How to watch the 2025 John Deere Classic: Tee times, streaming info, picks and updated odds

New York Times02-07-2025
Off to the Quad Cities … no, not the train riders, but the drivers and putters. The PGA Tour's annual John Deere Classic starts up on Thursday afternoon. Winners since 2010 include Jordan Spieth, Bryson DeChambeau, Sepp Straka and Davis Thompson, who arrives as the tournament's defending champion after last year's record score. The next name on that list will reveal itself in the days to come.

ESPN+ will have coverage of featured groups and holes. CBS coverage can also be streamed on Paramount+.
Fittingly, Fourth of July action goes down at the Quad Cities. Ben Griffin opens as the field's favorite. The North Carolina product tied for eighth place at the PGA Championship, then won outright at May's Charles Schwab Challenge. He has finished at No. 14 or better in each of his four subsequent outings, and came in fifth at last year's Deere.
Griffin is followed by a cadre of competitive Americans hitting the greens. Fellow Carolinian J.T. Poston has a strong approach shot; he tied for fifth at the Championship. Jake Knapp tied for fourth at the Rocket Classic, and his mix of long drives and precise putts puts him in consideration this weekend. Denny McCarthy has three consecutive top-10 finishes at Deere Run.
The international talent has multiple headliners. South African riser Aldrich Potgieter is coming off his first Tour victory at just 20 years old. Kevin Yu (Chinese Taipei) notched a fourth-place finish at Myrtle Beach in May, and came in third at last month's Canadian Open. Jason Day enters the tourney ranked No. 28 in the world; the Aussie has four top-10 placements thus far.
This weekend's purse exceeds $8 million. Up next is the Scottish Open, set to begin July 10.
The complete list of tee times can be found here.

There's no rocket science involved here. My outright bets are usually based on a couple of models I follow, and I take into account course history and form. I also love betting on golf long shots (usually +2000 or longer range). Here are a couple of guys I think are worth sprinkling pizza money on this week:
Outright winner picks (odds via BetMGM)
Denny McCarthy +2500
Mark Hubbard +5000
Lee Hodges +6600
Emiliano Grillo +6600

Astros' Isaac Paredes will miss the All-Star Game because of a family matter

Updated [hour]:[minute] [AMPM] [timezone], [monthFull] [day], [year] HOUSTON (AP) — Houston Astros third baseman Isaac Paredes has dropped out of next week's All-Star Game to attend to a family matter. Paredes was added to the roster Wednesday after Cleveland's José Ramírez opted out to rest a nagging Achilles tendon injury. Paredes was in the Astros' lineup at designated hitter Sunday for the finale of a series against the Texas Rangers and manager Joe Espada said he wouldn't miss any time after the break because of the issue. 'Oh yeah, he'll be back,' Espada said. 'He just needs to go and spend some time and take care of some family matters, but … he's fine.' It was the second straight season Paredes had been named an All-Star. The 26-year-old is in his first season with the Astros after a trade from the Cubs. He entered Sunday hitting .254 with 19 homers and 49 RBIs. ___ AP MLB:

Jordan Spieth and his wife Annie announce the birth of their third child

A post shared by Jordan Spieth (@jordanspieth) One of golf's favorite families just got a little bigger. Jordan Spieth and his wife, Annie, announced the birth of their third child, Sully, via social media on Sunday. Jordan's Instagram post featured a photo of the newborn with the caption, "We added a new member to the foursome, Sully Spieth! Everyone is doing great." Sully is Jordan and Annie Spieth's second boy. Their firstborn son, Sammy, is three years old, and their daughter, Sophie, is 22 months. The couple got married in Dallas in 2018. Jordan hasn't played in a PGA Tour event since he withdrew from the Travelers Championship in mid-June, citing a neck injury. It was the first withdrawal of his entire career. Prior to that, Spieth had been playing arguably his most consistently good golf in years, making all but two cuts in 16 starts, racking up four top 10s and finishing inside the top 25 at both the Masters and the U.S. Open. Spieth is in the field for next week's Open Championship, which he won in 2017. He heads to Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland hoping to win his fourth career major title. A few good performances down the stretch of the season would boost his chances of being selected to the U.S. Ryder Cup Team for the sixth straight time. As of July 13, he sits at No. 25 in the standings.

(AP Photo/Sue Ogrocki, file) FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Cleveland Browns rookie running back Quinshon Judkins was arrested Saturday night in Florida on a charge of battery and domestic violence. According Broward County arrest records, Judkins was jailed overnight and was awaiting his first court appearance. The charge is described in the arrest report as 'touch or strike/battery/domestic violence.' Advertisement The charge is a misdemeanor. The records do not indicate if Judkins has an attorney who could comment on his behalf. A Browns spokesman said the team is aware of the incident and gathering more information. The 21-year-old Judkins was the 36th overall pick in the April draft after rushing for 1,060 yards and 14 touchdowns at Ohio State last season. The Browns drafted Judkins in the hopes that he could become the team's lead running back after Nick Chubb signed with the Houston Texans. Cleveland also drafted Dylan Sampson in the fourth round. Judkins is the only member of the Browns' seven-player draft class who has not signed his rookie contract. Cleveland's rookies are scheduled to report to training camp on Friday. ___ AP NFL:
