The old saying 'horses for courses' holds firmly for Goulburn trainer Matthew Dale, which is why he has patiently waited for Wednesday's meeting at Canterbury.
Dale's five-year-old gelding No Drama has shown a real love for the circuit with two wins and a close second from three starts.
His first win at Canterbury came July last year at just his second start for Dale while his other win and second placings came in his last three starts.
He led all-the-way to beat Naval Commission over 15050m on April 30 and was just caught late by Nana's Wish over the same distance on June 18.

'He's got a real liking for those sort of rolling, tight-turning tracks. He seems very suited to them,' Dale said.
'He's got a good record at Canterbury and he's also won at Moonee Valley as well.
'He nearly pinched it at Canterbury last start and the horse who beat him, has come out and won again since so the form if very solid.'
The Form: Complete NSW Racing thoroughbred form, including video replays and all you need to know about every horse, jockey and trainer. Find a winner here!
The son of Ghibellines can add to that record in the All Too Hard @ Vinery Stud Handicap (1550m) despite his top weight of 62.5kg.
'We have targeted these races with him but with his benchmark, he is just up in the weights a bit,' Dale said.
'He has ticked over well and stayed nice and sharp with a number of weeks between runs waiting for this race.'
Dale was happy with Ringarosa when fourth to Romeo's Choice over 1000m at Warwick Farm on July 2 at her first run in nearly eight months and first for the stable.
'I thought she would be well placed first-up and she ran accordingly,' he said.
'It was a funny day. It was a Heavy 10 and usually they come down the outside at Warwick Farm but they were coming up the rail and through the ruck that day.
'The form out of her race has obviously stood up too with Romeo's Choice winning again at Rosehill on Saturday.'
Ringarosa was an acceptor in two races but Dale has elected for the Benchmark 64 Broadsiding @Darley Handicap (1250m) where she has drawn barrier 3.
The six-year-old daughter of Sebring hasn't won for over two years but she is a winner over this track and distance.
'She has won at Canterbury and I think the step up in trip looks suitable.'

NRL 2025: New details revealed about Daly Cherry-Evans deal with Roosters

Don't miss out on the headlines from NRL. Followed categories will be added to My News. New details of Daly Cherry-Evans' reported switch to the Roosters have come to light including the length of the deal and a coaching role after his retirement. FOX LEAGUE, available on Kayo Sports, is the only place to watch every game of every round in the 2025 NRL Telstra Premiership, LIVE with no ad-breaks during play. New to Kayo? Get your first month for just $1. Limited-time offer > Cherry-Evans is widely expected to join the Roosters in 2026 after declaring this will be his last season in the NRL, but the details of the deal have been kept quiet. However, Michael Chammas revealed on Channel 9's 100% Footy that the deal involves one year of playing in 2026, before transitioning into coaching in 2027. 'My understanding is it's a one-year deal. He will announce that later in the year,' Chammas said. 'It'll have a one-year continuing on as a coach. 'Danny [Weidler] last week spoke about how Daly Cherry-Evans will move into a coaching role once he retires.' Cherry-Evans will be 37 by the tiume his playing commitments end with the Roosters before he is expected to retire and move into a coaching role. Daly Cherry-Evans is set to play one more season with the Roosters in 2026. The 36-year-old has scored 97 tries in 345 games for the Sea Eagles since his debut in 2011 and won a premiership with the club that same season before losing another grand final in 20213. Cherry-Evans has played 26 Origins for the Maroons before being dropped after game one this season and played 21 Test matches for the Kangaroos. 