Michael Bisping reacts as ex-rival who blinded him gets Hall of Fame induction
Michael Bisping has stated that his ex-rival, Vitor Belfort, is deserving of his spot in the UFC Hall of Fame. The pair famously fought back in 2013 when the Brazilian fighter blinded Bisping with a head kick that detached his retina.
The British fighter underwent surgery and now uses a prosthetic eye. Despite this setback, he went on to have a successful career in the ring, picking up the middleweight title in 2016 after defeating Luke Rockhold. Bisping retired in 2017 following consecutive losses to Georges St-Pierre and Kelvin Gastelum.
With a professional record of 30-9, the 'Count' has victories over notable names such as Anderson Silva, Dan Henderson, Matt Hamill, Chris Leben and Dan Miller. Belfort's career was not without controversy, as he legally used testosterone-replacement therapy [TRT] throughout his time in the UFC.
The former light-heavyweight champion was recently welcomed into the UFC Hall of Fame in recognition of his impressive achievements in the octagon. Upon hearing the news from UFC boss Dana White earlier this month, the 48-year-old was visibly moved and broke down in tears.
Bisping still believes his rival is a 'cheat' when reacting to the reward - despite giving him some praise. 'When we were in Des Moines, Paul Felder had a little piece for the (video) package where we speak about the greatness of the people getting inducted into the Hall of Fame. They said, 'We won't ask you Mike, for obvious reasons.' I said, 'You know what? I don't care. I'll do it,'' he told MMA Junkie.
He continued by acknowledging the fighter's achievements despite personal grievances: "When you look at it and remove all the emotions from it, the man was the UFC heavyweight champion of the world at 19. He then became the light heavyweight champion. He almost became the middleweight champion. He's the closest thing we've had to a three-weight champion.
He added: "I lost an eye because of this guy. He can stick his Hall of Fame up his a**. But he does deserve it. You can't deny what he did inside the octagon. You just can't deny it. If that's not a Hall of Fame career, I don't know what is. Whether you like it or not, he deserves it.'
Belfort, known for winning the light-heavyweight championship against Randy Couture in 2004, faced many big names during his MMA career, including Chuck Liddell, Wanderlei Silva, Tito Ortiz, Alistair Overeem, Dan Henderson, Luke Rockhold, and Jon Jones. With a professional record of 26-14-1, he retired in 2018 following a knockout loss to Lyoto Machida.

'It was definitely avoidable; there was a lot of pressure. There were some problematic things coming from a lot of people. It's not the best way to attract attention." Enrique appeared to be trying to pin the blame on Blues chief Enzo Maresca as he added: 'I have seen Maresca. 'I saw he had pushed others and we had to separate all the players and I do not know where that pressure came from. "I have no problem expressing my feeling at the end of the game in a high level of pressure. It's very stressful for all of us. It is going to be impossible to avoid that. "Everybody was involved. It was not what was best and the end result of the pressure of the match. "But this is a situation we must all avoid. That goes without saying. My intention is that I wanted to separate the footballers, so the situations didn't become worse." Joao Pedro, who scored the third goal of Chelsea's first half blitz, suggested the flare-up had been sparked by PSG players making a bee-line for Brazilian youngster Andrey Santos. He said: 'I went to protect Andrey. I saw their players were crowding Andrey. Like a good Brazilian, I went to protect my friend. 'A lot of people were arriving and in that mess, I ended up getting shoved. It's part of it. "I don't need to say anything more about them because it's normal. Everyone wants to win the game and, in the end, I think they lost their heads. "But this is football, this has happened and now we need to enjoy it because we won the tournament, that's it. I don't want to talk too much about them because you know how it works. Football is this." Neves' red card, though, will not bring a ban unless Fifa rule it deserves an extra punishment. The regulations for the tournament state: 'Without prejudice to any other sanction that might result, any match suspension resulting from a player or official being sent off - as a result of a direct or an indirect red card - will not be carried over to another competition.'

A lot can change in a week – Horne on Scotland's latest Lions call-ups
Scotland assistant coach Pete Horne believes their latest Lions call-ups have given the touring squad a timely reminder on how fortunes can quickly turn around in sport. Winger Darcy Graham has already joined eight other Scots in the British and Irish Lions squad days after being sent off in a 29-14 defeat for Gregor Townsend's team in Fiji. Prop Rory Sutherland and hooker Ewan Ashman will join him after Scotland's final tour match against Samoa on Friday with a view to playing in next Tuesday's match against a First Nations & Pasifika XV. Horne said: 'It was nice, it gave a bit of energy to our meeting this morning. Obviously, all the boys were delighted. 'Gregor made a really good point in the meeting. Look at what Ben (White) did at the weekend there. He had a cracking game. He put himself right in the mix for potentially getting involved in some Test rugby. 'And there's no reason that our guys can't go over there and make a quick impression and, before you know it, you can play a critical part in the Lions series. So, it's exciting for them. 'It's another little reminder to some of our boys as well. A lot can change in a week. A lot can change in a couple of days. So, there's still a big carrot there for some of our fellows as well that are playing on Friday night.' Graham's change of fortunes is particularly marked. The Edinburgh player, who has scored 31 Scotland tries, was deemed unfortunate to miss out on the initial Lions squad by many and his summer took a further downward trajectory when he received two yellow cards in Suva on Saturday. But he is clear of suspension after a disciplinary hearing and now part of Andy Farrell's squad. 'We were all gutted for Darcy,' Horne said of his initial rejection. 'Everyone loves him. We all know what he can do and how he's a world-class player. And we were devastated he didn't make it. 'But he was really cool. I'm sure he'll be straight into training as soon as he lands and showing everyone just what he's all about. And he can end up having a big part to play.' Scotland's ill-disciplined defeat against Fiji was a major blow to their hopes of rising one place in the World Rugby rankings and ensuring a top-six spot ahead of the World Cup draw in December. But Horne said: 'Off the back of a defeat, I feel like it's always pretty easy for guys to get a bit of energy and get going again because you are desperate for another opportunity. 'There's also nothing worse than finishing a tour and finishing the season off the back of a defeat, so everyone will be desperate to right some wrongs and go well this weekend. 'A lot of the things that went wrong at the weekend were around the breakdown area, so there's been a big focus on that, especially that last 15 minutes. They really hammered us there. 'We showed a bit of footage on little ways that we can find solutions to be better and stop them getting over the ball. And that will just sharpen the focus. 'We defended so well for large parts of that game and just gave them a few cheap easy ins through offsides. Something like an offside, that's an easy fix. 'The players are all over it. The leaders have already spoken about that. I'm sure we'll see a reaction.'
