Akhannouch Reaffirms Government's Commitment to King's Development Vision
Speaking after the royal reception held today in M'diq to mark Throne Day, Akhannouch described the occasion as a meaningful celebration for all Moroccans.
He said the anniversary offers a renewed opportunity to reflect on the key achievements and major projects carried out under the King's leadership, especially in the economic and social sectors.
Akhannouch also drew attention to the content of the King's Throne Day speech, which he said lays out new directions for boosting territorial development.
He stressed that the government remains fully mobilized to implement the royal strategies aimed at creating broader opportunities and improving conditions across Moroccan regions.
The King's vision for territorial development
In his speech on July 29, the King outlined a vision for territorial development across the country.
The monarch called for moving from 'classic patterns of social development to an approach in terms of integrated territorial development.'
He stressed that there is no place, neither today nor tomorrow, 'for a Morocco advancing at two speeds.'
The King outlined four priority areas for new territorial development programs, including employment promotion through 'valorization of regional economic potential and the establishment of a climate favorable to entrepreneurship and local investment.'
The second area concerns strengthening basic social services, particularly education and healthcare, 'to preserve the dignity of citizens and establish spatial justice.'
The king also raised the need for a 'proactive water resource management in response to worsening water stress and climate change,' as well as 'launching integrated territorial upgrading projects in alignment with national mega-projects.' US Firmly Triples Down on Backing Morocco's Sovereignty Over Western Sahara
Rabat – Algeria's regime and mouthpieces continue to push for a reversal of the US position on Western Sahara. However, the US administration continues to send a clear and consistent response: Washington has recognized Morocco's sovereignty, and that this stance will remain unchanged. Upon his visit to Algeria on July 27, Senior Advisor to the US President Massad Boulos received the same typical questions that US officials get from Polisario advocates and separatist lobbyists regarding the US position on Western Sahara. Boulos, however, once again reiterated and echoed a statement that the US has repeated at least three or four times within just two months. In an interview with Algerian news outlet Al Watan, journalist Majid Makedhi said that the Sahara issue 'remains a point of contention between Algeria and the US.' Same, same 'The recent statement by the U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio supporting Morocco's autonomy plan provoked a reaction from Algerian authorities, who regretted this position,' the journalist told Boulos. He also asked the US official for his view on 'what is the 'acceptable-for-all' solution in this matter?' The Algerian journalist, however, failed to receive a different response other than the US's steadfast position. In the interview published today, Boulos reiterated Rubio's remarks that the US recognizes Morocco's sovereignty over Western Sahara, as well as the serious and credible autonomy plan as the only basis for a just and lasting solution to the dispute. 'The United States continues to believe that real autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty is the only viable solution,' Boulos said. He also noted that Rubio's remarks convey President Trump's position, which also urges all parties to immediately engage in discussions, using Morocco's autonomy initiative as the sole framework to negotiate a mutually acceptable solution. Secretary Rubio made the same position clear to the international community during his meeting with Moroccan Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita in April. US President Donald Trump echoed the same position in a letter to King Mohammed VI on the anniversary of Throne Day last week. US Ambassador Nominee Richard Duke Buchan III also reiterated his country's position and highlighted his commitment to continue to advance and defend the same stance once he is confirmed as Washington's envoy to Rabat. All of these developments have not been enough to persuade Algeria's regime to abandon its hostility and lobbying efforts seeking to challenge Morocco's territorial integrity. Morocco's Sahara position, meanwhile, continues to gain momentum with the support of over 115 countries that view the autonomy initiative as the only, or the most credible and serious, basis to resolve the dispute. Despite this momentum, Algeria continues to deploy its mouthpieces to spread disinformation. One of the latest maneuvers involved Algeria's online trolls fabricating a false statement attributed to the US State Department. The forged statement claimed that the US President's message to the King and his reaffirmation of Morocco's sovereignty were fake. In the interview, Boulos also conveyed that he was reassured by Algeria's regime regarding cooperation to tackle security challenges in the Sahel. He said Algeria has shown interest in contributing to regional stability and counterterrorism cooperation. However, these assurances stand in stark contrast to Algeria's reluctance to engage in joint