Hitchin composer writes music for home town
Talk of the Town was performed at St Mary's Church by the local amateur string orchestra and conducted by Daniel Hogan.Farrington said he knew some of the players in the orchestra which included local teachers. The piece is 18 minutes long in total and each of the five movements drew inspiration from the Saturday market, the church, Windmill Hill, his home and the town square."I chose locations that were also familiar to other people," he said."I just thought about my upbringing and the wonderful times I have had in them and still do."
The Saturday market movement is about his memories of going there with his mum and experiencing the "hustle and bustle".He wrote about St Mary's Church because he was a choirboy and had learnt to play the organ there. His memories of Windmill Hill are about sledging down it which was "both wonderful and also very dangerous because it is very steep and when it snows it can get very quick"."So that one is a fast movement with lots of hustle and bustle," he explainedFarewell Old Home is a melancholic movement and is about "the idea of separation when you are leaving somewhere".He continued: "I had to think about what particular locations I wanted to write about because there are so many places that are special."
Speaking about the coronation, Farrington said: "I had to write a piece that was a celebration of the Commonwealth so it had to incorporate lots of different tunes from around the world and it wasn't about location - it was about people and diversity."I had to do a lot of research into different folk melodies from different countries and I had a certain amount of free rein to do what I wanted and it was a lot of fun."He said: "It was a really lovely day."

Rachel Reeves inadvertently breached rules on declaring freebies, watchdog finds
Rachel Reeves inadvertently breached parliament's rules by failing to declare gifts on time, the standards watchdog has found. The chancellor was probed by the standards commissioner over free theatre tickets, which she failed to add to her register of interests within 28 days. She blamed 'an oversight' for her initial failure to declare the gifts, which included tickets to an adaptation of the classic children's novel Ballet Shoes at the National Theatre over Christmas. Ms Reeves had only listed the donation in the register for ministers, not MPs. In an email to standards commissioner Daniel Greenberg, Ms Reeves suggested the tickets were received in her capacity as chancellor, but that 'there is often ambiguity as to whether hospitality I receive is purely as a result of my role as a minister, or whether it is additionally received in my capacity as an MP'. 'Therefore, to be as transparent as possible, it is my ongoing intention to declare hospitality of this nature on both registers,' Ms Reeves added. After investigating the entry, Mr Greenberg accepted there had been an inadvertent breach, but told the chancellor she could have avoided the mistake by paying 'greater attention to the rules'. Ms Reeves apologised and promised future gifts would be registered in line with Commons rules. The investigation centred on two donations of tickets by the National Theatre. One was a show and dinner last March, valued at £265, and the other was for the December show, valued at £276. The inquiry came at a damaging time for Ms Reeves and Sir Keir Starmer, as it was announced on the eve of the local elections, in which the party suffered heavy losses. She previously faced criticism from MPs for accepting free tickets to a Sabrina Carpenter performance while outlining plans to cut benefits by £5bn. Last year, she also pledged she would not accept any more free clothes from donors after Labour's first months in power were overshadowed by a row over freebies. It came after the chancellor used her Mansion House speech to vow to 'take the boot of regulation off the throat of businesses', unveiling a bonfire of red tape to boost the economy. She said: 'In too many areas, regulation still acts as a boot on the neck of businesses, choking off the enterprise and innovation that is the lifeblood of growth. 'Regulators in other sectors must take up the call I make this evening not to bend to the temptation of excessive caution but to boldly regulate for growth in the service of prosperity across our country.' She told her audience of bankers and investors: 'We have been bold in regulating for growth in financial services and I have been clear on the benefits that will drive with a ripple effect across all sectors of our economy, putting pounds in the pockets of working people.'

