‘Elite' US fast food chain to open new sites across the UK

Metro18-06-2025
When Dave's Hot Chicken opened its doors in London for the first time in December 2024, a massive queue stretched along Shaftesbury Avenue.
The US fast food chain, which was born in Los Angeles, was an instant hit and even six months later, fans are so desperate to get a taste, they continue to wait up to an hour to order.
If you haven't managed to try it yet, you might not have to travel to London to do so, as the fried chicken business is expanding across the UK.
Dave's Hot Chicken (DHC) has confirmed two new major sites will be opening soon in Birmingham and Manchester – with the first to open in a matter of weeks.
Those in Birmingham will be able to try the chain's Nashville Hot Chicken from July when a restaurant opens at 56 New Street.
The new location is inside an iconic Art Deco-style building with a space-themed interior complete with UFO installations, holograms, and graffiti art inspired by renowned L.A. based street artists Splatterhaus and Dehmq.
And following hot on the heels of this, on August 8, Dave's Hot Chicken will open its doors in Macnhester's Printworks.
This site will take its cue from Manchester's warehouse rave scene and feature an industrial interior design, with towering ceilings, exposed steelwork and laser lights. https://www.instagram.com/p/DLCg24loUXL/?hl=en
Speaking about the expansion plans, Jim Attwood, managing director of Dave's Hot Chicken UK, told Metro: 'Birmingham and Manchester are on the up, with food scenes to rival London's. Opening up our next two locations here kicks off our national expansion, and we can't wait to welcome our first fans through the doors.
'Kicking off in July, Birmingham is our first major moment – the first UK site outside London, whilst our new spot in Printworks Manchester is right in the heart of one of the UK's most exciting cities.
'We're taking Dave's Hot Chicken nationwide. Watch this space.'
Metro's Courtney Pochin, gave the chicken chain a try and it was love at first bite.
She said: 'I've only had food from DHC the once, but it easily blows KFC out of the water and that meal was all it took for it to shoot right up there to join Popeyes in the top tier of my fast food rankings.
'The chicken is nice and juicy and the Medium spice level is perfect for those who want food that's full of flavour with a kick of heat. They're big on pickles, which I love, but the best part was hands down the loaded Cinnamon Toast Crunch Shake – that's a drink that dreams are made of.'
DHC brought a number of US favourites over to the UK, with prices starting from £8.
Interestingly, there are just two main chicken items on the menu — tenders and sliders (sandwiches) — which are made using halal certified British chicken. However, they also recently launched chicken bites in London.
To pair with your chicken, there are a range of sides available including fries, pickles, and slaw, and you can also order combinations of these to make for a bigger meal, with four combo options to choose form.
Customers can also personalise their order by selecting a spice level for the dish, with seven different levels to choose from: No Spice, Lite Mild, Mild, Medium, Hot, Extra Hot and The Reaper.
The latter is so hot that anyone who dares to try it has to sign a waiver before they're allowed to tuck into their food.
Alongside this, there are soft drinks such as Coca-Cola, Fanta, and Sprite, and those feeling the heat can cool off with an indulgent top-loaded shake for £4.49. Flavours include chocolate, vanilla or strawberry and these can be topped with Oreo or M&Ms.
Dave's Hot Chicken was founded in East Hollywood back in 2017, when four friends who loved chicken tenders scraped together enough money ($900) to buy a fryer and launch a pop-up business in a car park. More Trending
They began serving Nashville-style hot chicken and soon people were flocking to get a taste, with Drake, Samuel L. Jackson, and Usher all being counted amongst the brand's biggest fans, and investing in the company.
The business was recently named America's Fastest growing Restaurant chain, as it now has 200 restaurants across America.
The chain signed an agreement with Azzurri Group in the UK to open 60 sites across the country, so we can expect to see much more from them.

And if you're still wondering how it tastes, fans on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram have praised the food as 'unreal', 'amazing', 'elite' and a '10/10'.

