Pakistan's MLRS barrage on India? It's a video game, says PIB

Time of India09-05-2025
NEW DELHI: A viral video claiming to show a heavy rocket barrage by Pakistan on India has been debunked by the government as fake, with the Press Information Bureau (PIB) confirming that the footage was taken from a video game.
In a post on X,
PIB Fact Check
flagged the video as part of a broader
disinformation campaign
. 'Pakistan Propaganda Alert! A video showing a heavy MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket Systems) barrage is being falsely shared as a real Pakistani attack on India,' the post read.

It added that the video had been online for over three years and originated from a gaming platform, not any real-world conflict.
The clarification comes amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, following India's precision strikes on terror camps across the border in response to the April 22 attack in Pahalgam. Since then, several Pakistani social media accounts have circulated misleading content to provoke panic and distort the narrative.

The PIB's Fact Check Unit investigated seven such videos between late Wednesday and early Thursday. These included a video falsely showing a drone strike in Jalandhar, which was actually a farm fire. The district collector of Jalandhar confirmed this was misinformation.
Another clip purporting to show a Pakistani missile strike on India was found to be footage from the 2020 Beirut explosion. A separate claim that the Pakistani military had destroyed an Indian post was also disproved; there is no such entity as the "20 Raj Battalion" in the Indian Army.
A fabricated letter attributed to a non-existent Army chief, General VK Narayan, was also circulated online. PIB dismissed this letter as entirely fake.
A further video claimed that the Indian Air Force had launched attacks from the Ambala airbase. PIB confirmed this to be untrue, citing a detailed Ministry of Defence press release.
False reports of a 'fidayeen' attack in Rajouri and a blanket entry ban at airports were also debunked. Airlines including Akasa, SpiceJet, and IndiGo have instead advised passengers to arrive early due to heightened security measures.
PIB urged the public to stay alert and avoid spreading unverified content, stressing the importance of relying on official sources during times of national tension.

Best way to create terror is to disrupt Parliament: Delhi HC on 2023 breach case

The Delhi High Court on Thursday said that disrupting the Parliament is the best way to create terror in India while hearing a bail petition filed by the accused in the 2023 Parliament security breach case. The next hearing will take place on October 8. (PIB file photo) A bench of justices Vivek Chaudhary and Shalinder Kaur made the remarks after Manoranjan D's counsel submitted that their act of opening smoke canisters inside the Parliament while raising slogans did not amount to terrorist act since the smoke was not obnoxious and their intention was to only highlight unemployment and not create terror. However, the bench said, 'The best way to create terror in India is to disrupt the Parliament. You disrupted the Parliament.' Also Read: Delhi high court grants bail to Neelam Azad, Mahesh Kumawat in 2023 Parliament breach case Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan, along with two other accused– Neelam Azad and Amol Shinde were accused of orchestrating a protest involving coloured smoke canisters on December 13, 2023. Sharma and Manoranjan had jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitors' gallery, while Azad and Shinde protested outside. The four accused were immediately apprehended on December 13, 2023, while Kumawat and Jha surrendered before the police on December 14 and both were handed over to the special cell. The intrusion was planned to attract the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on issues such as inflation and poverty. It coincided with the anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attack on Parliament and sparked questions about laxity in security. The police had charged the accused under the provisions of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Indian Penal Code (IPC). The two had approached the high court against the trial court's order refusing to release them on bail. While Manoranjan had approached the court last year, Sagar approached the court on Thursday. Manoranjan in his plea had argued that the allegations against him were vague, no culpability could be attributed to him and Delhi Police wrongly invoked UAPA charges, since the offences under the same have not been made out in the present case. Sagar asserted that he was entitled to be released on bail on parity with the two co accused– Neelam Azad and Mahesh Kumawat, who were granted bail by the high court on July 2. The high court, while granting bail to Azad and Kumawat had deprecated their choice of place of protest, the bench had said that their protest was not a terrorist act. The court had said that their demonstrations were symbolic, in the nature of propagation of ideological messages and did not give a colour of substantial threat or terrorist intent. During the hearing on Thursday, the court also shot down the duo's contention of seeking bail on parity, noting that the two who were out on bail had protested outside the Parliament, while they were inside. 'You were inside the Parliament. There is no parity. You have to come on merits,' the bench said. The court, while asking Delhi police's lawyers– additional public prosecutor Ritesh Kumar Bahri and advocate Divya Yadav to file their response in Sharma's bail plea, fixed October 8 as the next date of hearing.

‘Real war': North Korea calls for preparedness for military action ‘anytime'; ramps up defence exercises

Kim Jong Un (PTI) North Korea's Kim Jong Un on Thursday urged his armed forces to remain combat ready. The Supreme Leader oversaw an artillery firing drill, according to Pyongyang's state media. His comments come amid North Korea's continued military support for Russia in its ongoing war in Ukraine, now in its fourth year. He called on his soldiers to be ready 'for real war' at 'anytime' and have the capacity to 'destroy the enemy in every battle,' reports the state media, reports AFP. Video footage broadcast by state media showed artillery unit soldiers firing shells into the sea. Kim was seen observing the drill through binoculars from an observation post, accompanied by two senior military officials. However, the exact location of Wednesday's exercise was not disclosed. Around 10,000 North Korean soldiers were deployed to Russia's Kursk region last year along with artillery, missiles and long-range rocket systems, as per South Korean and Western intelligence. At least 600 North Korean soldiers have been killed and thousands more wounded while fighting for Russia. North Korea has previously expressed its allegiance to Russia, reiterating that it is 'ready to unconditionally support and encourage all the measures taken by Russian leadership as regards the tackling of the root cause of the Ukrainian crisis,' reported KCNA. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play this game for 3 minutes, if you own a mouse Undo Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov earlier warned the US, South Korea and Japan against forming a security alliance with North Korea. SC stays Bombay HC order acquitting all 12 in 2006 Mumbai train blasts case

The Supreme Court on Thursday stayed the Bombay High Court order that had acquitted all 12 people convicted in the 2006 Mumbai train bombings. A two-judge Bench of Justices MM Sundresh and N Kotiswar Singh issued notices to the acquitted individuals, asking them to respond to the Maharashtra government's appeal challenging the High Court verdict. Appearing for the Maharashtra government, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta clarified that the state was not seeking to send the released individuals back to prison. However, he asked the apex court to stay the High Court's judgment, noting that certain legal observations in the ruling could affect other cases under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). 'Your lordships may consider saying, the judgment is stayed, however, they will not be required to come back to the prison,' Mehta said, as quoted by Live Law. Bombay HC acquits all 12 citing 'lack of evidence' On Monday, a special Bench of Justices Anil Kilor and Shyam Chandak of the Bombay High Court acquitted all 12 convicts. The court said the prosecution failed to prove their case and that it was 'hard to believe the accused committed the crime". 'The prosecution has utterly failed to prove the case against the accused. It is hard to believe that the accused committed the crime. Hence their conviction is quashed and set aside,' the High Court said in its ruling. The case was investigated by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). Who were the 12 accused acquitted by HC? The prosecution had alleged that all 12 men were members of the banned group Students' Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). The High Court overturned the convictions of both death row and life convicts.