New £32million Eden Project attraction that will be fully underground to open in the UK
ANOTHER Eden Project is set to open in the UK - but it won't be like any of the others. On the Jurassic Coast, the plan is for the new attraction to be constructed completely underground. 4 4 While it might be the first time some are hearing of the project, the Eden Project Portland was brought up many years ago but was paused - until now. The new Eden Project Portland will be a partnership between MEMO and the Eden Project. Speaking on Radio Solent's Dorset Breakfast show, founder and project director of MEMO, Seb Brooke said: "I believe this is going to happen now, and now is absolutely the moment." The planned project will be built in South Dorset inside disused mine and quarry tunnels. It has been called an"underground cathedral" where visitors will explore a combination of the ancient art of stone carving and cutting-edge technology. The area will be transformed into an immersive space that will tell the story of life on Earth. The Eden Project will also focus on the threats to biodiversity and how people can work towards a sustainable future. The cost of the project has been estimated at £32.7million with an opening date planned for 2028. The first in a series of many consultation events took place in early July 2025. Around the same time, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer expressed his support for the attraction. The huge new UK attraction opening in 2025 with play areas, live shows and cafes – and it's right on the beach 4 He said it was a "hugely exciting project" and made clear that funding commitments will be made soon. When the project was discussed in 2018, it was said that the attraction could bring 325,000 visitors a year to the isle and £24million to the local economy. Up in Morecambe, there is a plan to build an Eden Project, but the opening date has been pushed back by two years. The new project costing £100m was expected to open next year, but work on the attraction is yet to start. Plans for the site show three huge egg-shaped structures looking over Morecambe Bay. Other images of the site reveal planned walkways linking treehouses together as well as other wooden structures. It will also have a "hyper-real forest" with large installations and an immersive theatre. The project was originally named Eden Project North, and the hope was that it would have the same success as the Eden Project in Cornwall, which opened in 2001. Here's more on the Eden Project resort set to open in the UK – with waterfront attractions, play areas and immersive shows. And another Eden Project attraction that is set to be the 'biggest undercover play area in Europe'. 4

THREE Love Island couples SPLIT tonight as under-fire boy's lies are called out after steamy sex session
THREE Love Island couples are set to split tonight, as an under-fire boy's lies are called out, after their steamy sex session. It's been a dramatic week on the show, topped off with a shock recoupling that saw Toni pick Harrison, after he'd slept with Lauren. 6 6 6 Harrison has been called the "lowest of the low" with fans begging producers to step in and axe this "damaging boy' after they had sex. Now, in the wake of the love triangle chaos, Lauren officially ends things with him - and Toni and Cach call it quits too. Trying to make things right, Harrison and Toni both go to apologise to Cach and Lauren. Lauren says to Harrison: 'I've wasted my whole time getting to know you for no reason… To do what you've done to me tonight is so disrespectful.' She adds: 'I feel like everything has been a lie,' she continues. Meanwhile, Cach tells Toni: 'That was one of the most embarrassing things I've been through in my entire life… You knew what decision you wanted to make, you were just waiting for the go ahead from someone else. 'I can't respect that. Good luck with your endeavours,' he concludes and walks away. Cach then confides in Ty on the Terrace, and begins to cry. Cach admits: 'I can't believe I'm crying. I haven't cried in years,' to which Ty replies: 'This is real though, it's you. It's better to let stuff like this out than bottle it up. It doesn't make you any less of a man, in fact more of a man.' Fans have demanded that Harrison be axed from the villa after his actions. Love Island's Billykiss reveals secret upset with Boris Taking to X, one furious viewer penned: 'I am actually disgusted by harrison and how he treated lauren and it actually puts me off watching this show tbh. 'Being used for sex is bad enough but it being broadcast for anyone to see is actually dreadful. i can't even imagine how she's feeling right now. I'm not even a lauren fan but honestly wish i could give her a hug myself rn.' A second person added: 'Absolute deviant is never done licking his lips. Makes me sick.' A third wrote: 'He's officially the worst islander this season for me. i need him gone.' Someone else echoed: 'I don't understand how people like him don't get booted from the show for being f****** disgusting.' Meanwhile, a third, and perhaps less expected, split also occurs on the show tonight. Boris confesses to Billykiss how he's really feeling about their dwindling connection - and ends up calling it quits. He tells her: 'We don't have the same sparkle as it was before. Maybe we should try to explore new connections.' Billykiss replies: 'I feel like your energy shifted and the spark was slowly dissolving, but I feel like it was because of you… ' Boris then sets his sights on Emma and invites her for a secret chat in the Hideaway. Whilst on the swing, the two get to know one another better and then head to the hot tub where things get steamy and they share their first kiss. 6 6
