'We're the only commission in the country that is taking arpa money, American Rescue Plan dollars, to invest in businesses of color so that we can continue to grow the economy locally, statewide, and nationally. Our model is one that is really setting the tone for the rest of the country,' said Gary Lee, chief administrative officer of Diverse Erie.
Lee said they expect the businesses they've invested in to continue to grow, adding even more jobs to the workforce.

Why does the White House want to redesign gas cans? Explaining the situation

The White House says it wants to 'Make Gas Cans Great Again.' Under a plan announced July 24 by President Donald Trump's Environmental Protection Agency, the federal government is encouraging manufacturers to add vents to portable fuel containers, also known as gas cans. It would effectively reverse a 2009-rule by federal environmental officials at the time that required portable gas cans - used for lawnmowers, chainsaws, ATVS and stranded vehicles - to have special vents that stop the vapors from escaping. Proponents of that rule - which was finalized in 2007 - said the vapors that escape contributed to ozone pollution. But the 2009 rule created an online market for pre-ban gas cans among buyers dissatisfied with the new cans. Why does Trump want to redesign gas cans? 'Gas cans used to pour gas,' Trump's head of the EPA, Lee Zeldin, said on X, formerly Twitter. 'Now they just dribble like a child's sippy cup.' But many modern designs are often infuriatingly ineffective at actually filling tanks because the vents work so poorly, critics argue. Instead of stopping vapors from flowing out the complicated spouts and relief valves, the new designs often cause gasoline spills, which some critics say are far worse than a tiny amount of vapor escaping from an older design. Some rules for gas cans will still remain in place Other rules for gas cans have to remain in place under federal law, like making sure they're child-resistant and limiting the risk of flash fires. What happens next for gas cans? The EPA's announcement is non-binding for manufacturers and doesn't prohibit the vents. Rather, the EPA is asking manufacturers to redesign the gas cans to have vents 'to facilitate fast and smooth fuel flow.' Lee Chambers recognised as an 2025 inspirational D&I leader

Lee Chambers of Male Allies UK The CEO of Male Allies UK was featured on the 2025 D&I Leaders most inspirational list Lee Chambers, the business psychologist and CEO of Male Allies UK, was nominated in a survey of 370 international diversity and inclusion professionals as an inspirational leader in the field of gender equality and male allyship. The list recognises who people in the profession see as thought leaders who are accelerating workplace inclusion across the globe. Chambers features on this year list for the first time, and is joined by other practitioners whose focus on evidence based inclusion stands out in the current climate. This years list includes John Amaechi, Pamela Hutchinson and Zaheer Ahmad. The list, in it's 5th year, is one of the most prestigious pieces of recognition for those in the field of inclusion, given it solely selected by peers across the globe. Diversity and Inclusion Leaders are a community of over 20,000 people, in roles relating to inclusion and those passionate about people and culture within organisations. They host a yearly summit and a range of expert led events across the calendar year, designed to upskill and equip leaders while fostering connection across industries. On featuring on this years list, Lee Chambers said, 'To be recognised and held up by those that work in the field is a moment to remember on my journey. Male Allies UK may only be a year old, but years of work have gone into ensuring we are impactful, relevant and innovative, and create outcomes that last for our clients. I wouldn't class myself as inspirational, but I do feel inspired by the difference we have made. This is my peers telling me to keep going, and I get fulfillment and energy from that.' This caps an excited first half of the year for the Male Allies UK team, and with the launch of their Voice of the Boys report in the House of Commons and collaborations with global companies across 12 sectors, they are just getting starting in making male allyship and gender equity a reality. Companies want Bitcoin treasuries. They need to consider these six factors

Crypto treasury companies are booming. More than 200 public companies now hold Bitcoin or Ethereum on their balance sheets, with dozens more launching weekly. From US President Donald Trump to an online casino marketing company, firms are beefing up their balance sheets by holding crypto as a reserve. To some, these so-called Digital Asset Treasuries are no more than overleveraged crypto plays wearing corporate suits. But for Tom Lee, Wall Street strategist and crypto bulwark, there's more than meets the eye. There are five distinct advantages to a crypto treasury company, Lee said in an interview with investment firm Pantera Capital, although it all comes down to a sixth: 'management.' Here are the six advantages to launching a crypto treasury company, according to Lee. Capital markets For Lee, capital markets are the first driver. When a company's stock trades above the value of its crypto holdings, it can issue new shares and use the proceeds to buy more tokens — effectively growing its assets without raising debt or diluting per-share value. 'They're actually growing your holdings by selling stock,' said Lee. It's 'a really strange concept, it's accretion.' So, if investors are willing to overpay for a company's crypto exposure, the company can keep stacking at a discount. Cost of money The fact that an exchange-traded fund holder has a cost of money is the second driver, according to Lee. That's because when a retail investor wants to borrow money for a crypto position, they face interest rates of up to 10%. But corporations have access to far cheaper capital — and nifty financial instruments like bonds or derivatives to drive those costs down even further. 'MicroStrategy is borrowing money at 0%,' said Lee. It's like taking out a zero-interest loan and earning yield on the borrowed funds. Strategy now holds upwards of $73 billion in Bitcoin. Issuing equity The third advantage is that a public company can issue equity, said Lee, and use that equity as a strategic asset. 'Imagine there are two Digital Asset Treasury companies that both hold Ethereum,' he said. 'One trades at net asset value, the other at a premium. The premium company can acquire the other using its stock, and suddenly grow its ETH per share again.' In other words, when a company's shares are trading well above the value of its crypto holdings, those shares can become a powerful acquisition tool. Companies scoop up cheaper rivals, increase their onchain reserves, and drive more value to shareholders, all without spending a dime in cash. Operating leverage Another major advantage of crypto treasury companies, especially those focused on Ethereum, is that they're not limited to passively holding coins — they can build real businesses around their holdings. 'They can actually build an operating company that grows the ETH per share,' Lee said. That means an Ethereum treasury firm could develop products, infrastructure, or services directly within the Ethereum ecosystem. All of this activity can generate revenue or earn more ETH, compounding the company's onchain exposure and potentially boosting shareholder returns. Onchain yield Ethereum-based firms can stake their ETH and earn yield on top of capital appreciation — a dynamic that simply doesn't exist for most Bitcoin treasury companies. 'This is something unique to the non-Bitcoin treasuries,' said Cosmo Jiang, portfolio manager at Pantera Capital. 'It's a structural advantage.' Jeff Park, head of Alpha Strategies at Bitwise, has also highlighted yield as Ethereum's unique value proposition for a corporate treasury play. 'Ethereum is a useful asset,' Park said in a July 8 interview on the Wolf of All Streets podcast. 'Bitcoin stores value. But Ethereum is productive — it earns yield.' The story But the biggest factor? The narrative. 'It all comes down to whether the market believes the story,' said Lee. For investors to buy in, the managing team needs to have a clear vision on how to achieve the previous five factors, according to Lee. 'That's why Metaplanet trades where it does.' Metaplanet is a former budget hotel operator from Japan that has become one of the most aggressive Bitcoin treasury firms. Since 2024, when it pivoted, the company's market capitalisation has gone to about $6 billion from $13 million. Bitcoin trades at around $119,142.
