M5 warning as junction closes for almost four months amid major upgrade
Mr Hickinbottom added: "My biggest fear is getting customers to Taunton train station and Musgrove Hospital. It's going to take longer."All sliproads at Junction 26, the roundabout and the A38 link road from the motorway to the Chelston roundabout are closed for at least 14 weeks. However, access to the Foxmoor Business Park will be maintained.Chris Penk owns House of Cake in Wellington and is concerned this will have an impact on trade."We won't have the through traffic from people dropping off the motorway into Wellington, people may choose to stay at home rather than risk hitting the traffic," he said.
Dr Mark Hunt, the owner and director of Home Instead care, has carers working in Taunton and Wellington."We have had to put contingency plans in place with people now going to have to travel further which is a cost to carers."Our clients can be quite vulnerable and frail, they can be taking time-critical medication so if we're late it can have an adverse impact on health," he added.
The official diversion will take motorists off at either junction 25 (Taunton) or junction 27 (Tiverton) and along the A38.Council chiefs are urging motorists to leave extra time for their journeys.Councillor Richard Wilkins, lead member for transport, said: "The road is over 50 years old and it's come to the end of its life. This is a huge job, we're basically relaying a complete road."

A First Bus spokesperson said it was "working closely with Somerset Council to manage traffic and roadworks" and that "new, larger electric buses" would be used on the route from July."These will include more space and luggage racks to improve things for our customers," the spokesman said."We welcome feedback and look forward to meeting Rachel Gilmour to better understand local needs and how we can keep improving for her constituents."Butlin's said any decisions about additional capacity would be made by the operator. The holiday resort welcomed the introduction of larger buses, which it said would "hopefully help alleviate the issues".

Construction is expected to take two years, with about 500 people on site by the end of 2025, and going up to 2,000 in 2026. The company said the steel structure was being erected in phases, with the build beginning at the north of the is the start of more visible construction work on the site and comes after 17,000 piles were driven down into the ground to stabilise the building's said all the steel used for the build was being sourced from British Wiggins, vice president of manufacturing operations at Agratas, said it was "a proud moment". "It is the start of a new chapter where our vision for a world-leading facility starts to visibly take shape," Mr Wiggins said. The company has promised to use sound-reduced equipment, electric plant if possible, and said no cutting or grinding works will take place on Sundays, to try and minimise the impact on local residents. Bosses revealed in April that the main building will now be 84 metres (279 ft) shorter than originally proposed, and the first factory building will not open until 2027 - a year later than previously said 1,500 operational jobs would be created when it opens in 2027, with 4,000 jobs on offer once they expand across the whole site.
