ukraine said a military commission had been established to look into the circumstances and reasons for the loss of personnel in Tuesday's attack, as well as an internal investigation by the army ground forces. "If it is established that the actions or inaction of officials led to the death or injury of servicemen, those responsible will be held accountable," the army said in a social media post. "The command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Land Forces are taking additional security measures to preserve the lives and health of servicemen during missile and air strikes by the aggressor on training grounds and training centers." Tuesday's attack came after 15 servicemen were killed and 74 injured in June in separate missile strikes on two training facilities, including the training ground of a mechanized brigade. The first of these, on June 1, prompted Ground Forces Commander Mykhailo Drapatyi to resign in protest over what he said was a lack of respect among commanders for the value of soldiers' lives In May, at least six national guardsmen were killed and 10 were injured in the northeastern province of Sumy when a firing range was targeted and in early March, an unconfirmed number of soldiers were killed and injured in a Russian missile strike on a staging ground in the village of Cherkaske near the eastern city of Dnipro. At the time, Drapatyi blamed bureaucracy, incompetence and outdated procedures and, pledging no cover-up of the true extent of the casualties or how the tragedy occurred, vowed to introduce new safety standards and hold those responsible to account. At least 50 troops were killed and more than 250 injured in September when two Russian missiles struck a military base in the central city of Poltava. Elsewhere, Russia's nightly attacks on Ukraine's cities and towns killed at least seven people and injured 21. All but one of the fatalities were in Kharkiv city and surrounding areas, with Donetsk, Kherson, Sumy and Dnipropetrovsk provinces also coming under attack. Air Force Command said in a social media update that air defenses downed or jammed 51 of 78 attack drones incoming in the north and east of the country.