Kate Middleton forced into Roger Federer intervention and broke Royal protocol with kisses

Kate Middleton forced into Roger Federer intervention and broke Royal protocol with kisses Princess Kate and tennis icon Roger Federer have crossed paths countless times at Wimbledon, capturing the imagination of fans with their meetings on and off the court Roger Federer has formed a close bond with the Middleton family, including the Princess of Wales (Image: Thomas Lovelock - AELTC via Getty Images ) Princess Kate and tennis legend Roger Federer have developed a friendship through their numerous encounters at Wimbledon over the years. As this Swiss icon approaches his third year of retirement, he now joins Her Royal Highness in the stands, rather than entertaining the crowd on the court. She was present to witness him secure a record-breaking eighth men's singles title in 2017, alongside her husband William. ‌ After his triumph over Croatian Marin Cilic, the Prince and Princess of Wales were spotted congratulating Federer. Kate surprised Royal enthusiasts by breaking protocol and giving him three kisses instead of the customary one or two. ‌ One theory suggests it was because in Federer's homeland, it's traditional to greet friends with three pecks. Two years later, Kate returned to SW19 to watch Federer once more. This time, she was offering her sympathies rather than congratulations when presenting him with his runner-up trophy following his five-set thriller against Novak Djokovic. Their 2023 meeting truly captured the public's imagination. By then, Federer had retired from his illustrious career and was attending Centre Court as a dedicated fan for the first time. He arrived to sit next to Kate in the Royal Box for Elena Rybakina's victory over Shelby Rogers, receiving a standing ovation worthy of his iconic status at the All England Club. Article continues below However, the applause went on for so long that Kate had to take charge of the situation. Former British No. 1 and BBC commentator John Lloyd said: "The Princess of Wales had to give him a little nudge and tell him to sit down. It could have been another hour before we even started the match. It was great. Absolutely fantastic." Kate's trio of kisses for Federer broke royal protocol (Image: YouTube/GameJester ) As they enjoyed the match together, Federer was mindful of maintaining decorum, later expressing: "It was so fun sitting next to Princess Catherine. I know her quite well. ‌ "She is an avid tennis fan, and she plays herself. Sometimes we have to be careful we don't speak too much. You can talk, and then it's super quiet, and then you have to applaud." Kate has joined forces with Federer on various tennis-related endeavours, including showcasing the work of Wimbledon's ball boys and girls. She tried her hand at the role, impressively catching a ball without letting it bounce. Federer enjoyed his lengthy chat with tennis enthusiast Kate (Image: Karwai Tang, WireImagevia Getty Images ) Article continues below However, Federer pointed out that she was in fact meant to let it hit the floor first. He told her: "In Australia they would catch it but here in Wimbledon they don't." His ties with the Middleton family go further than just Kate; he previously imparted some tennis wisdom to Prince George on the courts and was in attendance at Pippa Middleton's wedding to James Matthews in 2017, following Pippa's interview with him for Vanity Fair in 2013. Their mum Carole is an especially avid admirer, a fact not lost on the Princess of Wales, who has mentioned: "Roger is my mother's heartthrob. I don't think she will mind me saying that! I think he probably knows that too."