'No update there,' Cherry-Evans told last week when asked about his future. 'I'm just going to keep taking my time and make sure I make the right decision for myself and my family. 'But (I've) definitely still got a fire burning. That's always the most important thing, is you've got love for the game and a desire to keep competing. 'My focus right now is where it needs to be, and that's for the Manly side this year. 'We're sitting around that top eight at the moment, which is great. There's definitely lots of improvement left in us for the back end of the year. 'So if we can focus in and keep playing consistent footy, which we've done the last month, be able to play finals footy again, which is a big driving force for the team and I.' DCE could join Trent Robinson's coaching staff. (Photo by) SHARKS IN DANGER OF LOSING STAR AMID CONTRACT STAND-OFF The Sharks are in danger of losing hooker Blayke Brailey after he rejected an extension offer from the club as he looks to test his value on the open market. WWOS' The Mole reported talks have stalled between Brailey and the Sharks after he rejected an extension offer and issued the club with a counter offer. 'They [Cronulla] made an offer - we didn't accept it,' Brailey's manager David Riolo told Wide World of Sports. 'I put a counter offer and they are considering it. We are kind of in limbo at the moment. 'But the clock is ticking and if it can't get sorted before November 1, he will go to the open market.' Blayke Brailey has rejected a deal from the Sharks. Brailey is considered a NSW Origin hooker of the future and is a homegrown Sharks talent that doesn't want to leave the club. However, if the Sharks don't meet his demands he could attrac t interest from multiple clubs on the open market come November 1. The 26-year-old has scored 16 tries in 155 games for the Sharks since his debut in 2019 and has been an ion man in first grade having hardly missed a game since his debut. TIGERS TARGET QUEENSLAND YOUNG GUN Fresh off locking up skipper Api Koroisau with a two-year extension, the Tigers are targeting Queensland under 19s young gun Javon Andrews. The Daily Telegraph reported the Tigers have turned their attention to Maroons five-eighth prodigy Andrews. Andrew is currently at the Gold Coast Titans and starred for the Maroons in their Origin win earlier this year. The 19-year-old overcame a spinal injury that threatened his career, but is back to full health. The Tigers are looking to shore up their spine depth after Lachlan Galvin and Tallyn Da Silva left the club mid-season, while Adam Doueihi is weighing up a move to the Panthers in 2026. The Tigers have been locked in talks with Doueihi over an extension and have tabled a deal believed to be worth around $350,000 a season. The Tigers are eyeing Maroons young gun Javon Andrews. The Tigers are looking to the future with Jarome Luai and Latu Fainu as their halves pairing, but their skipper has a get-out clause that could see him leave the club if activated. Andrews would provide cover for Luai and Fainu and add depth while he develops into an NRL playmaker, while providing an insurance policy if Luai leaves. Has place at The Valley. ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ WYONG INSIDE MAIL RACE 1: MAIDEN HANDICAP (1600m) SUPER ECLIPSE (2) wasn't far behind the placegetters in her first two starts at Canterbury. Raced keenly when resuming with a third to Outta Line in a Super Maiden here. ZAMAZING (4) was third to Celtic Sin at his only run here back in May when resuming. Led and caught on the line by Steel Rain over 1600m at Gosford last start. OMAHA SANDS (3) was OK in his first two runs back from a spell before a third to Steel Rain and Zamazing. Was steadied late when awkwardly placed on heels. BET: SUPER ECLIPSE to win. RACE 2: SUPER MAIDEN PLATE (1000m) GAMP (2) laid in and wasn't fully tested when a length second to Hoku at Newcastle first-up. Led and run down by the favourite Bev's Nine