Visakhapatnam: Thousands of devotees gathered at Lord Sri Jagannath Swamy temples in Vizag city and surrounding districts including Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Anakapalle, ASR, and Manyam in north Andhra Pradesh to celebrate Rath Yatra with religious fervor on Friday.
The sound of conch shells resonated throughout Vizag city as the chariots carried the divine siblings—Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra—to their aunt's house.
The
chariot festival
was organised by the century-old Sri Jagannath Swamy Temple at Old Town in Vizag city, Utkal Sanskrutika Samaj—a premier socio-cultural organization of Oriyas in Vizag—along with the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), Vizag, and Lord Jagannath temples at several other locations including RINL-Ukkunagaram Township.
Coinciding with the world-famous Rath Yatra at Sri Jagannath Dham Puri, Utkal Sanskrurika Samaj celebrated Rath Yatra in a grand manner in Vizag city.
The deities—Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra—were taken out in a colorfully decorated chariot from the temple at Daspalla Hills near All India Radio to the Sri Gundicha temple at Lawsons Bay Colony, amidst the chanting of Haribol and Sankirtan.
The deities were carried to the chariot from the sanctum sanctorum of the temple in a ritual called Pahandi Bije.

This was followed by the ceremonial sweeping of the platform by the designated Gajapati, Sri J.K. Nayak, president of the Samaj and vice president of OSL Group of Companies. Devotees then pulled the chariot through VUDA Park, reaching the Gundicha temple at Lawsons Bay Colony, where the deities will reside until July 5, before returning on the day known as Bahuda Yatra.
The weather was pleasant on Friday as thousands participated in pulling the chariot at Sri Jagannath Swamy Temple at Old Town. The authorities of the over 185-year-old temple said the deities were carried in a unique chariot standing 20 feet high. The procession commenced from Town Kotha Road and concluded at Turner's Choultry. Devotees felt that Odisha's rich culture was beautifully showcased in the Vizag car festival on Friday.

Erosion by Ganga ravages Bhojpur village, 50 houses lost in 7 days

1 2 3 4 5 6 Ara: People of Jawaniya village under Damodarpur panchayat in Shahpur block of Bhojpur district are spending sleepless nights as the Ganga river continues to erode land at an alarming pace, swallowing homes and temples. "About 50 houses have been lost to the river in the past seven days," said Ram Awatar Yadav, a local resident whose house was among 15 that were swept away on Tuesday. Another villager, Lagan Gond, shared his ordeal: "Even the remains of my house, which partially survived last year's flood, have been completely consumed by the river this time. I built it with much effort, and now it's gone." The erosion has also claimed a concrete water tank built by the govt in ward no. 4 of Jawaniya village. Religious sites, including Govardhan and Kali temples, and two ancient peepal and neem trees, have also been submerged. On it's part, Bhojpur district administration has given Rs 1.20 lakh each to 59 flood-affected people whose houses went under the river Ganga last year. Besides this 29 people have been given the land 'parcha' for building their new homes at safer places, said DM Tanai Sultania. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Dubai villas | search ads Get Deals Undo To help the displaced, the administration has increased the number of community kitchens from one to three. These are currently operational at Jawaniya High School, Jawaniya embankment and Damodarpur village embankment, according to revenue official Nitish Kumar. Relief measures include free medical camps, potable water, milk for children, fodder for cattle, polythene sheets and transportation to safer areas. "Instructions have been issued to ensure the distribution of quality meals to affected villagers," stated a press release from the DM's office. Raising the issue in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, Ara MP Sudama Prasad called for immediate and permanent measures. "A concrete embankment must be constructed to prevent future disasters. The root cause erosion needs a lasting solution," he said, also demanding compensation of Rs 25 lakh each for families who lost their homes in the flood.