What I Own: We bought our £500,000 Woolwich two-bed before we reached 30

Welcome back to What I Own – Metro's property series where we speak to homeowners about getting on the ladder. When Sashwat and Rupali Bannick first moved to the UK from India in 2022, they knew they wanted to strive towards homeownership. Initially moving to Canary Wharf, the pair spent two-and-a-half years diligently saving for their deposit, and in 2024, they signed the paperwork for their two-bedroom flat in Woolwich. At first, they found applying for a mortgage challenging as they hadn't lived in the UK for long, but they soon landed on a 35-year term that worked. While their home might be considerably over the average UK housing price (currently £268,400), the couple were able to get on the ladder for slightly under the going rate in London. Over the last year, homes in the capital have sold for £668,665 – £168,665 over what Sashwat and Rupali paid. Here's what Sashwat had to say about their property journey… You can access completely fee-free mortgage advice with London & Country (L&C) Mortgages, a partner of Metro. Customers benefit from: – Award winning service from the UK's leading mortgage broker – Expert advisors on hand 7 days a week – Access to 1000s of mortgage deals from across the market Unlike many mortgage brokers, L&C won't charge you a fee for their advice. Find out how much you could borrow online Mortgage service provided by London & Country Mortgages (L&C), which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (registered number: 143002). The FCA does not regulate most Buy to Let mortgages. Your home or property may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage. My name is Sashwat Bannick, I'm 30 years old, and I work as a technology consultant. I live with my wife Rupali, and we are both originally from India. It's great! The Royal Docks offer an exceptional blend of connectivity and lifestyle. Situated just a six-minute walk from Pontoon Dock DLR Station, it takes me approximately 25 minutes to Canary Wharf door to door and Bank in about 35 minutes, facilitating convenient commutes. The proximity to the Thames Barrier Park provides access to green spaces, while nearby Royal Wharf offers a variety of shops, eateries, and recreational facilities. Plus London City Airport is just minutes away, providing domestic and international travel options. While there are several great coffee shops nearby, my personal favourite is a place called Little Hudson. It has a fantastic atmosphere and consistently great coffee. November 22, 2024. £500,000. £50,000. We pay £2,040 per month for the mortgage. Our energy bills vary depending on usage, but on average, we pay between £50 and £60 per month. The heating is between £60 and £70, electricity costs £50, and our water £40. We saved a deposit of £50,000 through regular monthly savings over the last 2.5 years. Our main strategy was setting a fixed amount aside each month as soon as we got paid, treating it like a non-negotiable expense. We also cut back on unnecessary spending, used simple Excel as a tool for regular budgeting to track our progress, and took advantage of Equity ISAs to maximise our savings. For other first-time buyers, we would recommend setting clear savings goals, being disciplined with spending, and exploring Equity ISAs and, to an extent, government schemes that can help boost their deposit. Lifetime Isas, otherwise known as Lisas, can be opened by anyone aged between 28 and 39. This is not the same as an Equity ISA (stocks & shares Isa). Lisas can be used to save up to £4,000 a year, which can either be spent on a first home costing up to £450,000, or for retirement after you hit the age of 60. The state adds a bonus of up to £1,000 per year on top of that, plus you earn interest on whatever you save, and that interest is tax free. You must have had your Lisa for at least a year to be able to use it (and the government bonus) towards your first home. If you use the Lisa to buy a house, you can then keep the account and use it to save money for retirement. But savers making withdrawals for any other reason than buying their first home or saving for later life face a withdrawal charge of 25%. The Lisa is an ISA (Individual Savings Account), and you can only pay up to £20,000 into ISAs in the 2025-26 tax year. Therefore, if you put the maximum of £4,000 into your Lisa, you will only be able to put up to £16,000 into any other ISA accounts. The mortgage application process proved to be quite challenging for us, particularly as we had only been in the country for two-and-a-half years. This relatively short duration significantly limited our lending options, restricting us primarily to institutions such as Halifax and Principality. Our rate is 4.86% and our term is 35 years. Before buying our new home, my wife and I were renting a property near Canary Wharf. We were keen to invest in a place of our own and have more long-term stability. We first discovered Fairview New Homes while exploring properties near Canary Wharf and also hearing from friends. The Silverton immediately caught our attention due to its proximity to key areas we value. We also knew we ideally wanted a new build home because of the peace of mind that comes with a brand-new property – everything is fresh, modern, and built to the latest standards. There's also the added benefit of lower maintenance in the early years and the reassurance of a warranty. Plus, we loved the idea of moving into a home that hadn't been lived in before and being able to make it our own from day one. To make our property feel like home, we focused on creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that reflects our personal style, with nods to our life experiences with a few knick-knacks. We wanted the space to feel contemporary and tranquil but also functional, cosy and practical, so opted for simple grey and white tones and prioritised cosy textiles, such as plush throws and cushions. To add some colour and a connection to nature, we incorporated plants and greenery. Our favourite room is the living room – the heart of our home where we gather with family and friends for quality time together. We love the open layout and comfortable seating as it tends to get everyone chatting in no time! We've hosted movie nights and special occasions in the space, but I enjoy it most for relaxing on a quiet afternoon with a good book. We love the spacious layout and the massive balcony, which provides a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the view. The open-plan living area works really well for our lifestyle, especially since we both work from home. Overall, the space, design and location have really enhanced our work-life balance. When we first moved in, the heating was a slight issue initially, considering many people had not moved into the property, but apart from that, everything has been flawless. If I were to give any advice before buying a first home, I would say: take your time and don't rush the process. It's important to carefully consider not just the price, but also the location, future resale value, and how well the property fits with your long-term goals. More Trending I'd also recommend having a solid budget and a buffer for unexpected expenses. Finally, be sure to thoroughly research the development and the builder's reputation, as this can make a huge difference in the long run. Yes, we plan to stay here long-term and continue to invest in our home as our needs evolve. We've got some potential renovations and landscaping improvements in mind. We're also looking forward to deepening our roots in the community, engaging with local events and building lasting relationships with our neighbours. View More » Ultimately, our goal is to cultivate a home that not only meets our current lifestyle but also adapts to our future aspirations, making it a place where we can thrive for many years to come.
