OGC Nice sign Manchester City centre-back Juma Bah on loan
OGC Nice have confirmed that Juma Bah (19) has joined the Riviera club on loan from Manchester City. Les Aiglons overtook Olympique Lyonnais for the Sierra Leone international, with the possibility of playing in the UEFA Champions League an enticing factor. Franck Haise's Nice qualified for the Champions League third qualifying round courtesy of their fourth-place finish in Ligue 1.
Bah is already accustomed to Ligue 1 football. The 19-year-old centre-back spent the second half of the past season on loan at RC Lens, as part of Manchester City's deal for Artois centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov.

Nice were in the market for a centre-back, considering they need to prepare for life without veteran skipper Dante and the fact that Youssouf Ndayishimiye and Mohamed Abdelmonem are recovering from serious knee injuries. Bah is the second player to join Nice this summer after Gabin Bernardeau.

Chelsea agree deal for Dortmund's Gittens
Jamie Gittens is set to join Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund (LLUIS GENE) Chelsea are set to add England under-21 international winger Jamie Gittens to their forward line after agreeing a deal with Borussia Dortmund, according to reports on Saturday. Sky Sports said an agreement has been reached between the clubs, who are both competing at the Club World Cup in the United States. Advertisement The Blues will reportedly pay up to 65 million euros (£55 million, $76 million) for the 20-year-old, who had been in Chelsea's academy as a youth player. Gittens eventually moved to Manchester City's academy before signing for Dortmund in 2022. He made 107 appearances for the German giants, scoring 17 goals, 12 of which came in the Bundesliga and Champions League last season. Chelsea were in the market to bolster their wide options after refusing the chance to sign Manchester United's Jadon Sancho on a permanent deal after his loan spell at Stamford Bridge. Mykhailo Mudryk also remains provisionally suspended by the English Football Association after failing a drugs test. Advertisement Gittens would be Chelsea's fourth signing of the summer, joining striker Liam Delap, midfielder Dario Essugo and defender Mamadou Sarr. Brazilian rising star Estevao Willian, 18, will also join the Premier League giants after his Club World Cup campaign with Palmeiras. kca/jc

