WWE Legend Opines on Criticism for Goldberg's Swansong at Saturday Night's Main Event

Image via WWE Bill Goldberg and Gunther will battle it out at Saturday Night's Main Event on July 12 in Atlanta for the coveted World Heavyweight Championship in what is billed as Goldberg's last-ever WWE outing. However, there has been some opposition and criticism from the fanbase about a 58-year-old getting a title shot while the young crop work hard for their opportunities every week. Moreover, Goldberg has been out of his prime for quite some time now. He last competed in the WWE in 2022 at Elimination Chamber and has been involved in relatively shorter matches owing to his age. Joining the fan base was Bully Ray who recently questioned Goldberg getting an opportunity at this stage of his career. And it seems that the former WWE tag team legend has more to say just days out from the NBC special. Bully Ray Says WWE Is Looking to Bank on Goldberg's Starpower Bully Ray recently appeared on Busted Open Radio to discuss Goldberg's WWE return alongside many other topics. The former TNA Champion explained that the promotion is actually not looking to get an in-ring classic with the 58-year-old but is rather banking on his legendary status and the momentum that comes with it. Ray told his fellow host Dave LaGreca, 'I don't understand how you're not understanding why they would do it. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Bill still has a name. Bill still looks great. They are not concerned about the match. That's why they are putting him in there with Gunther. They understand that a lot of — Bill's last five outings haven't been, you know, five-star bangers. That's not the point.' He added, 'The whole thing with Bill is the spectacle. The entrance. The show. What happens from bell to bell, they would do their absolute damnedest to keep the spotlight on what Bill does well, and what Gunther can get out of him." Ray's opinion makes perfect sense. Even in his heyday, Goldberg wasn't known to have in-ring spectacles but his presence and intensity had the power to sell out arenas and stadiums. His matches against Hollywood Hulk Hogan for the WCW Heavyweight title were a massive success while his WWE outings against The Rock and Triple H were classics owing to Goldberg's enigmatic personality. And it is safe to say that the promotion is looking to make money that way. Moreover, the WWE legend has been putting in the work since January 2025 to be healthy come this Saturday in what could be his last WWE match. India vs England, 2nd Test Day 5, Edgbaston Weather Update: Will rain spoil India's chances of maiden Test win in Birmingham?

India's captain Shubman Gill celebrates after scoring a century during day four of the second cricket test match between England and India at Edgbaston in Birmingham, England, Saturday, July 5, 2025. (AP Photo/Scott Heppell) Birmingham's weather on Sunday could play spoilsport in India's chances to level the series 1-1 in the second Test against England at Edgbaston. India are in a dominant position, courtesy of India captain Shubman Gill, who became the first batsman in Test history to make scores of 250 and 150 in the same match before Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep again struck with the new ball as the tourists pressed for a series-levelling win. Gill followed his first-innings 267 in the second Test with another superb knock of 161 off just 162 balls. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! He eventually declared India's second innings on 427-6 after tea on the fourth day. That left England needing a mammoth 608 runs to go 2-0 up in this five-match series. However, according to the forecasts, the morning will begin under overcast skies with light showers expected between 9 and 11 am. These early interruptions could delay the start of play and inject fresh life into the pitch, offering assistance to the seamers with lingering moisture. India Dominate Day 4! Siraj & Akash Deep Rattle England As per the UK Met Office, wet weather is likely to impact the first part of the day in Birmingham, with rain probabilities ranging between 50% and 30% from 10 am to 2 pm local time (7:30 pm IST). However, the forecast indicates that 'heavy rain will give way to overcast skies by lunchtime,' and the likelihood of further showers will drop to below 10% after 3 pm. No side in 148 years of Test cricket has made more to win in the fourth innings than the West Indies' 418 against Australia at St John's in 2003. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Elite Option Trader Gopal Benefits from Laxman Rekha Strategy – Now You Can Too! But at Saturday's close in Birmingham, they were 72-3, needing a further 536 runs on the final day to achieve a win that would be remarkable even in their current 'Bazball' era of aggressive batting. Mohammed Siraj, who led India's attack with 6-70 in the first innings, struck an early blow Saturday when he removed Zak Crawley for a duck as a loose drive went straight to backward point. Deep, given the unenviable task of replacing Jasprit Bumrah, the world's number one-ranked fast bowler, then carried on from his four-wicket haul first time around by bowling left-hander Ben Duckett (25) with a nip-back ball. He then clean bowled Joe Root for just six as the world's number one-ranked Test batsman was undone by a superb full-length ball that moved away late. Djokovic hits 100 Wimbledon wins, but daughter Tara's dance takes centre stage. Watch video

Novak Djokovic may have etched his name deeper into tennis history with his 100th Wimbledon singles victory on Saturday, but it was his 7-year-old daughter Tara who captured hearts at Centre Court with an impromptu celebration of her own. Moments after Djokovic sealed a dominant third-round win over Miomir Kecmanovic , attention shifted from the champion's on-court prowess to the stands, where Tara stood ready to 'pump it up.' The crowd, already buzzing after the match, erupted into laughter and applause as the young Djokovic performed a now-familiar family routine — a fist-pumping dance that has become something of a tradition between the tennis great and his children. 'You want to show it darling?' Tara did not hesitate. As the camera panned to her, she delivered the playful dance with precision: fists pumping down, then side to side, then overhead — just as her father does on court. The Centre Court audience roared its approval. Live Events 'She's the master,' Djokovic said, smiling. 'It's a little tradition we have right now. Hopefully we can keep going so we can keep pumping more in Wimbledon.' — Wimbledon (@Wimbledon) Djokovic becomes third player in history to hit 100 Wimbledon wins While Tara stole the spotlight with her charm, the occasion was momentous for her father. With a 6-3, 6-0, 6-4 victory over fellow Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic, Novak Djokovic became only the third player in Wimbledon history to record 100 singles match wins. The milestone places him behind only Martina Navratilova (120 wins) and Roger Federer (105 wins). Djokovic, a seven-time Wimbledon champion, made a statement early by winning nine straight games from 3-3 in the opening set. He was nearly flawless in the first two sets, hitting 60 winners to just 19 unforced errors and firing 16 aces. 'I have enjoyed myself very much except maybe the last couple of games. Things got a bit complicated,' Djokovic said. Kecmanovic fought back late in the third set, but the 38-year-old held firm to close it out. A standout moment in the match came in the eighth game of the first set when Djokovic, poised for a break, lunged for a backhand volley at the net. The shot clipped past Kecmanovic down the line as Djokovic sprawled across the grass. Still on the ground, he turned to the crowd with a smile as Centre Court erupted. Still sliding, still splitting, still fighting Now playing his 20th Wimbledon, Djokovic remains one of the sport's most relentless competitors. 'I try not to take anything for granted, particularly (at) this age, still going strong, still trying to compete with the young players and do some slides and some splits on the court, and push myself to the limit,' he said. Up next, Djokovic will face No. 11 seed Alex de Minaur for a place in the quarterfinals. A potential semifinal clash with world No. 1 Jannik Sinner looms, and Djokovic will be hoping to avenge consecutive final losses at Wimbledon, including last year's defeat to Carlos Alcaraz.
