Vypeen Beach Corridor Project gets lease of life

KOCHI: The ambitious Vypeen Beach Corridor Project, envisioned in 2017, has received a new lease of life with the state government granting administrative sanction to the proposal, albeit in a watered-down version. Instead of the Rs 4-crore project that would have catalysed the development of Ernakulam district's coastal stretch by connecting multiple beaches from Vypeen to Munambam, the new version enables infrastructure development at only three beaches.
Vypeen MLA's office said the new project will bring tourism infrastructure at Cherai, Munambam and Kuzhuppilly beaches. 'An amount of Rs 2.98 crore has been approved by the works committee and KEL (Kerala Electrical and Allied Engineering Company) has prepared a detailed project report for the proposal,' an official with the MLA's office told TNIE.
Sources pointed out that the project got delayed by eight years due to the objections raised by the Coastal Zone Management Authority. There was also the issue that these beaches are in sensitive places. The project in its original format would have seen the development of a coastal stretch, while enhancing tourism and fishing activities. The project included developing amenities, watchtowers, and kiosks, besides mangrove restoration and the potential construction of an oceanarium.
Now, with KEL submitting a revised plan for the project that adheres to CRZ norms and the number of beaches being brought down to three, where the security aspect doesn't pose a hurdle, the tourists arriving at these spots will have a good time.
A tourism official said, under the project, plans have been made to construct parking facilities and benches and to upgrade restrooms. 'There are also plans to set up cafes at these beaches. They will be operated under the policy of enabling the local community to earn a livelihood from tourism,' the official said.

China to get sleepless nights as Modi government makes Big move into Rare Earth magnets production, Rs 13450000000 to...

The demand for rare earth minerals is increasing quickly across the globe. These minerals contribute to several applications, like smartphones, electric vehicles, defense apparatus, and renewable energy technologies. Earlier in July, Union Minister of Heavy Industry and Steel HD Kumaraswamy stated that the Central government has drafted a proposal to offer a total of Rs 1,345 crore in subsidies to improve rare earth magnet manufacturing. This announcement is intended to strengthen critical technology supply chains in the context of restrictions placed on exports, primarily from China. Kamran Rizvi, the Secretary at the Ministry of Heavy Industries, has said that a draft scheme for rare earth magnet processing has been circulated for inter-ministerial consultation. The scheme is likely to provide incentives for establishing manufacturing infrastructure in the full value chain – mineral extraction and refining to manufacture of finished magnets. Kamran Rizvi, Secretary at the Ministry of Heavy Industries, stated that any manufacturer who does the end-to-end processing of rare earth oxides to finished magnets can receive the subsidy. This scheme will include both private and public sector enterprises. China's overwhelming control of global rare earth processing – commanding over 90 per cent of the world's magnet production capacity–has created significant vulnerabilities for industries worldwide. These materials are critical across multiple sectors, including automobiles, home appliances, and clean energy systems.

UP Cabinet Approves 1% Stamp Duty Exemption For Women On Property Worth Up To Rs 1 Crore

Lucknow: In a landmark Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at Lok Bhawan, the Uttar Pradesh government approved several key proposals aimed at boosting women empowerment, youth digital access, infrastructure, and education. The session cleared a total of 37 proposals and announced the commencement of the Vidhan Sabha's Monsoon Session from August 11. One of the most significant decisions made was the expansion of the stamp duty exemption for women property buyers. Previously limited to properties worth Rs 10 lakh, this exemption has now been extended to properties valued up to Rs 1 crore, offering a 1 per cent reduction in stamp duty. This can translate into savings of up to Rs 1 lakh per property registration in the name of women. State Labour Minister Anil Rajbhar said that this move targets middle-class women, helping them become property owners, boosting their confidence, financial independence, and social respect. The policy complements the Mission Shakti initiative and aligns with the Union Government's recent proposal to reduce stamp duty on property deeds, favouring women. In an effort to enhance digital empowerment among the youth, the Cabinet approved distributing feature-rich tablets under the Swami Vivekananda Youth Sashaktikaran Yojana. The tablets, superior to smartphones in screen size, battery life, and multitasking capabilities, will support education, skill development, and job preparedness. The five-year scheme has a budget allocation of Rs 2,000 crore for the financial year 2025-26 and will be fully funded by the state government without any financial burden on the Centre. The government also sanctioned the construction of the Chitrakoot Link Expressway, a Rs 939.67 crore infrastructure project to be executed via the EPC model. The 15.172-kilometre, initially four-lane expressway will connect Bharatkoop in Chitrakoot to Ahmadganj village, linking the Varanasi-Banda National Highway and NH 135 BG. This expressway is expected to improve regional connectivity and boost tourism in Chitrakoot by providing faster, smoother travel for pilgrims and visitors. The project includes a five-year maintenance period post-construction and is anticipated to generate around 38 lakh man-days of employment. To align technical education with industry standards, the Cabinet approved a Rs 6,935.86 crore project in partnership with Tata Technologies Limited (TTL) to upgrade 121 government polytechnic institutes. TTL will invest Rs 6,034.20 crore, while the state government will contribute Rs 1,063.96 crore plus an additional Rs 858.11 crore for infrastructure and facilities. The initiative will establish Tata Technology Excellence Centres to enhance diploma-level education and skill development. The first phase will focus on upgrading 45 polytechnic institutes as a pilot project. The Cabinet announced that the Monsoon Session of the Uttar Pradesh Legislature will begin on August 11. This session will comply with constitutional mandates requiring a maximum six-month gap between sessions. The government plans to present bills to replace ordinances issued after the last session and conduct other vital legislative business.