over this track and distance last start. COPPERLINE (7) is a brother to Ritzsun on debut. Very good in leading all the way to win his last two trials, the latest by over four lengths from Star Of Indigo on the Beaumont on July 9. WAL'S ME MATE (1) has solid metro form with placings at Kensington and Warwick Farm over 1250m and 1200m. First go at 1000m. BET: GAMP to win. RACE 3: MIDWAY MAIDEN HANDICAP (1300m) FIREWORK (1) kicked off last campaign with back-to-back second placings behind Fly Scotty Fly and Money Team over 1100m and 1200m here on his home track. Narrowly beaten by Denial at Kembla first-up this time off the back on one soft trial. Will be better for the run. PICCADERRO (2) was bumped at the top of the straight when third to Sugar Island at Coffs Harbour last start. Blinkers off, winkers and crossover nose band on. ALFRED (4) will be better for his first-up fifth at Gosford and a step up in trip. BET: FIREWORK to win. RACE 4: 2YO MAIDEN HANDICAP (1300m) EXTRA HEIGHTS (2) is a first starter by Extreme Choice. Jumped well before drifting back and sitting three-wide before sailing down the outside rail when a neck second to Koibito in his July 11 Randwick trial. IMPURITEZE (9) is a debutant by Trapeze Artist from a daughter of Bold Promise. Settled midfield and closed nicely when second to Valedictorian in his Randwick heat the same day. FABRES (7) race wide without cover when third to Sapling and Tequisoda when resuming here on July 5. Drawn out again. BET: EXTRA HEIGHTS to win. RACE 5: BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP (1350m) AGED CARE (3) had cardiac arrhythmia when resuming at Scone back in May. Had a trial and retuned with a win at Port Macquarie before a second to Malabar here after racing wide without cover. CALIFORNIA SECRET (2) placed once in his first six starts but has found his best form this campaign. He started with a barnstorming win at Muswellbrook and followed with wins at Newcastle to complete the hat-trick. Game in defeat behind Audrey's Lane over 1400m last start. CELTIC SIN (5) has claims on his win two starts back. BET: AGED CARE to win. RACE 6: PROVINCIAL CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1350m) IMPRESSIONISM (1) ended is first campaign with back-to-back seconds in the country. Resumed over 1300m at Newcastle and defied a betting drift to led all-the-way and beat Bohemian Art before going for another break. THE PACIFIC (4) improved off his first-up run to break his maiden at Kembla second-up last campaign. Will take improvement from his first-up seventh at Newcastle over 1200m. JUSTICE WARRIOR (2) has always shown nice ability and finally broke through with an all-the-way win at Tamworth. Will take plenty of confidence from that victory. BET: IMPRESSIONISM to win. RACE 7: BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1200m) GRAPHIC SIGHT (12) was given a good break after his debut third at Canberra last December when racing three-wide. Returned with a stylish all-the-way win at Goulburn on July 8. BURJ (6) resumed with a sixth behind a dominant Diddle Dumpling over 1000m at Gosford on June 12 and returned there a month later when a short head second to Divine Vicky over 1100m. Her maiden win was over 1300m so she will appreciate a step up in trip here. TRUE AMOR (1) dropped in grade and led all-the-way here last start. Chance again although wide gate isn't ideal. BET: GRAPHIC SIGHT each-way. RACE 8: BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1600m) HOW MUCH BETTER (1) has been good in his three runs this campaign including a last start third to Audrey's Lane over 1400m at Newcastle. Back a little in grade but steps up to the mile which will suit him ideally. Unbeaten on his home track. DUBAI WARRIOR (4) was beaten as an odds-on fav at Wagga when sitting midfield. Freshened and appreciated rolling along in front to win here last start. COSMIC LAD (2) has claims on his first-up win here. BET: HOW MUCH BETTER to win.

