Modern 5-bed home appears to be a steal as it hits market for £390k… but wait until you see what's in the bedroom

The Sun28-07-2025
A MODERN five-bed property looks to be a bargain family home with a price tag of just £390,000 – but potential buyers may want to check out an upstairs bedroom.
The house in Bradford, West Yorkshire, which has only just gone on the market has been raising eyebrows online after listing images showed the bizarre 'open plan' ensuite in one of the bedrooms.

The home is 'deceptively spacious', and looks set to be the ideal family pad – with plenty of space for kids and entertaining.
But there's a rather odd feature in one of the large upstairs rooms.
The spacious bedroom is entirely open plan, meaning there is no door to the office area – where a desk and chair has been set up – and that lack of privacy even extends to the bathroom.
A toilet and basic can be seen tucked around a corner, with no door concealing the bathroom user while they are doing their business.
Storage for toilet rolls and towels has been built into a wall separating the loo from the shower – which is equally fully in view of the rest of the room.
The strange theme doesn't continue throughout the home, which is thankfully more traditional with a family bathroom appearing to have the usual privacy control by way of a door, as does a smaller WC.
The property, based in the Wyke area of Bradford, is otherwise more typical of a family abode, with a large open plan kitchen/living space, a separate dining room and utility.
Meanwhile the garden boasts a large patio area which the current owners have utilised with a hot tub, and not pictured is a summerhouse currently being used as a bar.
The property is currently on the market with Peter David Properties for £392,000.
Eagle-eyed house hunters have also spotted something odd about this four-bed semi in Oxford.

If that property isn't to your taste then you might be interested in snapping up James Bond author Ian Fleming's seaside home, which was also owned by Noel Coward.

5 Tips to Get on The Property Ladder
Saving for your first property is tough, but it is possible. Here are a few steps for first-time buyers.
1. Cut back on luxuries and start saving
Consistent monthly saving is the best way to accumulate enough money to get on the ladder, for a deposit and purchase fees. To do this, you need to take a look at your monthly outgoings and think about what can be cut out - holidays, new clothes, weekly takeaway.
Using a savings calculator can help you to establish how long you will need to save for a deposit. Based on your income, you can figure out a realistic amount to save each month.
2. Have a realistic property search
Set a budget for the property price you would like to buy, and think realistically about the location and size of your property. While we all may want that house with a view or extra bedroom, can you afford it?
3. Research Help To Buy and Shared Ownership schemes
The government has introduced a few ways to help first-time-buyers get on the property ladder and they're great for those on lower incomes or to buy a property in more expensive areas like London.
4. Consider buying with another person
Investing with somebody else you know is a sure way to get onto the property ladder. You only need to save half the amount you would otherwise, so you can work towards getting your property sooner.
You can invest with a friend, family or partner. Naturally, it is a big step and a huge commitment so be open and honest about what you expect from living together — if you haven't already.
5. Talk to a mortgage broker and get your documents in order
A mortgage broker can tell you exactly how much you can borrow for a mortgage, what you will need to pay monthly and in upfront costs.

Almost three quarters of Gen Zs get meal inspiration from social media – double the number who rely on cookbook

