Affair ends in bloodshed

A MAN was fatally attacked over his affair with a married woman in Bengaluru, India, Makkal Osai reported.
The man, identified only as Sreenivas, 30, was living with his lover Kiran, who had recently separated from her husband.
However, Kiran later found out that Sreenivas had another girlfriend, so she decided to break up with him and move out of their house. Despite this, Sreenivas apparently continued harassing Kiran by going to her new house.
Angered by this, Kiran's three brothers and a few of their friends broke into Sreenivas' house and slashed him to death.
Police have arrested seven people so far, including the siblings.

Taiwan jails 10 people for spying for China
TAIPEI: A Taiwanese court on Monday jailed a coach of Chinese yo-yo and nine others for spying for Beijing, as Taipei seeks to counter China's influence on the self-ruled island. The two sides have been spying on each other for decades, but analysts say the threat to Taiwan is greater given that China has threatened to use force to bring Taipei under its control. Taipei District Court convicted nine defendants of violating the National Security Act for 'developing an organisation for China', while another was found guilty of illegal currency exchange. The ringleader Lu Chi-hsien was a coach for 'diabolo' -- Chinese yo-yo -- who was recruited during a visit to China, prosecutors said in November when he was indicted. Lu was 'persuaded and enticed' by a Chinese 'intelligence agent' and was paid to 'develop an organisation, collect intelligence and military data', the court said in a statement. Lu recruited five former or then-active military and coast guard personnel, who went on to convince a dozen others to join them and hand over military documents. The ringleader was paid by Tian Xi, the only Chinese national among the defendants, who handled around NT$194 million ($6.6 million). He was given an eight-year prison term, while Lu was jailed for 10 years and six months, and the others were sentenced to between three and six years. They can appeal the ruling. Aside from the five recruited from the military and coast guard, those convicted included three friends of Lu, who moved a safe house, provided bank accounts, and digitised and delivered military documents to him. The number of people prosecuted for spying for Beijing has risen sharply in recent years, with retired and serving members of Taiwan's military the main targets of Chinese infiltration efforts, official figures show.

China defends diplomats after Taiwan VP car ramming claims
BEIJING: China defended its diplomats on Monday after Taiwan accused Beijing's embassy staff of planning to ram its vice president's car during an official visit to Europe. 'Chinese diplomats overseas always respect their host country's laws and regulations,' Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said. Taiwan's top China policy body, the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC), said on Friday that Hsiao Bi-khim's motorcade was surveilled and followed in a ploy to be rammed during a visit to the Czech Republic in March 2024. Czech military intelligence spokesman Jan Pejsek told AFP on Sunday that Hsiao was targeted by 'persons legalised in diplomatic positions at the Chinese Embassy in Prague'. He said they tailed her and sought information about Hsiao's programme and meetings with Czech officials. China claims Taiwan as its territory and has ramped up the deployment of fighter jets and warships around the self-ruled island in recent years. In response to the Czech claims, Beijing insisted on Monday that 'Taiwan is a part of China and has no so-called vice president'. 'No matter how the DPP authorities try to change things up and seek independence from the outside, and drive a wedge in China's diplomatic relationships, they will not be able to cover up their sinister plot and their attempt will not succeed,' Mao said, referring to Taiwan's ruling Democratic Progressive Party.

Drugs worth 700mil pesos seized in Philippines; cops probing link to ‘floating' shabu

Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PNP DEG) Director Brig. Gen. Edwin Quilates announced this in a press conference at Camp Crame on Monday (June 30). According to the PNP DEG, 103 kilograms of shabu were seized in an operation on Saturday night along Bantique Street in Barangay Bulihan, Plaridel. 'When we opened the package, our investigators who were conducting the inventory said it was still wet. The bag was also wet. Then the packaging was wet. The tea bags had four layers of covering,' Quilates said. When asked if the shabu was linked to drugs recently recovered in the waters off Luzon, Quilates answered, 'We will look into that. We will connect it to the recoveries there in Subic recently. That's the disposition of our operatives and investigators.' According to the PNP DEG, a Chinese individual and a Filipino were arrested during the operation last Saturday. Police identified them as 'Lian,' 55, and 'Ry,' 40, respectively. 'He has a seafood store and a small restaurant. He has a common-law wife. They've been living [there] for more than ten years. He's been here a while,' Quilates said. 'We will check on his documents as to how he got here and his status of residency here in our country,' he added. Quilates said the Filipino suspect was merely the Chinese national's helper. The suspects were brought to the PNP DEG for documentation, while the seized drugs were turned over to the Forensic Group for laboratory examination.
