Mets' Buttó goes on 15-day injured list with unspecified illness. Senga to make rehab start Saturday
'We're not going to get into the details of it out of respect of Buttó, but we don't anticipate this being a long term,' Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said. 'We expect him to be back right after the All-Star break.'
Mendoza said he didn't anticipate that Buttó will need to go on a minor league injury rehabilitation assignment. A 27-year-old right-hander, Buttó is 2-1 with a 2.47 ERA in 31 relief appearances, the last a two-inning outing at Pittsburgh last Saturday.
New York recalled right-hander Chris Devenski from Triple-A Syracuse. Brought up for the fourth time this season, the 34-year-old right-hander has made four appearances for the Mets.
Right-hander Kodai Senga, sidelined since June 12 by a strained right hamstring, is to start a rehab assignment Saturday with Double-A Binghamton. He is to throw 60-65 pitches, according to Mendoza, and soon could return to New York's injury-ravaged rotation.
'We'll see how it goes tomorrow and then see how he responds and we'll have a decision after that,' Mendoza said.
New York didn't have an update on reliever Dedniel Núñez, who was put on the IL on Thursday because of a sprained right elbow sprain and could require Tommy John surgery for the second time.
'He's going to to visit a doctor next week because of a holiday weekend,' Mendoza said.

MUNICH (AP) — Bayern Munich says attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala faces a 'lengthy' recovery from a leg fracture after his collision with Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma at the Club World Cup. Bayern said Sunday that Musiala had flown back from Florida to Munich that morning for surgery on the injury he picked up in Saturday's loss to PSG in the quarterfinals. Bayern said doctors found Musiala 'sustained a fracture of the fibula (bone in the lower leg) associated with an ankle dislocation.' 'This serious injury and the lengthy lay-off are a real shock for Jamal and us all,' Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl said in a statement. He's back! 41-year-old reliever Jesse Chavez returns again for his seventh stint with Braves
ATLANTA (AP) — Jesse Chavez has returned yet again for his seventh stint with the Atlanta Braves, including his second this season. The Braves added the 41-year-old reliever to their major league roster before Sunday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. It is the sixth move to add the veteran right-hander to Atlanta's roster since 2021 and the seventh overall since 2009. Chavez allowed two runs in three innings in his first stint with the Braves this season after being called up on April 1. He was released a few days later and granted free agency before re-signing with the team. The Braves optioned left-hander Dylan Dodd to Triple-A Gwinnett and transferred right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach to the 60-day injured list. Schwellenbach was placed on the injured list on Wednesday with a fractured right elbow, possibly ending his season. The loss of Schwellenbach led the Braves to use seven pitchers, including Dodd, in a bullpen game in Saturday's 9-6 loss to Baltimore in 10 innings. That prompted the move to add Chavez for pitching depth in Sunday's final game of the series. Chavez first joined the Braves in December 2009 in a trade with Tampa Bay for reliever Rafael Soriano. He played on Atlanta's 2021 World Series championship team after signing a minor league deal. Chavez made his major league debut with Pittsburgh in 2008 and has pitched for nine teams in 18 seasons, including multiple stints with Toronto, the Los Angeles Angels, Texas and the Chicago Cubs.