Jamie Gittens will fill a left-wing gap for Chelsea and is one of Europe's most direct dribblers
Had his life and career taken a different turn, Jamie Gittens might have been at Chelsea for more than a decade already. Instead, the 20-year-old winger is returning to a club he first joined at the age of eight with the chance to show supporters what they have been missing. On Saturday, The Athletic reported an agreement in principle between Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund had been reached for the player to join the London club. Advertisement Over a decade ago, Gittens spent time training with Chelsea's academy, but the schoolboy opted to commit to Reading, his hometown team. After moving to Manchester City's academy and then making his senior debut at Dortmund, the England Under-21 international has eventually found his way to Stamford Bridge. The vacancy he is arriving to fill is clear. Mykhailo Mudryk is serving a provisional suspension and facing the prospect of a longer ban after being charged with a violation of the Football Association's anti-doping rules (Mudryk said he 'never knowingly used any banned substances'). Chelsea also opted not to turn Jadon Sancho's loan into a permanent deal. So Enzo Maresca's side are down two right-footed left-wingers and Gittens has the chance to make the position his own after five years in Germany. The appeal of Gittens to Chelsea is clear. Last season, his first as a regular starter, he put in some eye-catching performances in the role Chelsea want him to fill. Despite being predominantly right-footed, Gittens operated mainly on the left for Dortmund, staying wide out of possession before cutting inside onto his preferred foot when on the ball. He showed impressive acceleration, quick feet and the ability to beat a defender on the inside or outside. He also netted eight league goals and registered three assists, thanks mainly to his ability to strike the ball cleanly with little backlift and his knack for manufacturing shooting opportunities in congested spaces. Gittens provided a perfect snapshot of his biggest strengths with his two goals in a 2-0 home win against Eintracht Frankfurt last August. And he did so again less than a month later with two goals in a 3-0 Champions League victory at Club Brugge. There is little doubt that beating defenders one-on-one is Gittens' potential superpower, as data from last season demonstrates. As this graph shows, only Jeremy Doku of Manchester City and Barcelona's Lamine Yamal attempted more take-ons per 90 minutes last season in Europe's 'big five' leagues. He was one of the continent's most effective dribblers, but also helped his side by providing a constant outlet out wide. As shown in the data wheel outlining his style of play, Gittens was rated 70 out of 99 against others in his position for 'progressive receptions' — a metric that rates how often a player receives a 'progressive pass'. The Athletic defines a progressive pass as a completed pass that moves a team at least 10 metres closer to the opposition's goal and the data suggests Gittens helped Dortmund move up the pitch by taking up good positions to receive them. In short, he was effective at helping his side advance up the field, not just with his dribbling but also with his off-the-ball movements. And a look at Gittens' shot map from the Bundesliga last season shows just how ruthless he was in front of goal, outperforming his expected goals (xG, the number of goals he would have been expected to score based on the quality of chances) by 4.4. That overperformance can be viewed in two ways. It might display how cleanly Gittens strikes the ball compared to other players, but statisticians would typically expect a player's goals output to track their xG tally more closely over a longer period. Defensively, Gittens remains raw. His playstyle wheel shows him as an active, front-foot defender but Bundesliga observers have noticed he does occasionally struggle with tracking opposition players. Advertisement An example came in Dortmund's 4-1 defeat at RB Leipzig in April 2024, when he was slow to spot the overlapping run of Dani Olmo and allowed the winger to get into the Dortmund penalty area and receive a pass. Gittens' defensive tenacity was also on display, however, as he raced back and tried to affect Olmo's ability to shoot. Gittens also struggled at the end of last season, when Dortmund changed coaches. His new boss, Niko Kovac, favoured a wing-back system in which Gittens did not find a natural role. However, there is no indication that Chelsea will move to playing three central defenders under Maresca, who usually asks his wide midfielders to stay wide and help create space for more central players. That system should, in theory, suit Gittens' style. For Chelsea, the deal represents success in a pursuit that began in January, when the club first enquired about signing Gittens. A deal could not be agreed then but the arrival of Kovac and Gittens' desire to play in the Premier League have helped get the deal done now. Pedro Neto and Noni Makueke can operate on the left flank, but Maresca prefers both on the right. Tyrique George was promoted from the under-21s midway through last season and might emerge as Gittens' main rival for the role but he remains inexperienced, so is likely to start the new season behind the new arrival. As for Gittens, the move will see him link up again with familiar faces in the shape of Maresca, who briefly crossed paths with the winger as a development coach at Manchester City, as well as Cole Palmer and Liam Delap, who are also graduates of City's academy. The London club will hope that those connections and his close tactical match will make Gittens a success at Stamford Bridge. Data graphics from Thom Harris.

Pogba aims to reboot turbulent career with Monaco move
Former France midfielder Paul Pogba has joined Monaco on a two-year contract in an attempt to relaunch a stellar career derailed by injuries and a doping ban. Monaco confirmed the widely expected transfer on the club website, and in a video posted on X, with the 32-year-old Pogba wearing the club's red-and-white jersey. The former Juventus and Manchester United player will play in the French top flight for the first time. Monaco finished third in Ligue 1 last season and Pogba, who has been without a club since leaving Juventus last year, will get the chance to play Champions League soccer again providing Monaco get through the qualifying stages. Pogba is home 😎Welcome Paul 💪 — AS Monaco EN 🇲🇨 (@AS_Monaco_EN) June 28, 2025 Pogba honed his technique in France at Le Havre's academy but signed with Manchester United at age 16 in 2009. Previously one of the world's top midfielders, Pogba made more headlines in recent years with his off-field problems. Last year, Juventus said it came to "a mutual agreement" with him to cancel his contract despite the 2018 World Cup winner having a ban for doping slashed. The Serie A club never seemed enthusiastic about welcoming him back after his four-year ban for doping was cut to 18 months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Pogba tested positive for testosterone in 2023 and was handed the maximum punishment by Italy's anti-doping court. CAS judges reduced it as they acknowledged a lack of intent and said his positive test was the result of erroneously taking a prescribed supplement. In 2016, Paul became the then most expensive soccer player in history when he returned to United from Juventus for a fee of $A178 million. He has played 91 times for France and scored in the World Cup final when Les Bleus beat Croatia 4-2.
