Mike Birbiglia is living ‘The Good Life' on Netflix
In a statement to Variety, Birbiglia called 'The Good Life' his 'most personal' special since it covers his 'life right now' instead of stories from the past.
'So there's really no filter,' Birbiglia said. 'At certain points during the tour I literally thought on stage: 'Whoa. Am I really gonna tell this story?' But that's sort of the idea behind these shows. I try to probe into what's most painful in order to figure out what's most funny.'
Birbiglia's return to Netflix marks the latest chapter in the ongoing streaming skirmishes over stand-up comedy. While Netflix and rivals like Amazon and HBO have long been destinations for comics, Hulu recently entered the chat with the

In addition to 'The Good Life' and 'The Old Man and the Pool,' Birbiglia's 2019 special 'The New One' and 2017's 'Thank God for Jokes' also streamed on Netflix.

'And we're like, 'We're staying here.'' But DeGeneres was full of praise for her new home, asserting that life 'is just better' in the U.K. compared to the U.S. 'It's absolutely beautiful,' she said. 'We're just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture — everything you see is charming and it's just a simpler way of life.' She added: 'It's clean. Everything here is just better — the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here.' DeGeneres also discussed moves in the U.S. to endorse the reversal of a Supreme Court case that allows same-sex marriage, adding that she was considering getting married again in the U.K.. 'The Baptist Church in America is trying to reverse gay marriage,' she said. 'They're trying to literally stop it from happening in the future and possibly reverse it. Portia and I are already looking into it, and if they do that, we're going to get married here.' In the conversation with Bacon, DeGeneres addressed allegations of a toxic workplace culture on her talk show in the U.S. from former workers and being branded as 'mean' in some press circles. 'It's as simple as, I'm a direct person, and I'm very blunt, and I guess sometimes that means that… I'm mean?,' she said. 'I don't think I can say anything that's ever going to get rid of that [reputation] or dispel it, which is hurtful to me,' she added. 'I hate it. I hate that people think that I'm that because I know who I am and I know that I'm an empathetic, compassionate person.' But DeGeneres admitted that it was 'certainly an unpleasant way to end' her talk show. Mahershala Ali's ‘Blade' Is Still Happening: Kevin Feige Says Initial Project ‘Wasn't Insanely Great at the Time'
'Mahershala Ali is still attached,' Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed at a press event on July 18 (via Variety), bringing some clarity to the long-awaited new 'Blade' entry in the MCU. Just last month, while promoting 'Jurassic World Rebirth,' Ali was evasive while discussing the project. 'Leave me out of it,' Ali said when his 'Jurassic World' co-stars Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey attempted to prod him on a Marvel-related trivia question. 'That's a Scarlett question.' In a separate interview with Variety at the 'Rebirth' premiere, he said. 'Call Marvel… I'm ready. Let them know I'm ready.' With the increased demand for product, Feige explained, 'for the very first time ever, quantity trumped quality.' 'We had spent 12 years working on the Infinity Saga, saying, 'That's never going to happen to us.' We always had more characters that people were asking about than we could possibly make, because we weren't going to make a movie a month — that's crazy. Suddenly there's a mandate to make more, and we go, 'Well, we do have more' … But maybe that's what we fell into,' he lamented. Feige went on to explain that they didn't want to 'just put a leather outfit on [Ali] and have him start killing vampires.' Instead, Marvel Studios wanted something 'unique,' and Feige added of the initial scripts, 'It wasn't insanely great at the time.' So, despite Ali's casting announcement in 2019 and his brief voice cameo in 2021's 'Eternals,' the two-time Oscar-winning actor has yet to take on the role originated on film by Wesley Snipes. 'We didn't feel like, as we often do, you can have a good script and make it a great script through production. We didn't feel confident that we could do that on 'Blade,' and we didn't want to do that to Mahershala and didn't want to do that to us,' Feige concluded. The most significant update regarding 'Blade' this year actually made it seem like the project might be dead. Earlier this month, it was revealed that the movie 'Sinners' used period costumes that were originally procured by costume designer Ruth Carter for 'Blade.' Before he revealed the actual status of the production, Feige joked that this was the reason 'Blade' was on hold. 'The obstacle was, Ryan Coogler called and said, 'We'd love some costumes for 'Sinners,'' Feige joked. 'And we said, 'Take 'em man, no problem' — he's a good friend — 'take our costumes. We'll hold off on the movie.'' On July 18, Prime Video announced their upcoming television series based on the nostalgic beach read—and if you're a friends-to-lovers girlie, this one is definitely for you. Thankfully, Prime Video didn't keep BookTok waiting for updates, immediately announcing seven cast members, including our main duo.
