Hawks on hunt for 2 people of interest in KZN cop killing

News2407-05-2025
The Hawks in KwaZulu-Natal are searching for two people of interest in connection with the murder of police officer Sergeant Ntombi Mbanjwa.
Mbanjwa, 33, was shot and killed at her home in Umzimkhulu last April.
Her fiancé, Sergeant Ntokozo Mngqithi, and Bhungane Hadebe are currently behind bars in connection with her murder.
Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Simphiwe Mhlongo said Sanele Mthembu and Xolani Ngobese/Ndlovu are believed to have critical information that could aid in solving the case.
'Sanele Mthembu was last seen in the Dambuza area in Pietermaritzburg, where he was running a tuckshop. He is originally from Bulwer,' Mhlongo added.
'Xolani Ngobese/Ndlovu was last seen in Edendale, Pietermaritzburg. He used to reside in the Capital City Housing NPC flats and was self-employed as an Uber driver.'
Anyone with information about their whereabouts is asked to contact Warrant Officer Sipho Mnguni on 082 556 9559.
Mngqithi is facing an additional charge of corruption and defeating the ends of justice, relating to a separate case where he allegedly demanded a R60 000 bribe to quash a culpable homicide docket.
He was investigating a case in which a truck collided with a light motor vehicle, killing seven passengers in November 2022.

Six dead in mass shooting at popular Bangkok food market

At least six people have died in a mass shooting incident at a busy food market in Bangkok, Thailand, police said. The gunman fatally shot five people at the popular Or Tor Kor market in the Thai capital, a police official told Reuters, adding that the gunman had also killed himself. Security camera footage from the incident showed people scrambling to save themselves as multiple gunshots rang out. Another clip was widely shared that appeared to show the shooter holding a handgun and running through a car park from the market's entrance gate. The shooter, a man wearing a black T-shirt and carrying a backpack on his front, arrived at the market after 1pm local time and began shooting multiple rounds. He fled the market before shooting himself dead, Matichon reported. The victims have been identified as four security guards working at the market and a woman. Two other women were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. More follows