CBSE warns schools: No more than 45 students per section—no exceptions

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a new circular for schools affiliated with the board which says they can now register up to 45 students per section in exceptional circumstances. This move, outlined in Circular No. 11/2025, aims to address challenges faced by schools in accommodating students, particularly in cases involving transfers or other unique situations. The exception will apply only in cases where schools are unable to adhere to the regular limit of 40 students per section. Key changes and background overview This circular comes as a follow-up to a previous decision by the board in August 2023, which relaxed the student limit from 40 to 45 for the academic sessions 2023-24 to 2025-26. The relaxation was introduced to help schools manage existing student numbers and ensure that admissions align with the prescribed norms. However, it was also expected that schools would work to gradually control the student intake and manage overcrowding in classrooms. Earlier, in May 2024, CBSE introduced a modification allowing schools to admit students in mid-session or those falling under the "essential repeat" category beyond the 40-student limit, but only on a case-by-case basis. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Dubai villas | search ads Get Deals Undo Schools were instructed to submit applications to the concerned Regional Offices for approval. This further revision expands the scope of exceptions to include a wider range of circumstances. Conditions for admission beyond the limit Under the new guidelines, schools can admit up to 45 students per section, provided they meet certain conditions. Schools are required to record the reasons for exceeding the limit in the online registration portal, as well as in the Admission & Withdrawal Register. This applies to all sections from classes 1 to 12. Key conditions include: The school must ensure that classroom sizes are at least 500 square feet, in compliance with CBSE's requirement of one square meter of built-up floor area per student. No school is permitted to admit more than 45 students per section, even under exceptional circumstances. The reasons for admitting more than 40 students must be documented and approved via the OASIS portal. The board has also emphasised that this exception applies only in cases where infrastructure permits, with an urgent request for schools to improve physical infrastructure where possible to eventually return to the optimal student-to-classroom ratio. Flight safety code breakdown: Mayday, Pan-Pan and more explained; understanding aviation emergency language

Representative image (AI) There are many more communication codes besides 'mayday' that pilots and cabin crew members use both on and off the ground while communicating with the ATC in flight operations. One of the most searched words in days following the Ahmedabad Air India crash was 'mayday'.' The word was part of a distress call transmitted by one of the pilots on the plane to the air traffic controller (ATC), implying a life threatening emergency. Pilots and cabin crew use a wide range of communication codes beyond just "MAYDAY" during flight operations, both in the air and on the ground, when interacting with air traffic control (ATC). Here are some of the codes used with their meanings as listed in an ET report - Mayday: The term is repeated three times to signal to ATC on the ground that the aircraft is facing some kind of life-threatening emergency and requires immediate assistance. PAN-PAN: It is used by pilots when requesting assistance from ATC during an onboard emergency, though it doesn't necessarily imply an immediate life-threatening situation. GPWS: It refers toa cockpit alert which is used to warn the pilot of an imminent danger of collision with the ground or an object. Arming the door: this signals activating the emergency escape slides so they deploy automatically when the door is opened during an emergency, facilitating faster passenger evacuation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like If you have a mouse, play this game for 1 minute Navy Quest Undo Disarming the door: it is used when deactivating the automatic deployment of emergency slides when the door is opened. NOTAM : Stands for Notice to Airmen, an official alert from aviation authorities informing pilots and staff about temporary or urgent changes impacting flight safety or operations. Go around: Also called a missed approach; occurs when an aircraft aborts its final landing attempt, climbs back, and either tries to land again or diverts to another airport. Aborted or rejected take-off: When a take-off is stopped during the roll, bringing the aircraft to a complete halt on the runway. V1: it is the takeoff decision speed, if once reached, the pilot must continue the takeoff. In case of an issue after V1, the aircraft must get airborne first before returning to land in an emergency. V2: The speed at which the aircraft becomes airborne. Runway incursion: Entry of an aircraft, vehicle, or person onto a designated runway area without clearance. Runway excursion: When an aircraft veers off or overruns the runway surface. CAT III : An instrument landing system (ILS) category that permits landings in very low visibility conditions (fog, rain, snow) with runway visual range (RVR) between 50 and 200 meters. CAT II: A precision instrument approach allowing landings with a minimum RVR of 350 meters. Stay informed with the latest business news, updates on bank holidays and public holidays .
