Vicky Sunohara returns as head coach of Canadian women's under-18 hockey team
Toronto's Sunohara, a two-time Olympic gold medallist who was inducted into the International Ice Hockey Hall of Fame this year, coached the under-18 team to a world championship gold medal in Finland in January.
Ottawa's Domenico, who was an assistant coach on the national women's team that won both Olympic and world championship gold medals in 2022, navigated the under-22 team to silver in last year's Women's Euro Hockey Tour, and a 1-1-1 record in a three-game series against the U.S.
There isn't an IIHF world junior championship for women, but Hockey Canada runs an under-22 program of some international games to develop players for the national squad.
An under-18 selection camp Aug. 6-9 in Calgary will determine a roster for a three-game series Aug. 13-16 against the United States in Lake Placid, N.Y., Hockey Canada announced Monday. Canada will also attempt to defend its world under-18 title Jan. 8-18, 2026, in Sydney and Membertou, N.S.
The development team will train in Montreal before a three-game series Aug. 13-16 against its American counterparts in Lake Placid.
Sunohara has coached the University of Toronto women's team for 15 years. Domenico is in her second year behind the University of Ottawa's bench.
'Vicky and Alison have displayed incredible passion for our women's program, and we are thrilled to have both return to our under-18 and development teams this year,' said Hockey Canada's senior manager of hockey operations Dylan Rockwell in a statement Monday.
'These teams are crucial steps in our women's program and demand a high-level of dedication from the coaching staffs who will assist our athletes in their development. We are excited to announce the coaches and support staff who will provide the necessary skills and guidance to our teams on the international stage this season.'
Amanda Benoit-Wark, a former national-team player, and Marc-Andre Cote join Sunohara on the under-18 coaching staff as her assistants, along with goalie coach Sheldon Goertzen and video coach Carlee Campbell.
Matt Desrosiers and Chris MacKenzie will be Domenico's assistants on the development squad, with Brad Fogal serving as goalie coach and Josh Bell as video coach.

'Laila Ali is way, way more skilled than Claressa. She comes from the science of boxing. And what did her dad use? The jab. Claressa don't have no jab, and Clarissa got to try to come inside. Laila going to hit her with the jab all day long. Laila has fast hands, and Claressa don't have no power. The only thing that Claressa has is her youth going forward with Layla. Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel makes big move to rival team
Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel will leave the team where he became one of the best riders of his generation to join Red Bull–BORA–hansgrohe from next season. The 25-year-old Belgian rider informed Soudal Quick-Step that he would not extend his contract, which was due to expire at the end of 2026. The team said on Tuesday it has agreed to release him early. 'After taking some time to consult with our sponsors and partners, the team's ownership and management have decided that it is in the best interest of everyone to agree that Remco can move at the end of the current 2025 season,' Soudal Quick-Step said in a statement. Evenepoel signed with Soudal Quick-Step at a young age after the squad's former manager Patrick Lefevere spotted his immense potential. Under Lefevere's supervision, Evenepoel won prestigious races, including the 2022 Spanish Vuelta, two stages of the Tour de France and two titles at Liège-Bastogne-Liège. He finished third at the 2024 Tour de France but withdrew from this year's edition. Widely considered the best time trialist in the world, Evenepoel remains focused on winning more Grand Tours. Florida's long snapper Rocco Underwood named to 2025 Patrick Mannelly Award watch list
The 2025 Patrick Mannelly Award watch list was recently released and included Florida football longsnapper Rocco Underwood, who earned the honor last season after a superb campaign. The rising redshirt senior originally from Lake Mary, Florida, will have the opportunity to repeat the honor in 2025 following an effort that also resulted in All-SEC recognition, as well as being named a Phil Steele First-Team All-American and AFCA Second-Team All-American. He has also made the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll thrice in his career, along with a SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll mention. Underwood has tallied a total of 314 special teams snaps over his four-season career in Gainesville, during which he made seven total tackles on special teams. Of those snaps, 103 of them came last fall when the special-teamer made significant improvements in his game across the board, amassing 56 successful punt coverages as well as 57 successful field goal and extra point attempts during that campaign. He notched his single-season career-high of three tackles in 2024, also notching his lone credited fumble recovery against the Florida State Seminoles. About the Patrick Mannelly Award The Patrick Mannelly Award was first issued in 2019 and is given to the best long snapper in college football. Named after Patrick Mannelly, who played as the long snapper for Duke University from 1993 to 1997 and was the long snapper for the Chicago Bears from 1998 to 2013. During his time in the NFL, Mannelly never recorded a bad snap and was credited with playing a pivotal role in the success of the kickers he played with. The award benefits Bernie's Book Bank, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to finding ways to help children develop their reading skills by providing free books to help build their home libraries in the local Lake Buff, Illinois, area. The 30-man watch list will be narrowed down to ten semifinalists on Nov. 17, with the three finalists being announced on Dec. 1 and the winner being selected on Dec. 13.
