Lawmakers to be briefed on Putra Heights explosion
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the decision to hold the special briefing on Monday, open to both government and opposition lawmakers, was made during a pre-council meeting with state assemblymen on Thursday.
'I have also requested the state assembly Speaker to allow the state government to provide an explanation on the matter during the upcoming Selangor state assembly session.
'The state government upholds the principles of responsibility, transparency and accountability, and fully honours the mandate and trust of the people,' Amirudin said in a Facebook post yesterday.
The second meeting of the third session of the 15th Selangor legislative assembly will convene from July 7 to 18, Bernama reported.
On June 30, Selangor police announced that no element of mischief, sabotage or negligence was identified as the cause of the gas pipeline blast.

Bill to increase Sarawak assembly seats set for tabling at July 7 special sitting
KUCHING, July 5 — A Bill to increase the number of members in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly will be tabled during a special sitting on July 7, in response to a sharp rise in voter numbers and changing public expectations. Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar said the surge in voters followed the lowering of the voting age to 18, which has significantly reshaped the state's political and constituency landscape since 2014. 'This, in turn, has raised public expectations and created a new political landscape for leaders and elected representatives. The size of both parliamentary and state constituencies in Sarawak is vast and increasingly challenging to manage,' he said at a press conference here today. He said the proposed legislation, titled Dewan Undangan Negeri (Composition of Membership) Bill 2025, will be tabled by Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah. All three readings of the Bill are scheduled to take place on the same day, he added. Mohamad Asfia noted that the last increase in the assembly's composition was in 2014 and that under Article 113(2) of the Federal Constitution, such changes may be made after a period of eight years. Tun M crowns Anwar 'Father of Invisible FDI' as billions remain out of sight
FORMER prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has dubbed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim the 'Bapa FDI' or 'Father of Foreign Direct Investment', in a biting Facebook post yesterday (July 4). Welcoming Italy's announced RM8.13bil investment, Dr Mahathir quipped, 'Wait for France and Brazil, more billions coming.' He claimed RM680bil in FDI has been declared under Anwar but sarcastically noted that Malaysians 'cannot see it because the factories are invisible'. He added, 'We want more visits to foreign countries so that more invisible FDI will come.' Dr Mahathir concluded that while the wealthy pay less tax, the poor ultimately suffer from these grand but hollow announcements. On taxes, Dr Mahathir teased: 'In the meantime, Mahakaya has to pay tax. Not the Mahamiskin. Somehow indirectly the miskin suffers.' Last week, Anwar announced that Malaysia secured RM8.13bil in potential investments during his three-day official visit to Italy. The deals cover petrochemicals, machinery, electronics, and oil and gas services. Anwar also discussed defence purchases, including maritime patrol aircraft, helicopters, and naval vessels from Italy. He met Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to strengthen ties in energy, renewable sectors, and defence and urged recognition of Malaysia's sustainable palm oil certification. Additionally, he pushed for progress on the Malaysia-EU Free Trade Agreement.
