Batchelor ready 'to show the world' on PFL debut

Yahoo2 days ago
Pontypool's rising MMA star Levi Batchelor will make his Professional Fighters League (PFL) debut on 5 July against unbeaten Tunisian prospect Fahdi "The Gladiator" Khaled in Brussels.
The bantamweight bout pits two undefeated fighters against each other, with both men boasting 2-0 professional records and looking to make a statement on one of the fastest-growing stages in mixed martial arts.

Batchelor, 23, said: "He's a dangerous opponent. It just goes to show once you get to this stage, you can't pick and choose who you fight."
The event marks the PFL's first major card in Belgium and continues the organisation's European expansion, building on its growing global profile with stars such as former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou and British standout Dakota Ditcheva among its ranks.
For Batchelor, the opportunity represents a major step in his young career and one he is relishing.
"It's a bit surreal," he added. "The PFL was never something I thought too much about - it always seemed so big and glamorous in the MMA world.

"As soon as the opportunity came, I jumped at it. I know I'm ready, I'm grateful to be here, and I'm going to put on a good show. It's the start of something special."
Training out of the renowned Shore MMA gym in Abertillery, south Wales - the same camp that has produced Jack Shore, Oban Elliott and Brett Johns - Batchelor has an impressive pedigree.
The Welshman enjoyed a decorated amateur career with a 9-1 record, capturing titles in the bantamweight and featherweight divisions on the Cage Warriors Academy Wales circuit.
"They've all said to me 'You're more than ready for this step', even before I turned pro," said Batchelor.

Both of Batchelor's professional wins have come via TKO, underlining the striking ability that has made him one of the most exciting prospects to emerge from the Welsh MMA scene in recent years.
"I'm more than ready for this level," he added.
"I'm going to shock a lot of people on the night. It's going to be an interesting match-up - but I'm looking forward to it."
Now, with the eyes of the MMA world turning to Brussels, the Welshman is embracing the moment and the chance to make his mark on the international stage.
"I've never been in a more perfect position to take this chance and show the world who I am," he said.

UFC contender Youssef Zalal itching to fight again in 2025, calls out Josh Emmett

Youssef Zalal wants to test himself with one of the biggest punchers in the UFC's featherweight division. LAS VEGAS – Youssef Zalal is getting itchy knuckles, and wants to get back in the cage as soon as possible. The streaking UFC featherweight contender has yet to book his second fight of 2025, and is already growing a bit restless, given he last fought in February. Speaking with MMA Junkie, Zalal (17-5-1 MMA, 7-3-1 UFC), who's on a seven-fight win streak, pitched veteran Josh Emmett to be his dance partner for his return to the octagon. "I hope the Josh Emmett fight can happen," Zalal told MMA Junkie Radio ahead of UFC 317. The Emmett callout is not personal, it's just what Zalal sees feasible at this point. There's a lot of moving pieces in the featherweight division, and several booked bouts. Zalal sees Emmett is one of the few top contenders he has a lot to gain from, who's currently not booked to fight. "I want to be the best in the world," Zalal said. "I want to be the world champion and I will be a world champion, so for me, we need that. I feel like the only way to climb up is to fight the top guys. For me, I'm just trying to climb up in the rankings, so hopefully that happens. Everybody else is booked or starting to get booked. They said Arnold Allen might fight Lerone Murphy, that there are talks about. Yair (Rodriguez) might fight or the belt, and you've got everybody else fighting, so the only one guy that doesn't have a fight in the top 10 is Josh Emmett." Zalal really hopes to make the Emmett fight happen this year. He's not too happy with his current level of activity, but understands the politics side to the game. "I hope so – that's the goal," Zalal said when asked about a 2025 return. "It's more politics. Movsar (Evloev), I think, is the best guy in the division so far that deserves a title shot and hasn't gotten a title shot, and he's fighting a guy that's not even ranked, that's not even in the UFC. It's all about politics in this game. You go out there and do something crazy, it gives you attention."

Wales UEFA Women's Euro 2025 Preview Previous Euro appearances: 0 Best Finish: Debut in 2025 Group: Wales is in Group D along with the Netherlands, France and England What Stands Out: This is the first time Wales has ever played in a major tournament. The group gained confidence by tying Sweden twice in Nations League and will try to keep that momentum going this summer. Top Players To Watch: Jess Fishlock is a Wales icon. The 38-year-old striker from the Seattle Reign leads the national team in caps (162) and goals (47), and will do everything she can to lead and motivate this squad. Keep An Eye On: Forward Carrie Jones debuted for Wales when she was 15. Now 21, she's already played for Manchester United, Leicester City and Bristol City before moving to IFK Norrkoping in Sweden. She's talented, versatile and is expected to be one of the team's top players for next decade. This Euro Will Be A Success If: Wales are significant underdogs and getting out of arguably the toughest group in the tournament would be an incredible success. But it's difficult to see them beating France, England or the Netherlands. Top Players To Watch: Veteran forwards Barbara Bonansea, Valentina Giacinti and Cristiana Girelli have 310 caps and 116 goals between them at the international level. Keep An Eye On: The experience up front is balanced out by 20-year-old starlet Chiara Beccari, who plays with Bonansea and Girelli at Juventus. Beccari has two goals in 17 international appearances so far. This Euro Will Be A Success If: Just getting back to the knockout stage would be a triumph for a squad that has clearly regressed over the last five-plus years. What would be better is to continue building toward a consistent identity and eyeing success at future tournaments.
