First Royal Mint coin to celebrate Anne goes on sale for her 75th birthday

Independent16 hours ago
The first ever official UK coin to honour the Princess Royal has been unveiled in celebration of Anne's 75th birthday and her 'remarkable lifetime of service'.
The Royal Mint's commemorative £5 piece, dubbed its 'Anne-iversary coin', was personally approved by the princess.
It features a portrait of the King's sister wearing the Aquamarine Pineflower Tiara with her hair swept up in her signature bouffant style.
The design is framed with the inscription 'The Princess Royal – Celebrating 75 Years – Duty and Devotion' in tribute to Anne's steadfast royal duty over the decades.
Anne, often viewed as the hardest working member of the royal family, turns 75 on August 15, but so far has insisted her milestone should only be publicly marked by a charities forum she hosted at Buckingham Palace in June.
Rebecca Morgan, director of commemorative coin at the Royal Mint, said: 'For the first time in British numismatic history, we are honoured to celebrate the Princess Royal on an official UK coin.
'Her Royal Highness's unwavering commitment to public service, charitable work, and support of His Majesty's armed forces over seven and a half decades makes her truly deserving of this tribute.'
To the right of the princess's portrait is a depiction of her official coat of arms, and on the obverse is the King, who gave the creation its final sign-off in honour of his sister.
Thomas T Docherty, who designed the coin, said it reflected the princess's 'strength of character' and 'understated elegance'.
The portrait of Anne's head is based on a photograph of the princess taken by John Swannell, a Royal Photographic Society fellow, and shows her staring directly at the camera.
Mr Docherty said: 'I wanted to capture Her Royal Highness's remarkable legacy and dedication to public service.
'The portrait reflects her strength of character and unwavering commitment to duty.'
He added: 'It was really by observing Princess Anne and looking at the role she plays within not only her family but the nation and the Commonwealth that formed inspiration for the design of the coin.
'She has, I would say, a kind of understated elegance and strength.'
Mr Docherty continued: 'Being Scottish, I admire the Princess Royal's dedication to Scottish organisations and communities, and I hope this coin serves as a fitting tribute.'
The art deco-style diamond and aquamarine Cartier tiara Anne is wearing was a wedding anniversary present from King George VI to his wife Queen Elizabeth, later the Queen Mother, who went on to give it as a wedding gift to her granddaughter Anne in 1973.
The princess is also wearing an aquamarine pendant and matching earrings, both believed to have been made using stones from the tiara when Anne had it remodelled in the 1990s.
Anne, the only daughter of the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, is known for her no fuss approach.
She has survived a kidnapping attempt, competed in the Olympics and spent decades supporting her mother before becoming a vital part of the King's slimmed-down working monarchy.
The princess carried out nearly 400 official engagements in 2024 – the most of any member of the royal family – despite it being the year she was rushed to intensive care, spending five nights in hospital after she was believed to have been struck by a horse.
The commemorative coin is available to purchase from the Royal Mint's website on July 18, costing £17.50 for the brilliant uncirculated edition.
Other versions of the £5 coin are also available, with a silver proof priced at £110, a silver proof piedfort costing £208, and gold proof for £4,110.
The coin is also being sold as part of three sets which also feature either a single George VI threepence or florin or multiple George VI coins from 1950, the year the princess was born, with the prices ranging from £25 to £4,500.

The REAL reason Chloe Sims is still not on speaking terms with sisters Demi and Frankie as bitter family feud rumbles on

The real reason behind Chloe Sims bitter two year feud with her sisters Demi and Frankie has been revealed. Chloe, 43, Frankie, 30, Demi, 28, their brother Charlie, 33, and his fiancée Georgia Shults, also 33, ventured to LA to film their own reality show House of Sims in 2023. However, only a couple of series in a big brawl between the sisters played out on-screen and led to Demi and Frankie jetting back to the UK and removing all traces of their siblings off Instagram. Two years on, it seems the trio are still not on speaking terms, and it could be down to Chloe's closeness with her brother Charlie's fiancée Georgia. A source told The Sun: 'Frankie and Demi feel like they have been replaced by Georgia. 'It's as if Chloe and Georgia are sisters now, and Frankie and Demi are strangers to them. Frankie and Demi basically felt like they were pushed out, and Chloe has no time for them anymore. 'They expected this fallout to have been resolved by now, but Chloe's closeness with Georgia has only made the gulf between the sisters even wider.' MailOnline has contacted Chloe, Frankie and Demi's representatives for comment. In 2024, Demi explained that the argument stemmed from admin and money. Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, she said: 'My side was that there was an argument over the Wi-Fi bill because we all needed our names of the bill to get credit to live in LA... 'Charlie, Chloe and Georgia all went out to put their names on and me and Frankie were left in the dark a little bit. Me, Charlie, Chloe and Frankie were all paying evenly for this house and Georgia wasn't paying... 'We felt like "why is Georgia getting the credit and we're not?" So that's what it came from, which I feel was a fair argument.' Telling her side of the story, the TV star remarked when her sister Frankie, 28, and Charlie, 31, had the argument she did 'try to stay out of it' despite the argument involving her too. Yet the quarrels increased tensions between the siblings, at which point some 'teams' within the family where formed. 'But in the end they had already formed a team, so I obviously did take Frankie's side because it was morally wrong,' Demi said. 'So that is my side, I'm a fair person and I'll always say what's wrong and what's right and in my eyes that wasn't right.' Meanwhile, Chloe told MailOnline that she's 'deeply hurt' by her family's 'heartbreaking' fallout. Chloe quit TOWIE after 12 years and relocated from her beloved Brentwood in Essex to Los Angeles after her family's reality series was signed to OnlyFans channel OFTV. But the 'pressure' of moving overseas and setting up a new life has impacted her close family more than Chloe could have ever imagined, with the TV personality admitting during her darkest days she even threatened to quit Hollywood and fly back home. Chloe revealed the extent of their feud and how she was 'shocked' by her sister's unforgivable remarks, which has left her feeling tense and isolated. She said: 'The show was an incredible opportunity but, in a way, it has come with some downfalls. It has caused a big rift with my sisters. We are not on talking terms today. 'We haven't spoken since they left LA and that would have been in October/November time. I have not seen or spoken to them since so filming series three will be awkward. 'To hear some of the things they said to me was really heartbreaking and I genuinely wasn't expecting it... I was shocked to be honest. 'This is not a comfortable subject for me at all… They are obviously my little sisters but things that have gone down and things that have been said, I'm not going to repeat them, but things have hurt me deeply. 'I find it very difficult to get over things when it's gone too far so I don't know what the future holds but we're locked into another two seasons, and we have to go ahead with it... in the meantime, I'm on my own... but I do have Charlie.'

