Liverpool copies Trent Alexander-Arnold move with Johnny Heitenga statement

Heitinga, a former Everton defender, has signed a two-year contract with Ajax, ignoring advice from Arne Slot, who had told the 41-year-old to continue his development as coach at Anfield for one more year.
"Liverpool FC can confirm John Heitinga is to depart the club to take up the role of Ajax head coach," a Liverpool statement said. "The 41-year-old leaves the Reds after one season in the backroom team, operating as assistant coach to Arne Slot.

"He now assumes a position in charge of former club Ajax in his native Netherlands. John leaves with our gratitude and appreciation for his role in our 2024-25 Premier League title win."
The Liverpool statement did not include well-wishes for the future, which was also the case when the Reds confirmed Alexander-Arnold's exit.
"Liverpool FC can confirm an offer has been accepted for Trent Alexander-Arnold from Real Madrid for his transfer upon the opening of the June transfer window," a statement published on Friday said.
"The full-back is now set to join the La Liga club ahead of the expiry of his Reds contract this summer.

Liverpool will receive a fee for his services, with the deal to be concluded once the window opens on June 1.

"He now departs Anfield after 354 appearances and 23 goals for the club, as well as lifting eight major honours alongside his teammates, which consist of two Premier League titles, the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup and two League Cups.
"Alexander-Arnold leaves Liverpool FC with the club appreciative and grateful for his contribution to those successes."

Heitinga went against Slot's recommendation in taking the Ajax job, after the Liverpool head coach responded to a question about Ajax's interest in him last week by recommending that he should stay on Merseyside for now.
'If Ajax would be smart, they would consider him. He is ready to take on a job like that,' Slot told reporters last week.
'If John is smart, he would stay one more season.'

Spurs captain Son Heung-min to quit Premier League club
Captain Son Heung-min is to leave Tottenham Hotspur after a decade with the Premier League side, including two years under its former Australian boss Ange Postecoglou. At a media conference in Seoul on Saturday, Son said his decision to leave was the most difficult of his career and the club was supporting him as he looked to move on. Spurs will face Newcastle United in a preseason friendly on Sunday in Seoul in what could the final match of Son's time at Spurs. "Before we start the press conference, I just want to share the information that I have decided to leave this club in this summer," Son said. "Respectfully, this club is helping me to my decisions. So I just wanted to share this information before we start the conference." "I came to North London as a kid, 23 years old, very young age, a young boy came to London who even didn't speak English and leaving this club as a grown man is a very, very proud moment." Son also paid tribute to Tottenham fans. "I just want to say thank you to all of the Spurs fans that gave me so much love and felt like it was my home," he said. "It was one of the toughest decisions I ever made. So I hope the goodbye is always also in a good timing you know. "But I think it's the right time to make this decision. So I hope that everybody understands my decision and hope that everyone respects that." Son said he did not have an answer about his playing future though he plans to play for South Korea at next year's World Cup in North America. Media reports have also suggested MLS outfit Los Angeles FC are among favourites to secure his signature. Son achieved his goal of silverware in May when he helped Spurs to Europa League success with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United. It ended a 17-year trophy drought for the club, though the win failed to save the job of Postecoglou who was promptly replaced by Thomas Frank. In 454 appearances for Tottenham, Son scored 173 goals.

Son Heung-min to leave Tottenham this summer after decade
Tottenham captain Son Heung-min said on Saturday that he intends to leave the club this summer after a decade in north London. The 33-year-old attacker joined the Premier League side from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 and went on to play more than 450 times for Spurs. In May he lifted the Europa League trophy but he had a poor season overall by his high standards and struggled with injury. "Before we start the press conference I wanted to say I have decided to leave the club this summer," the South Korean told reporters in Seoul, where Tottenham are on a pre-season tour. "Respectfully the club is helping me with this decision." Son, who has scored 173 goals for Spurs, did not say where he intends to go next and cut an emotional figure. "It was the most difficult decision I have made in my career. Such amazing memories. It was so hard to make the decision," he said, flanked by new Tottenham boss Thomas Frank. "I need a new environment to push myself. I need a little bit of change -- 10 years is a long time. I came to north London as a kid, 23 years old, such a young age. I leave this club as a grown man, a very proud man." Frank, who joined Spurs from Brentford this summer, paid tribute to the South Korean skipper. "For me, personally, I would have loved to have worked with this fantastic person and player," said the Dane, who took over from the sacked Ange Postecoglou. "He is a true Spurs legend in every aspect, one of the greatest players to play in the Premier League. "It is never easy to find the perfect timing and me coming in from the side, it makes it a bit easier to end on a high." bur-pst/tym