Wyong preview: Firework primed to explode with maiden win

Don't miss out on the headlines from Horse Racing. Followed categories will be added to My News. As the season winds down and Sara Ryan prepares to leave her role as private trainer for Domeland is looking to go out on a high note with victory in the Wyong Trainers Premiership. Ryan currently sits equal first alongside Kristen Buchanan with 23 winners while Kim Waugh (22) and Damien Lane (21) hot on their heels. 'The Wyong premiership is very close. We are all fighting for that at the moment,' said Ryan. 'It would be a great way to end the season if I could win it.' The premiership would be a real feather in the cap for Ryan who is in just her third year training and set to become a public trainer in the new season. Ryan has four runners at her home track meeting with three proven performers among the leading chances in their respective races to help her in her quest. The Form: Complete NSW Racing thoroughbred form, including video replays and all you need to know about every horse, jockey and trainer. Find a winner here! Three-year-old gelding Firework is closing in on his first win after placings runner-up in three of his five starts and that can come in the Midway Maiden Handicap (1300m). The son of Written Tycoon resumed from a spell with a head second to Denial over 1200m at Kembla on July 17 and while beaten as an odds-on favourite, Ryan was happy with his run. 'I was surprised how short he was in the market first-up,' she said. 'I expected him to be a little vulnerable late because he was carrying a big weight off a very soft trial. 'Good fitness has come through that run and he is doing things right at home to tell me he is ready for the quick back-up. 'He's got a very big stride and I think stepping out in trip is what he needs. 'He has a sticky barrier but he has home track advantage and knows where the winning post is.' Ryan will also saddle up first starter Warm Front in the same race. The son of Too Darn Hot has trailed nicely including a third to Spice Prawn at Hawkesbury on July 7 but Ryan would just like to see him doing his best work late. 'It's just a learning experience for him and he will be a better horse next time he comes in,' she said. 'As long as he hits the line strong, he will go to the paddock after this.' Consistent gelding How Much Better is ready to peak fourth-up in the Benchmark 64 Handicap (1600m) after three solid runs, two of which in metropolitan company. 'He is knocking on the door and is now getting out to his preferred trip,' said Ryan. 'He does love Wyong. He has a great record there winning both starts. 'Apprentice Bronte Simpson will ride him. She rides him work and to win a race with her would be fantastic.' Rounding out her quartet is The Pacific in the Class 1 Handicap (1350m). The son of Exceed And Excel finished seventh behind Tickle Me Pink when resuming over 1200m at Newcastle on July 15 but she expects an improved run this time out. 'He blew quite hard after that first-up run and has taken good improvement from it,' Ryan said. 'He does a lot wrong as well but Regan (Bayliss) knows him. 'I have changed some gear and but a tongue tie on him. Hopefully that helps him settle that little bit better. Stepping out in trip will only help him as well.' The gelding has shown he can improve sharply when he kicked off last campaign with a sixth at Hawkesbury before scoring his maiden win second-up at Kembla followed by a third at Wyong. ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ Trainer Doug Gorrel knows the ability is there but is just playing the patient game with lightly-raced filly Rita Red. The daughter of Cosmic Force is showing an abundance of natural speed but a lack of race craft is the difference between winning and losing at the moment. 'She is definitely still a work in progress,' said Gorrel. 'Mentally, she is just not there yet and she can do things wrong on the training track as well but she does have nice speed. 'Once she can put things together, she will be winning races.' Rita Red began fast but couldn't cross to the rails when resuming at Dubbo on July 10 and was wayward in the straight, ducking out sharply at the 150m when runner-up to Denman Deputy. 'She was a little bit green in the straight and she is a bit of a thinker,' he said. Trainer Doug Gorrel is hoping a gear change can help speedy filly Rita Red break through. Photo: Grant Guy 'The winner beat her fair and square so I can't say her waywardness cost her the win but it certainly didn't help.' Gorrel has made a gear change this week in a bid to help her break through in the Maiden Plate (900m). 'I am trying her in the blinkers this week just to try and keep her straight,' he said. 'We really wanted to draw a barrier this time to use the rail to her advantage and help the penny drop a bit quicker but of course she has drawn the outside.' Gorrel was pleased with first-up run of Lost Ya Sock when second to Highland Eightgee at Dubbo and is hoping it's the start of her showing her true potential. 'It was a good run but it wasn't a strong race. At least she tried which I was pleased with,' he said. It was her third placing in 12 starts and is capable on figuring in the finish of the Country Boosted Maiden Plate (1400m). 'She is the most frustrating horse I have ever trained,' he said. 'She has got a stack of ability and riders have jumped off her and said 'she will win next start' but she leaves it all on the training track. 'Perhaps she is just one that needs time and she probably just needs a bit of confidence. 'If she can knock off one (race), she might just go on and knock off a couple more.'