security efforts in the region. Committed to security cooperation while financing terrorism For years, Morocco has urged Algeria to collaborate in regional security operations to address the growing security challenges in the region. Yet, Algeria's regime chooses to interfere in the sovereignty of neighboring states. In April, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger announced the recall of their ambassadors from Algiers, accusing the Algerian government of premeditated hostile action. Algeria's acts continue to receive criticism, particularly as it continues to finance, harbor, and support the Polisario Front, which has been increasingly linked to terrorist networks operating in the Sahel. Most recently, Polisario was the subject of a request submitted by US Congressman Joe Wilson to Congress calling for the designation of the group as a terrorist organization. Chinese Auto Supplier Kuntai to Invest $13.7 Million in Moroccan Factory
Marrakech – Chinese automotive interior materials manufacturer Kuntai has announced plans to establish a production facility in Morocco through its subsidiary Kuntai Hongjing Co Ltd. The project represents a total investment of 100 million RMB (approximately $13.7 million or MAD 126.5 million) and will focus on manufacturing car floor mats and carpets for vehicles. The new Moroccan facility will integrate research and development, production, and sales operations for automotive floor mats. The company will also develop a service network in Europe to meet regional customer needs. This strategic move aims to strengthen Kuntai's international development strategy and reinforce its presence in the European market. The project will be implemented in phases, with deployment depending on market evolution and operational progress. It will be financed through the company's own funds without significant debt. The Moroccan factory follows Kuntai's international expansion roadmap, which already includes a production site in Mexico established in 2024 that serves the North American market. Kuntai specializes in tufted and non-woven carpets for the automotive industry. The company supplies Chinese manufacturers like BYD, Xiaomi Auto, Li Auto, and NIO, as well as European (Audi, Volvo, Land Rover, BMW), Japanese (Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Nissan), and American (General Motors, Tesla) automakers. Its product range includes floor mats, wheel covers, spare wheel covers, engine protection plates, and seat back covers. In the first quarter of 2025, Kuntai recorded revenue of $178.6 million and a net profit of $900,000. The Moroccan investment represents less than one quarter of its revenue but constitutes a strategic development axis targeting the European market. Morocco's geographic proximity to European markets like France and Spain, combined with free trade agreements with the European Union, provides far-reaching advantages. Products exported from Morocco benefit from duty-free access, which Kuntai notes 'significantly reduces arrival costs and neutralizes the effects of anti-dumping measures.' Maritime transport from Morocco reduces shipping distance to Europe by 80% compared to exports from China and cuts logistics costs by more than 60%, according to internal data cited in the company's announcement. Additionally, Morocco's lower labor costs compared to European countries contribute to product competitiveness, while the local regulatory framework offers incentives for foreign investors. According to Kuntai's 2024 annual report, international sales represented only 10.95% of revenue, with the Chinese domestic market accounting for 89.05%. The Moroccan facility will help rebalance production between China, Mexico, and Morocco, with each covering a major geographic region of the automotive market. The global automotive carpet market is valued between $166 billion and $189 billion. North America represents approximately $41 billion of this market, while Europe accounts for about $24 billion. Kuntai aims to capture a share of these markets through its two new factories. The company also reports expected profitability improvements, stating that the export gross margin rate reaches 35.05%, compared to 25.55% in the domestic market. Kuntai anticipates that Moroccan production will significantly improve the group's overall profitability while enhancing delivery times and product diversity. Chinese manufacturer Kuntai to set up car carpet factory in Morocco, investing MAD 126.5 million
Chinese manufacturer Kuntai has announced plans to establish a subsidiary and production base in Morocco through its wholly owned subsidiary, Kuntai Hongjing Co., Ltd. The plan, announced at the end of July, involves a total investment of up to 100 million RMB (approximately 126.5 million Moroccan dirhams). The new facility will serve as a car carpet production and development platform targeting the European market. This initiative is part of Kuntai's broader global expansion strategy, complementing its existing production bases in China and Mexico. The project remains subject to government approvals and may face certain operational risks and uncertainties. Founded in 1985, Kuntai Group specializes in the production and R&D of technical textile machinery, including laminating, cutting, and bronzing machines. The company serves a wide range of industries, from automotive interiors to military and footwear.