Olivia Attwood hits out at 'scumbags' who broke into her Cheshire home as she issues update on the burglary

Olivia Attwood has claimed the 'scumbags' who broke into her home were 'tracking the house'. The TV presenter, 34, revealed earlier this week that someone tried to break into her Cheshire home while she was filming a TV project in Spain. And after much concern from her fans on social media, Olivia took to TikTok to answer some of their questions about what was taken and if her dogs were safe. In the clip, the reality star explained that her dogs - Carpathian/German Shepherd mix, Lola, and Rottweiler, Stitch, were not home and so believes they have been tracking her home. Taking to he social media, Olivia said: 'So obviously I can't go into too much detail because it's an open investigation now. 'But some scumbags basically smashed a second-floor window, went in, and the security team got the notification within like 30 seconds, and they were there within two minutes with dogs. 'The little scumbags ran off. They got some stuff but they didn't get what they came for, and now I have to just show face because it's a really important work day and I'm feeling a bit tired and a little bit emosh, but yeah, brave face.' She further explained: 'We weren't there and the dogs weren't there. Obviously, if you know my dogs, the rescue Shepherd and Rottweiler, no one's getting into my house and not getting out unalived if my dogs are in there. 'So these f*****g, like disgusting vermin, were obviously tracking the house, and they obviously went at a time they knew the dogs weren't there, but they didn't know that we had security with a dog team, so they came down so quickly, thank God. 'And it's just a horrible thing; the feeling that someone's been in your house. Even though they didn't take the most valuable things, it's just the feeling. It's so horrible.' Olivia then explained that this was not the first time she had been targeted and had now been burgled three times. 'And we have had that happened to us before in Manchester. It's the third time we've been burgled in different houses up there', she added. 'It's just sad, isn't it? A sad society. But look, life goes on. There's a lot worse things that could happen. So, we keep it moving. 'I like to think I'm a tough gal, but obviously I was awake from like 2am until 6am, and didn't sleep last night because I was on-and-off the phone with police, security team, neighbours. And I was upset and stressed, and I literally just worked. 'That's probably why I look like an ageing rocker. My head's going to hit the pillow tonight, and I'm going to be out. We've got people at the house looking after everything.' Earlier this week, Olivia shared how she 'pays through the nose for private security', who arrived within two minutes to try and apprehend the burglars. Olivia was targetted while out of the country, however her security system seemingly outsmarted the criminals who tried to gain entry to the £1million property. Throughout the night on Wednesday, Olivia shared with her followers that they had experienced an attempted break-in and warned the thieves she had their details. Sharing what had happened, Olivia said: 'That's why we pay through the nose for private security. On site in 2 minutes with dog team and the incredible nw police force not far behind. 'We saw your face, we have your foot prints and finger prints. And sorry what you were looking for isn't actually kept at the property.' Olivia has lived in the home with her footballer husband Bradley Dack and their two dogs, Lola and Stitch, since 2022. The star has shown fans inside her houses since 2020 when she began filming docu-series Olivia Meets Her Match about her relationship and homelife with Brad. This fresh blow comes as Olivia hit back at backlash over her upcoming gig on This Morning after cruel trolls insisted it 'wouldn't work'. Olivia, who is a regular Loose Women panellist, is joining the This Morning team as a summer host in the coming weeks. While she's built a successful career fronting multiple ITV documentaries and reality shows, the news of Olivia's new slot didn't go down a hit with some fans. Traditionalists went as far as threatening they'll 'definitely stop watching' if Olivia joins the morning show. But ITV's golden girl Olivia has assured she is determined to succeed in the new gig and prove the haters wrong. She exclusively told The Sun: 'Those who know me understand the hard work I've put in to get where I am today. 'I'm forever grateful to Love Island for being the springboard to my career, but I'm excited to show there's so much more to me beyond the villa. 'It's been a lot of hard work, but I've always stayed focused on my goals and believed in myself and I'm very thankful for ITV in believing me.' Other stars who are fronting This Morning this summer include Sian Welby, Dermot O'Leary, Emma Willis, Josie Gibson, Rochelle Humes, Joel Dommett, Craig Doyle, and Andi Peters.
