NEWS OF THE WEEK: Kevin Jonas nearly lost entire fortune after making 'bad' business deals

Yahooa day ago
During an interview alongside his brothers Nick and Joe Jonas for The School of Greatness podcast this week, the musician recalled how he nearly lost his entire fortune when the Jonas Brothers went on hiatus in 2013. "I've seen the beginning of the success to financial success - not knowing what money really was and understanding it - to not having (it), to losing almost all of it," he told host Lewis Howes. "You almost lost all your money?" asked Lewis, to which the 37-year-old replied: "Yeah, most of it, like, down to the one 10 per cent left."

BATMAN BEYOND Voice Actor Will Friedle Explains Why He Won't Return as Terry McGinnis - 'I Don't Know If I Could Do It Again' — GeekTyrant

Fans hoping to see Will Friedle return as the voice of Terry McGinnis in a Batman Beyond project might want to temper their expectations. At a recent panel at Animate! Columbus 2025, Friedle made it clear that revisiting the role without the late Kevin Conroy by his side just doesn't feel right. 'If you asked me that question three years ago, the answer would be, 'Oh my god, yes. Get me in front of the microphone right now.' 'Now that Kevin's gone, I don't know if I could do it again. I think they would need to recast both roles. Being Terry and not having him answer as Bruce, I don't think I could do it.' Friedle's comments echo a similar sentiment shared by Mark Hamill, who officially retired from voicing the Joker in 2023. When asked at Fan Expo San Francisco whether he'd ever return to the role, Hamill famously replied: 'Without Batman, crime has no punch line.' Both actors last stepped into their iconic roles for the Crisis on Infinite Earths animated trilogy. Since then, the absence of Conroy, who passed away in 2022 from intestinal cancer at the age of 66, has left a noticeable void in the animated Bat-verse. Conroy portrayed Bruce Wayne for over 30 years across animation, games, and even live-action in The CW's Crisis crossover. His final gift to fans, the autobiographical comic Finding Batman, can be read for free on DC's website. Friedle, best known in the '90s as Eric Matthews on Boy Meets World , carved out a second career as a prolific voice actor with roles in Kim Possible , Transformers: Robots in Disguise , Guardians of the Galaxy , and of course, Batman Beyond . The series, created by Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, and Alan Burnett, ran from 1999 to 2001 and introduced audiences to a new kind of Batman… Terry McGinnis, a rebellious teenager mentored by a much older Bruce Wayne in a cyberpunk Gotham of 2039.

James Gunn Says He 'Didn't Feel Guilt' Leaving Marvel for DC: 'I Was Fired' — GeekTyrant

James Gunn has officially planted his flag in the DC Universe with Superman , and he's not looking back. During a recent episode of Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, Gunn was asked if he felt any guilt about leaving Marvel for DC. His response was blunt and honest: 'No, I just shook my head. I didn't feel that way because I was fired. I didn't feel guilt at all. I mean, I had to take a job! I took a job [with] people that I also really liked, and that was it.' Gunn, of course, directed all three Guardians of the Galaxy films, and even shot the Thor: The Dark World mid-credits scene. But back in 2018, things took a turn. Disney cut ties with him over resurfaced tweets, leaving Gunn thinking his career might be done. 'I thought my career was over.' That's when Warner Bros. entered the picture. They initially reached out to him about Superman , but Gunn pitched The Suicide Squad instead. And in a twist of timing straight out of a comic book storyline, the same day Warner called, Disney reached back out, seemingly ready to bring him back into the fold. So Gunn found himself sitting at Kevin Feige's house, being asked if he was going to direct Superman . Eventually, he did return to Marvel one last time to finish Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 , before fully committing to DC, this time as co-head of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran. Despite the rocky exit, Gunn made it clear that the folks at Marvel were never the problem: 'Listen, there are people that I'm not that happy with over there [at Disney], but that certainly wasn't the Marvel guys, you know? They were completely supportive. '[Marvel Studios Co-President] Louis D'Esposito called me all the time. Lou and Kevin were great. So it certainly wasn't them.' Now, Gunn is fully focused on reshaping DC's cinematic universe. Chapter One: Gods and Monsters kicked off with Creature Commandos and now Superman . On deck are Supergirl , Peacemaker Season 2, Lanterns , and more, as DC aims to roll out two movies and multiple shows—live-action and animated—each year. For Gunn, the past is behind him. He didn't burn bridges, he just found a new one to build.

What are your top three non-negotiables for a successful barbecue? For me, it's simple: There's gotta be a ton of food, good company and yard games. Adam Minter is partial to cornhole: See his latest column on the summer's it-sport — but bocce, badminton or ladder golf are fun, too. For the menu, nothing beats beer can chicken — I've been meaning to try this Michelada-style one from Sara Tane that looks unreal — but any grilled meat will do.
