Iconic London nightclub set for one final party this weekend before closing
PRYZM Kingston, which has hosted Stormzy, Rod Stewart and Billie Eilish, is shutting up shop after one last hurrah on July 12.
Londoners and music industry insiders have told Metro of their despair that the 18-year-old hotspot and concert venue is having its swan song after more than 20 years.
The club on Clarence Street closed its disco room at 3.30am on June 28 but will welcome partygoers for one final night in the main room on July 12.
Rob Anderson, who works in the music industry, said PRYZM put Kingston on the map.
He told Metro: 'PRYZM Kingston has massively boosted the area when it comes to the music industry. It's hosted everyone from Billie Eilish and Tate McRae to Shania Twain and Stormzy.'
For many, though, PRYZM was the moment they first experienced the joys of sipping a vodka Red Bull and partying till the early hours.
Nick Wilson, 27, told Metro he used to go as a fresh 18-year-old after school.
'With the Wetherspoons opposite, it was the perfect conveyor belt for an average night out,' he added.
'I think it's definitely a coming-of-age club for the locals at least.
'Lots of people mention it when I talk about Kingston. People travel from the suburbs just to go.'
The nightclub's owner, Neos, announced earlier this year that it had submitted plans to convert the Grade II-listed building into two new venues.
One will be a 'party bar' called Bonnie Rogues on the ground floor, and a new nightclub called Circuit on the first and second.
For Metro lifestyle reporter Jessica Hamilton, it was PRYZM's carpeted and 'sticky' floor which she'll reminisce about most even when a new club comes along.
She recalled her visit there for a Sophie Ellis Bextor concert: 'It's a shame it's shutting down because they do so many events there
'It had a really good atmosphere for the gig and was very intimate though.'
Club regulars are still waiting to see what happens to the nightlife hotspot next before passing judgment.

Tickets for the night – called 'The Final Dance' – have sold out, but organisers have one last giveaway of nine more tickets for people who missed out.
Nightclub franchise PRYZM was owned by Rekom UK before it went bust in January 2024.
Before then, the club had been called Oceana, until being rebranded as a PRYZM in 2014.
This marked the end for many of its venues across the country, and the Kingston club shut last year.
But then it reopened after being sold to Neos Hospitality, who pledged a £3 million refurbishment.
So while PRYZM is closing for good, the partying will continue when the new venues, called Bonnie Rogues and Circuit, open after the make over.
Russell Quelch, the CEO of Neos, said they want the site to continue being a night out favourite for Londoners.
He added: 'Thousands of people have made memories that will last them a lifetime, from over 20 years of amazing nights out at PRYZM and Oceana before it.
'The closure is the end of a long running chapter for the Kingston club scene, but it's time to look to the future and reimagine what this site could hold, in a fresh new look at nightlife for next generation of UK party lovers.'