GEN Z are turning their backs on mum's old recipe books and getting their food inspo from TikTok instead – with nearly three in four saying social media decides what's for dinner. A sizzling 72 per cent of 18–27-year-olds now plan their meals based on what they see online, with TikTok leading the charge at 84 per cent, followed closely by Instagram at 75 per cent. That's more than double the number who rely on traditional cookbooks, which are only used by 32 per cent. Even family and friends are taking a back seat, with just 45 per cent turning to real-life chats for food ideas. When it comes to trust, influencers are king, 44 per cent of Gen Z say they're the most reliable source for food content, ahead of celeb chefs at 39 per cent and even cooking channels at 34 per cent. And the influence doesn't stop at inspiration. Around 42 per cent say they've actually bought ingredients after seeing them on social media. Discount codes and affiliate links are key drivers, with many saying it saves them from writing shopping lists, searching online, or even leaving the house. For this generation, convenience is everything. The average Gen Z spends nearly four hours a week watching food-related content online, from viral snack hacks to bizarre creations like pancake cereal and roast dinner wraps. But it's not just for show, 52 per cent say they genuinely enjoy cooking and finding new things to try, while 42 per cent prefer making quality meals at home instead of eating out. A third admit they rarely dine out at all due to time or cost. Social media isn't just filling plates – it's expanding palates too. A massive 63 per cent credit it for getting them to try new dishes and flavours they'd never have touched before. Bubble tea, wraps, cereal made from pancakes – nothing's off the table. The study of 1,000 Gen Z adults, commissioned by Publicis Commerce, reveals a massive shift in how this generation cooks, eats and shops. Steve Ricketts, chief commerce officer at Publicis Media, said the gap between 'seeing and buying' is closing fast – and brands need to catch up. 'This research shows just how central social media has become to how Gen Z think about food, from what they cook to what ends up in their basket,' he said. 'They're discovering recipes through influencers, finding products in real time, and buying them directly on the same platform. For brands, that means the moment of inspiration is also the moment of purchase.' So if you thought TikTok was just for dances and filters, think again – it's what's for dinner. 2

I ditched the UK for Australia & I'd never return – I work less hours for more money & see dolphins on my morning walk

A MAN has revealed that he will likely never return to the UK, after upping sticks and moving to Australia. In February, Lewy and his partner made the bold decision to relocate to Adelaide, after becoming sick of the " miserable weather and negative people". 2 2 The couple describe themselves as "normal people" without much money, said they were able to move to a "stunning" neighbourhood, that "wasn't expensive". Lewy said that it had been their dream for 10 years to live in Aus, and added that his and his partner's life has greatly improved since ditching the British Isles. "It's highly likely that we will never live in the UK again because it cannot offer us the life we've got now", he said in a video posted to his TiKTok channel @lewyp23. Lewy revealed that he is no longer "overworked" and "stressed" and is paid more for his job in Australia than he was in the UK. He added that the cost of living in Adelaide is much cheaper than it was for him back home, and that the people seem so much happier and fulfilled. The TikToker claims that he would have to earn a whopping £150,000 a year to have the same quality of life in the UK as he does in Adelaide on his "average" wage, and added that he wouldn't even move back to the UK if someone gave him £50,000. Lewy now lives just three minutes walks from the beach, and as soon as they finish work, he and his partner take their dog out for sunny seaside walks. He has even spotted pods of dolphins during his beach walks, which he said always leave him in "disbelief". Even in winter, the weather in Adelaide is warm and sunny, meaning that Lewy and his partner can have year round fun, without spending a penny. "You don't realise how much the weather affects you until you move to a nice place", he said. I fled the UK for sunny Dubai - life back home is miserable & no-one has any cash "We're happier, it's just fantastic." Another thing that Lewy loves about his life in Adelaide is the lack of crime. "It's safer her in Australia, you see a lot less nastiness." He added that he and his partner now do lots more on the weekends, and are able to be so much more social, as they are no longer stressed. How easy is it to move abroad? Brexit means British citizens now have to apply for visas to move to countries within the EU. While some countries residency restrictions are easier than others, here's what you need to do at home before moving: Notify HMRC about your upcoming move. Let your local authority know and provide a forwarding address. Contact your mortgage and utility providers and bank before leaving. If you have paid enough UK national insurance contributions, you can qualify for a state pension abroad - contact the International Pension Centre. You can sign up to the Royal Mail's redirection service. If you have outstanding student loans, contact the Student Loans Centre. If you have children, give due notice to childcares and schools. He described the supermarkets, which are packed full of fresh fruit and veg as being "incredible" and said that older people look much more youthful and full of life. Lewy is urging others to follow in his footsteps and ditch the "miserable" UK. He said that anyone under 35 can easily get a working holiday visa, and added that the country is especially looking for tradesmen. He said: "Why are you waiting to get out of that horrible place when you've got this waiting for you? "The people are really lovely and you've got a life waiting for you with way less stress." "You get one go at life, you have to take risks"
