Drake Hogestyn's ‘Days of Our Lives' character killed off 8 months after actor's death
'Days of Our Lives' officially killed off Drake Hogestyn's character, John Black, on Monday.
The emotional episode came eight months after Hogestyn passed away from pancreatic cancer at the age of 70 on September 28, 2024, and it saw Black flatline in a hospital with his wife, Dr. Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall), close by his side.

'You have put up the bravest fight I have ever seen,' Evans told her dying husband in the character's final scene. 'I know you're weary. I know you're suffering. If you need to go, it's okay.'
Black was injured in a lab explosion days before his death as he tried to help Steve (Stephen Nichols) discover a drug to save Bo (Peter Reckell).

'We will always have you in our memories,' Hall's character, who married Hogestyn's character six times, said. 'We will always hold you in our hearts. You can rest now.'
A montage of the two 'Days of Our Lives' characters' decades-long love story also played just before Black flatlined and was officially killed off.
'I know. I know,' Hall, 77, wrote on Instagram after the episode aired this week. 'Hardest day ever.'

Reckell, who returned to 'Days of Our Lives' as Bo for the first time since 2023 for the touching episode, said there was 'no acting required' when it came time to say goodbye to Hogestyn's character in the wake of the actor's actual passing.
'It's still difficult to talk about because Drake touched everybody in his sphere so closely, and he was my brother and one of my best friends,' Reckell, 70, told TV Insider. 'Having his memorial, there was no acting required in those scenes, because you're saying things as the character that parallel your feelings in your personal relationship.'
'When I went to John's memorial and all these emotions came up, I just wanted to run away and be by myself and feel those feelings,' he added. 'To have to do it as a character was really difficult.'

The popular soap opera's executive producer, Ken Corday, previously revealed that John Black's death scene was a direct result of Hogestyn's real-life battle with pancreatic cancer.
Corday, 74, told Soap Opera Digest in November that Hogestyn 'signed off' on his character's death scene shortly before he succumbed to his diagnosis.
Hogestyn's final 'Days of Our Lives' episode before his death aired on September 9, 2024. It saw his character share several emotional moments with his on-screen grandson, Tate (Leo Howard).

The show's official Instagram page announced Hogestyn's heartbreaking passing on September 28, just one day before his 71st birthday.
'It's with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Drake Hogestyn,' the statement read. 'He was thrown the curveball of his life when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but he faced the challenge with incredible strength and determination.'

'After putting up an unbelievable fight, he passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones,' it continued. 'He was the most amazing husband, father, papa and actor. He loved performing for the Days audience and sharing the stage with the greatest cast, crew, and production team in the business.'
'We love him and we will miss him all the Days of our Lives,' the statement concluded.

Y&R Gives Chance a Shocking Sendoff as Conner Floyd Relocates to Days — Read His Full Statement to Fans
We knew that Conner Floyd's time on The Young and the Restless was coming to an end, as the actor is moving over to Days of Our Lives in 2026, but we didn't think Chance would be leaving Genoa City quite like this. Upon being exposed as Damian's killer, Carter also attempted to put Cane in the ground on Monday's episode of the long-running CBS soap. Unfortunately, Chance intervened and, for his efforts, was fatally shot. More from TVLine NCIS: Origins Season 2 Spoiler Alert...? 'It's been real GC,' Floyd wrote in an Instagram post after Monday's episode aired on the east coast. 'What a ride. I have truly been blessed to call myself a citizen of Genoa City. To share the stage with so many talented and hard working actors, creatives and crew members. This is without a doubt a special place. I'm grateful to have been a part of such an iconic piece of art that has lasted through the decades and that has such a stellar, die hard fan base.' He continued, 'Thank you for accepting me. Chance will always have a close place in my heart. He's taught me a lot and I'll miss him dearly. It's been an absolute honor to represent the Chancellor legacy.' Floyd made his debut as Y&R's Phillip 'Chance' Chancellor IV in 2021. As previously reported, Floyd will soon relocate to Salem, taking over as Days of Our Lives' new Chad DiMera in 2026. Jamie Lee Curtis is ‘prepping' to leave Hollywood as she slams plastic surgery as ‘genocide'
Her Friday is getting freaky. Jamie Lee Curtis said she's preparing to leave the spotlight – in part thanks to her experience of watching her famous parents' careers as they aged, and thanks to watching plastic surgery take off. 'I witnessed my parents lose the very thing that gave them their fame and their life and their livelihood, when the industry rejected them at a certain age,' Curtis, 66, told The Guardian, in an interview published Saturday. MARIO GUZMAN/EPA/Shutterstock Advertisement 'I watched them reach incredible success and then have it slowly erode to where it was gone,' she added. 'And that's very painful.' The 'Halloween' star's famous parents were Janet Leigh – who was in Alfred Hitchcock's 'Psycho,' and Tony Curtis ('Some Like It Hot'). Leigh died in 2004 at age 77, while her dad died in 2010 at age 85. They were married from 1951 until their 1962 divorce. Curtis also slammed plastic surgery as being 'the genocide of a generation of women by the cosmeceutical industrial complex, who've disfigured themselves.' Advertisement 'The Last Showgirl' actress has been married to British actor Christopher Guest since 1984, and shares daughters Ruby, 29, and Annie, 38, with him. 'I believe that we have wiped out a generation or two of natural human [appearance],' she explained. 'The concept that you can alter the way you look through chemicals, surgical procedures, fillers – there's a disfigurement of generations of predominantly women who are altering their appearances.' 9 Jamie Lee Curtis in 1985's 'Perfect.' ©Columbia Pictures/Courtesy Everett Collection 9 Jamie Lee Curtis in 2003's 'Freaky Friday.' ©Walt Disney Co./Courtesy Everett Collection Advertisement 9 Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh with their two daughters, Jamie Lee and Kelly Lee. The minute I lay a filter on and you see the before and after, it's hard not to go: 'Oh, well that looks better.' But what's better? Better is fake.' Curtis did not name names of celebs who have admitted to getting plastic surgery, such as the Kardashians. 'There are too many examples – I will not name them – but very recently we have had a big onslaught through media, many of those people,' she stated. Despite her plans to step back from the spotlight, Curtis still has a recent slew of hot projects, as well as upcoming movies and TV shows. She finally won an Oscar in 2024 (for 'best supporting actress' in 'Everything Everywhere All At Once'), and has a recurring side role as Carmy's (Jeremy Allen White) mother in the Emmy-winning drama 'The Bear,' which has been renewed for a Season 5. 9 Jamie Lee Curtis in 'Halloween II' in 1981. ©Universal/Courtesy Everett Collection 9 Jamie Lee Curtis at the Cannes Film Festival on. Coming up, she'll film 'Ella McCay' alongside Woody Harrelson and her 'The Bear' co-star Ayo Edebiri (premiering in December) and will star. in the Prime Video series 'Scarpetta' with Nicole Kidman (which doesn't have an announced premiere date yet). Advertisement 'I have been self-retiring for 30 years. I have been prepping to get out, so that I don't have to suffer the same as my family did,' she told The Guardian. 'I want to leave the party before I'm no longer invited.' 'I have become quite brusque,' the 'True Lies' actress added. 'And I have no problem saying: 'Back the f–k off.''
