Helinox Has Upgraded Its Cult-Classic Camp Chair
In addition to the use of recycled polyester, Helinox has also started to use lightweight aluminum poles, made from repurposed raw materials. This proprietary aluminum alloy is made using the scraps usually discarded during the manufacturing of traditional DAC tent poles.
But they're not perfect. For starters, if you're sitting on anything other than firm ground, the feet will sink in. Helinox knows this happens, which is why they offer a ground sheet ($35), which attaches to the bottom of the chair to keep its legs above ground, and Vibram rubber feet ($40), which also prevent sinking. Both are neat solutions, but both add weight, bulk, and expense. That said, if you're not through-hiking, the rocking feet ($69), which turns the chair into a rocker, are almost worth it just for the disapproving looks from the fast-and-lite brigade. A Lot of Alternatives
As I mentioned before, there are now countless imitators, but also some genuinely great and downright comfortable camping chairs. WIRED reviews operations manager Scott Gilbertson loves his Nemo Moonlite camp chair ($160), which packs a fraction smaller and weighs just 2 pounds, 2 ouces, and he was surprised by the quality of REI's 1-pound Flextite Air Chair ($100). Decathlon's Quechua MH500 folding camping chair is a sensational value at $60, but having compared them side-by-side at music festivals last summer, it's not quite as stable, comfortable, or undeniably cool, as the premium-priced Helinox.
The compact design of Helinox chairs means it's easy to sling in the car, backpack, or even tote and enjoy a comfortable, supportive seat wherever you end up. They're great for festivals, picnics, hikes, and watching sports. My ultralight buddies have mocked me for carrying a Chair Zero on more than one bikepacking trip, but I'm the one laughing after 100 miles in the saddle. If you're looking for a premium sitting experience from the makers of the original suspended camp chair, you won't be disappointed.

Nemo's Updated Dagger Osmo Tent Has Nicer Fabric and Better Design Details
If you look at the photos, you'll notice that the rainfly arcs up at each end of the tent. This saves a bit on weight and improves ventilation, but it was one area that worried me when I reviewed the 3-person version years ago. Thankfully this has never been an issue, the bathtub floor (which is what is exposed below the fly) has proved plenty waterproof in my use. Speaking of bathtub floors, there is a clip-in vestibule floor that's also a bathtub shape. Nemo calls this the Landing Zone. It's a little extra triangle of fabric that covers about half the vestibule and protects any gear you've stored there from back-splash and any water that might come under the fly. There are stays in the rainfly to help it maintain its bathtub shape. The Landing Zone weighs next to nothing (1.7 ounces) and makes the vestibule much more usable, keeping your gear dry even if the ground gets wet. It's a nice feature I've come to appreciate on rainy days. Photograph: Scott Gilbertson What I really like about Nemo's tents over other options, like the Copper Spur tents, is the attention to detail. The Landing Zone, the ceiling headlamp pocket (which turn your headlight into a lantern, complete with reddish light), the quick clip fly attachment, the fact that the near vertical sidewalls mean the doors can use a straight zipper (which you can open with one hand), the nice hooks that allow you to roll the vestibule and inner doors out of the way … all adds up to a living experience that trumps most other tents I've tested. There are a couple of trade-offs here. The big one is weight. This is not the tent for ultralight backpackers, thru-hikers, or anyone looking for a very low-weight, minimalist structure. If that's you, look to tarps and non-freestanding tents like the Lunar Solo. Again, though, split between two people, I think a 4-pound tent like the Dagger is perfectly acceptable. The other trade-off: The Nemo is toward the high end of the price spectrum. In my experience, the combination of high quality materials, durability, and attention to detail make the Dagger Osmo 2P worth the investment.

Dorset beach likened to 'laid-back Los Angeles hotspot' among UK's best for 2025
A Dorset beach which has been likened to a "laid-back Los Angeles hotspot" has been named as one of the UK's best beaches for 2025. Southbourne beach again featured on the list from The Times, after having been rated as the best in the south of England in last year's article. It lost out on that particular accolade to Milford-on-Sea for 2025, but is still considered among the best the UK has to offer. Chief travel writer for The Times, Chris Haslam, visited 756 beaches and 51 resorts to come to his conclusions. Discussing his list, Haslam said: "The truth remains, though, that our coast is still the most beautiful and most varied on earth, and there's much to discover beyond the most obvious spots. "So pack a picnic and the factor 50 and make 2025 the summer of the beach that's a little harder to reach." The full list of the UK's best beaches for 2025 can be found on The Times website here. Southbourne was likened to Los Angeles by Haslam in his write-up, with the features outside of the sands and waters being highlighted. He said: "First featured in Best UK Beaches 2024, SoBo, as the cool kids call it, is in a residential area in Bournemouth's east end. "Here, the local restaurateur Rich Slater has transformed a neglected stretch of sand into something reminiscent of the laid-back Los Angeles hotspot, Hermosa Beach. "Sadly the nimbys didn't like the café in the double-decker bus, the art classes, fundraising and yoga sessions, although Slater's licence has been extended until autumn next year. "The plan now is to win over the doubters by improving the adjacent lavatories — and installing a sauna." Southbourne is a Blue Flag award-winning beach with colourful beach huts, and has the Fisherman's Walk nature trail in the cliffs above it. Visit Dorset adds: "It is a narrow strip of woodland with a nature trail and plenty of wildlife. The zig zag path leads all the way down to the beach." Southbourne wasn't the only Dorset beach to feature on the list as Hive Beach in the western part of the county was also included. Southbourne beach has been well-received by visitors, earning a 4.7/5 score on Tripadvisor from 254 reviews. One person said: "Amazing stretch of sandy beach from Hengisbury Head to Bournemouth. "Very clean. Great for a walk, picnic or swim. Probably less crowded than Bournemouth beach in peak season." Another shared: "Lovely clean and looked after beach, lots along the strip with pubs, food outlets and local cuisine eateries."
