Is foul play suspected in Eliotte Heinz's death?
The La Crosse Police Department announced in a recent press release that they do not believe foul play was involved in Heinz's death. "The La Crosse Police Department continues to follow-up on information surrounding the death of Eliotte Heinz," the press release reads. "Based on the preliminary autopsy results, we do not believe there was any criminal conduct related to Eliotte's death. Final autopsy results will not be completed for several months."
'This was not the outcome we had hoped for throughout this search. Our thoughts are with Eliotte's family, friends and all those who knew Eliotte. We are grateful for the outpouring of support from so many within the La Crosse community, the State of Wisconsin and nationally to locate Eliotte,' La Crosse Police Chief Shawn Kudron said.
The Viterbo University community shared a statement on social media, saying, 'Viterbo University joins the Heinz family, the La Crosse community, and all who knew and loved Eliotte in mourning her tragic passing. We are heartbroken by this loss and extend our deepest sympathies to her family and friends. We are especially grateful to the La Crosse Police Department for their tireless efforts and to the many community members who showed up with compassion by searching, sharing information, offering prayers, and providing food, water, and comfort during the most difficult of days. Your outpouring of love reflects the very best Viterbo, our La Crosse community, and beyond.'
'Very sweet, quiet girl'
Meanwhile, Heinz's neighbor praised the deceased woman as a kind person. Jonathan Strike, who lives in Heinz's apartment building, told Fox News that she had moved in just a few months ago.
"Very sweet, quiet girl," Strike said. "[She] always said 'Hi' every time she walked by. Ever since she moved in, [she] always made an attempt to be as friendly as she can be, even with my dog jumping all over everybody. It's just heartbreaking."
"She made the neighborhood better," Strike added, noting that Heinz would regularly run through the neighborhood. "If she ever had a bad day, we wouldn't know. She never gave off those vibes. She was always happy, always sweet, even on days when it was hot and humid like today."
Strike said he found out about Heinz's disappearance on social media. "I found out on Facebook before anything," he said. "I'm like, 'No, that can't be her.' Then I saw her parents across the street, and I just broke down. They were trying very hard to hold out hope, and it was a rough few days. I'm just glad she's in a better place now."
It remains unclear how Heinz ended up in the river. The investigation will remain open until final autopsy results are revealed.

Hero bystanders stopped Walmart stabber: Ex-marine Derrick Perry held attacker at gunpoint; watch

Derrick Perry holds attacker at gunpoint in Walmart parking lot (Picture source: X) A stabbing attack at a Walmart store in Traverse City, Michigan, left 11 people injured on Sunday. But what could have been far worse was stopped by a group of bystanders, and one man in particular is being praised across social media, Derrick Perry. Video from the scene, later verified by CNN, shows the suspect being cornered in the parking lot by a group of civilians. One man stands out, pointing a gun directly at the suspect, keeping him frozen in place until police arrived. That man is Perry. While authorities haven't officially named him, Perry's family and locals have identified him in Facebook posts, calling him a 'true hero.' One post read, 'This is Derrick Perry! He is the man who took his gun out and risked his life to save many lives.' A woman added in the comments, 'So proud to be his daughter-in-law. He protected so many.' — GrahamAllen_1 (@GrahamAllen_1) The attacker, identified by police as 42-year-old Bradford James Gille, allegedly began stabbing people near the checkout area. He was reportedly trying to flee when two former Marines, Matt Kolakowski and Perry — intervened. Kolakowski told CNN that he had no weapon but charged at the attacker with a shopping cart, hitting him hard enough to knock him down. Perry, a veteran himself, then drew his licensed weapon and held the man at gunpoint until others tackled him and officers arrived. Eleven victims were taken to Munson Medical Center. Three underwent surgery. Their names and conditions have not been made public.

Trading fraud: Bengaluru-based businessman clicks on Facebook advertisement, loses Rs 89 lakh

Bengaluru: A 50-year-old businessman from Horamavu has reportedly lost Rs 89 lakh in an online trading scam over two months. The victim, Sunil (name changed), lodged a complaint with the East CEN crime police after realising he had fallen prey to fraudsters operating through a fake trading platform. According to his complaint, Sunil came across an advertisement on Facebook two months ago, promoting high returns on stock market investments through an online platform named 'FXROAD @FXRoad_Account_Mngr_bot'. Interested by the promise of quick profits, he clicked on a free registration link and submitted his basic details. Soon after, he received a call from a woman who explained the process and persuaded him to invest $200 (around Rs 17,000). The next day, another person contacted him, urging further investment by assuring daily profits. They showed a small credit of $50 on the portal and claimed that profits would be automatically added. Trusting the process, Sunil continued to invest more money as he was regularly shown fictitious profits on the trading dashboard. Despite mounting doubts, Sunil invested further, including a lump sum of $50,000 after three weeks, hoping to recover his earlier losses. The scammers claimed market fluctuations had caused a loss and delayed withdrawals. They later demanded an additional $300,000 (Rs 2.6 crore), which he refused. When Sunil insisted on retrieving his money, the fraudsters began threatening legal action. Realising he had been conned, he contacted the cyber helpline and filed a complaint with the police. The East CEN crime police are investigating the matter.