'Murderous' horror Netflix series soars up chart days before season 2 launches

The first part of Wednesday season 2 debuts next week and it seems mega-fans of the plait-wearing nihilist are already getting ready to dive back into the world of Nevermore Academy. It was revealed she was descended from a pilgrim who had made it their mission to eradicate Outcasts from the town of Jericho. Senior TV Reporter Rebecca Cook shares her take… Jenna Ortega had quite the task stepping into Christina Ricci's shoes as misery-worshipping Wednesday. In the years since the 90s films, her hard-relate lines, delivered with defining deadpan, had become talismans for the Tumblr generation. (Why did she turn out in her usual get-up for Halloween? 'I'm a homicidal maniac, they look just like everyone else.') Netflix's TV adaption on said affectless tween touted not only the gothic stylings of Tim Burton on board to direct, but Ricci herself back as a teacher at Nevermore. So did the first season reach the creepy intensity of The Nightmare Before Christmas or Edward Scissorhands? Not quite. The show focused a bit much on the romantics and pulled its punches on the fear factor – it probably shouldn't strictly be classified as a horror, the scares are so thin on the ground – but it was still murderously good fun for the whole family. And given that Netflix is trying to scoop up the broadest audience possible, that's probably exactly what they wanted, with the numbers ot prove it paid off. Not everyone got away unscathed though, as Principle Weems (Gwendoline Christie) met an untimely demise at Laurel's hands, all because she had the ability to shape-shift and had tricked the not-so-normie-after-all teacher into revealing all. 'I feel like Weems would never be defeated by something as commonplace as death,' Christie told Netflix's Tudum. 'So really what I was playing in that moment was that Weems was confounded by the situation.' ‘I was on Amazon Prime's biggest surprise hit - now you can watch me in a hotel'
You may remember Harriet Kemsley from Amazon Prime Video's side-splitting comedy Last One Laughing. (Yes, she shot pingpong balls from her undercarriage into an audience, which included the legendary Bob Mortimer.) 'I've had ping pong yelled at me on the street a lot more than before the show,' Harriet laughs, while chatting to Metro ahead of her short Edinburgh Fringe run at Hotel Indigo. While Harriet has been on the stand-up comedy circuit for over a decade, laying her most shameful experiences on stage for laughs, through Last One Laughing, she's found mainstream success. A roaring success, 6.1million people tuned into Last One Laughing, making it one of Amazon's most-watched original shows ever. With so many eyes now on her, is Harriet more cautious about opening up on stage? She thinks carefully about her response. 'Just as long as the joke is always on me is what I want, rather than on the people I love, I guess,' she says. 'I can't help sharing things,' Harriet explains. 'Sometimes I'm saying things and I'm not always thinking, and then I read them in print and I think, 'Oh, that isn't how I meant that at all.'' But at this year's Fringe, Harriet has no option but to throw caution to the wind. Going back to her on-stage roots, Harriet will be entertaining audiences from a hotel bedroom (not in that way, obviously). 'Yes, there will be security,' Harriet confirms, when I suggest the show's premise may attract some creeps in the 15-person audience. Explaining the concept while fizzing with laughter, Harriet says: 'I will be on the bed… Talking to them.. I don't think I'm going to have a microphone, because I think that would be mad. 'I guess it's quite like… John and Yoko, kind of Paula Yates style…' she says, apparently unsure of what the hell is going on herself. But it will be fun, and something a bit different. That's the whole point of the Fringe… right? 'I think that's what the Fringe should be about,' Harriet says, before explaining: 'The Fringe is very stressful because it can make or break people.' The worst part of the Edinburgh Fringe for Harriet – and its most widely-known problem – is the cost for performers to take a show there. Lucky ones get a room for £1,000 for the month. Others are cramped into apartments with way too many people than is acceptable. A few years ago, The Chase star Jenny Ryan told Metro of a high-profile comedian who was sleeping on the floor. Add that to the cost of putting on a show, and prices snowball into thousands. 'It used to be more of a given that you do it every year, and that's no longer the case,' Harriet says. 'It used to be the place to go and experiment and have fun and now the stakes are too high to do that. The show has to be perfect, and every night has to be perfect.' If it isn't perfect, then the financial implications of a bad review or just no bums on seats are too high. Once you're there, though, Harriet raves about the festival for being an invaluable 'training ground' for comedy, where you get to do what you love every night and hone the craft. 'The Fringe really needs to try and support the artists, because it's getting harder and harder for new acts to be able to afford it,' she adds. Both have recently come out of serious long-term relationships, as Harriet and fellow comedian Bobby Mair divorced in 2024 after seven years of marriage. For Harriet, the hardest part of emerging onto the dating scene after divorce was finding her identity again as a single woman. More Trending 'I felt like such a prude because my identity was that I'd suddenly become a mother and I was married, and I felt like a different person to who I was when I was last single,' she explains. 'But I've realised I can have a bit more fun,' Harriet says. 'I remembered who I was last time I was single, and also I'm dating with self esteem this time. 'I didn't have that in my early 20s. Suspended EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick enjoys day out amid slur scandal
EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick has broken his social media silence after being suspended by the BBC for using a slur against disabled people. The 2024 Strictly Come Dancing star is believed to have made the offensive remark while filming for the show in Blackpool last November. Jamie was captured in the iconic Tower Ballroom discussing the people of the Northern seaside destination, using a long outdated and derogatory term, which has been condemned by Blackpool Council's Tory group leader Paul Galley, who branded his words as 'shocking' and 'horrible'. The BBC told Metro: 'This language is entirely unacceptable and in no way reflects the values or standards we hold and expect at the BBC. 'We have robust processes in place for this.' It was later reported by The Sun on Sunday that bosses have put a hold on his portrayal as Jay Brown, with the outcome of his suspension currently unknown. This weekend he returned to Instagram to make his first post in the wake of the scandal. Jamie was seen an Oasis gig at Wembley Stadium alongside co-stars Tony Clay and Natalie Cassidy, who play Callum Highway and Sonia Fowler, as well as Nat's long-term partner Marc Humphreys. In the snaps shared to his story, he can be seen belting out hits performed by the Gallagher brothers, draped in band merchandise. Responding to his actions, Jamie made a public apology in a statement to The Sun: 'I am deeply sorry for any offence and upset my words and actions have caused.
