Georgia football 2025 offensive line preview

The Georgia Bulldogs have rebuilt their offensive line ahead of the 2025 college football season. Four of Georgia's five starting offensive linemen left for the 2025 NFL draft. UGA will be without last season's starting center Jared Wilson, guard Tate Ratledge, guard Dylan Fairchild and tackle Xavier Truss. Despite all the NFL talent, Georgia's offensive line disappointed last season. The Dawgs ran for an average of 124.4 yards per game (second-to-last in the SEC) in 2024. According to Pick Six Previews, Georgia generated the No. 65 run push in the country last year, which is middle of the pack. Georgia has to be more effective rushing the football this fall. In 2024, Georgia allowed 25 sacks (No. 57 (tied) in the nation), which was a considerable drop off after allowing just 13 sacks (No. 8 (tied) in the nation) in 2023. This season sets up to be a bit a more advantageous for the offensive line. Georgia opens the season with Marshall and Austin Peay, so the reloaded unit will have time to gel before playing on the road against Tennessee on Sept. 13. Georgia's schedule is a little bit easier than it was in 2024. UGA plays only three road games, which is very helpful for offensive linemen. Georgia's projected starting offensive line Georgia returns four offensive linemen with at least 20 games of experience. The Bulldogs are hoping to have a bounce back year from redshirt junior offensive tackle Earnest Greene, who battled injuries throughout in 2024. Greene has appeared in 24 games in his Georgia career including 23 starts. Greene is expected to primarily play right tackle after spending most of his career at left tackle. He is UGA's most experienced returning lineman and earned preseason All-SEC honors (third-team). Georgia redshirt junior center Drew Bobo, who is the son of Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, returns and has 20 career appearances for the Bulldogs including two starts. He is projected to start at center. Junior offensive tackle Monroe Freeling is expected to hold down another starting spot for Georgia. Freeling has appeared in 22 career games at UGA including a handful of starts. He struggled at times in 2024, but has the talent and size to excel in a starting role. Freeling missed the spring after having a shoulder surgery. Georgia's last returning offensive lineman with significant experience is senior offensive guard Micah Morris. Morris has played in 33 career games at Georgia including four starts. Morris has previously served as Georgia's fullback in short yardage situations. Morris is projected to start at guard and is a mauler in the run game. UGA also returns redshirt freshman Daniel Calhoun, redshirt sophomore Bo Hughley, redshirt sophomore Jamal Meriweather, redshirt freshman Michael Uini, redshirt freshman Nyier Daniels and sophomore Jahzare Jackson. We project Calhoun, who missed a chunk of time this spring due to a foot injury, to start at offensive guard. Uini and Meriweather are expected to be Calhoun's top competition at right guard. We'll see how the offensive line competition unfolds in fall camp. Redshirt freshman Marques Easley was arrested in the offseason and transferred to Purdue this spring. Jahzare Jackson was recently arrested in July and will likely be suspended at the very least. UCF Knights redshirt freshman offensive lineman Waltclaire Flynn, a former four-star recruit, transferred to Georgia this spring and helps replace Easley. Georgia's freshmen offensive linemen Georgia signed five offensive linemen in the class of 2025 including three-star guard Dontrell Glover, four-star guard/center Cortez Smith, five-star guard/tackle Juan Gaston, four-star tackle Dennis Uzochukwu and three-star guard Mason Short. Smith and Gaston are most likely to earn playing time as true freshmen. Offensive linemen typically don't play as freshmen at UGA, but Georgia lost a lot of contributors this offseason, so there are more paths to playing time for freshmen than usual. Falcon veteran Leonard Floyd says O-Line struggles with first-round pass rusher's play style

The Atlanta Falcons are deep into training camp, and things are starting to get a little chippy—particularly between rookie James Pearce Jr. and the offense. Tensions began to flare on Sunday, when Pearce got into two separate scuffles that didn't reflect well on him. 'Rookie James Pearce Jr. was the main character today. He set off two scrums on back-to-back plays — the first going at it with Ryan Neuzil and Matthew Bergeron (who had some words), and the second with Kaleb McGary,' wrote Adnan Ikic of The Falcoholic. Pearce's draft stock took a slight hit due to some character concerns heading into the draft. However, the Falcons saw something different. After a pre-draft visit with Pearce and his family, the team became confident in who he is as a person. 'In the end, after sitting down with Pearce and a slew of people from his past, the team saw a guy who loves football, is hyper-competitive and has smarts, and the Falcons were willing to bet on Morris's program to help him grow up,' Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer wrote. According to AJC's D. Orlando Ledbetter, Pearce has been getting under the skin of the offensive line—likely because of how disruptive he's been throughout camp. Free-agent signee Leonard Floyd commented on Pearce's intensity, emphasizing his support for the rookie while also acknowledging the tension it creates. Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp 'I try to bring him to the side and help him cool himself down before he gets real crazy with it," Floyd said, via Tori McElhaney. "But he's a good guy, man. He works hard. The linemen just don't like it. But that's a good thing." Pearce has been so impactful at camp—frequently disrupting the quarterback—that he's clearly frustrating the offensive line. But that's football. If the offensive line doesn't like it, the solution is simple: stop him. So far, they haven't figured out how.

49ers top pick lands top-10 spot in rookie Madden ratings

With NFL training camps in full swing, fans are eagerly awaiting the release of this year's installment of EA Sport's Madden series, Madden 26, which is set to come out August 14 on Xbox Series X/S, Windows, PlayStation 5 and the Nintendo Switch 2. At this point in the calendar, the team at EA Sports is starting to release player grades for this year's game, and on Wednesday, they announced the top-10 rookies in Madden 26 at launch. That list included San Francisco 49ers defensive end Mykel Williams, who came in tied for seventh with a 78 overall grade. Joining Williams on the list of the top-10 rookies in EA Sports' Madden 26 are Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter (84 overall), Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty (83 overall), New York Giants defensive end Abdul Carter (81 overall), Cleveland Browns defensive lineman Mason Graham (80 overall), New England Patriots offensive tackle (79 overall), Atlanta Falcons linebacker Jalon Walker (79 overall), Miami Dolphins defensive lineman Kenneth Grant, Denver Broncos cornerback Jahdae Barron (78 overall) and Buffalo Bills cornerback Maxwell Hairston (78 overall). Williams, 21, played collegiately at Georgia from 2022-24, earning All-SEC honors twice and winning a national championship as a freshman. In 40 career games with the Bulldogs, Williams recorded 67 tackles (23 for a loss), 14 sacks, four passes defensed, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. The 49ers took Williams in the first round (No. 11 overall) of this year's draft, and he's expected to be one of the team's starting edge rushers in 2025, opposite five-time Pro Bowler and former Defensive Rookie of the Year Nick Bosa. Through the first week of training camp, Williams is looking like a first-round pick already. According to those in attendance, the Georgia product has been dominating some of his trench battles and has been holding his own against Trent Williams, who's considered one of the best offensive tackles in the NFL.
