Brits reveal top 30 'mic drop' moments: From nailing jokes to mastering tricky skills

Daily Mirror6 days ago
A study of 2,000 UK adults has uncovered Brits' biggest everyday victories, with the majority of people feeling satisfied when they complete a task or get a joke right
A study has pinpointed the little triumphs that Brits cherish most. They range from breezing through a series of green lights to nailing a tricky parallel parking spot. Other cherished moments included cracking a joke at just the right time and waking up naturally before your alarm buzzes. Also featured in the top 30 list was completing a tough crossword or puzzle, and catching something thrown at you without fumbling.

A whopping 80 percent of people will internally celebrate these small victories, whether by grinning to themselves, sharing their success with friends, or even busting out a little victory dance. It turns out, 37 per cent have even received an applause for their so-called 'mic drop' moment.

The research was commissioned by Direct Line Insurance, whose spokesperson Lucy Brooksbank said: "These moments show how great it feels when something in life goes exactly right. That whole euphoric feeling of that mic drop moment, which highlights 'That's how it's done'.
"Whether it is a sharp one-liner that lands at the exact right time, a trick shot into the bin from across the room, or pulling off something unexpectedly slick, these little wins can feel like you have momentarily become the main character in your own movie.
"They might be fleeting, but they leave a lasting impression."
For a third of those who have had such an experience, the buzz can last for hours, and for 21 percent, it can make their entire day.
More than four in 10 (42 per cent) find them extra satisfying when they are unexpected. With three quarters admitting they underestimate how satisfying these small wins can be.
Lucy added: "These moments stick with us because they offer a powerful surge of confidence.

"They make us feel sharper, cooler, more in control - even if just for a few seconds.
"And when someone else witnesses it? That is just the cherry on top."

Normal-looking bungalow hits market for £200,000 – but buyers are baffled by bizarre kitchen feature

Secret passageway behind a bookcase adds even more mystery to the home MUM'S THE WORD Normal-looking bungalow hits market for £200,000 – but buyers are baffled by bizarre kitchen feature Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A NORMAL-looking bungalow has gone viral after baffled house-hunters spotted one very unexpected detail lurking inside. The home, located in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, was originally listed for £200,000—but it wasn't the price that had people doing double takes. TikToker @ellesehome shared a clip of the quirky property, captioning it: 'Whose Nan's house is this and why has she got Tutankhamuns tomb in the kitchen???' Images from the listing showed golden statues, hieroglyphs, ancient-style murals and even a sarcophagus-style cabinet that had people flooding the comments section in disbelief. One user wrote: 'When I start playing Animal Crossing and put the random gifts my villagers give me in my house to fill space.' Another questioned: 'Better question where's the fridge?' A third chimed in: 'The most shocking part is the house's price.' Someone else cheekily defended the design: 'God forbid a woman likes a bit of archaeology.' Despite the eccentric interior, the home eventually sold for £145,000. But this isn't the only property recently to leave Brits scratching their heads. In Rhyl, a perfectly normal-looking terraced house turned heads with an unexpected interior twist, featuring secret design elements that left even estate agents stunned. Meanwhile in West Lothian, a home dubbed 'Britain's darkest house' hit the market for £195,000. The entire property — walls, floors, ceilings, doors, decking and even the shed — was painted black, both inside and out. Then there's the skinny slice of living in west London, one of the UK's narrowest homes, squeezed between a clinic and salon. The five-storey property was recently listed for rent at £2,950 a month, despite only being just over six feet wide in places. Over in Hastings, a Victorian house gave house-hunters the creeps with its gothic interior. Priced at nearly £900,000, it featured eerie green walls, faun statues lifting children carved into fireplaces, and thunderbox toilets. And if you fancy going completely off the grid, you could head to Kinver Edge in Staffordshire, where homes are literally carved into sandstone cliffs. These cave dwellings, once fully inhabited, are now a National Trust attraction — though they're a reminder that the UK has long had a love affair with unusual homes. 6 A sarcophagus-style cabinet especially stunned viewers, sparking disbelief in the comments Credit: TikTok/housinghorrors2.0/Burchell Edwards 6 Golden statues, hieroglyphs, and ancient-style murals gave the home a museum-like feel Credit: TikTok/housinghorrors2.0/Burchell Edwards 6 But this isn't the only property recently to leave Brits scratching their heads Credit: TikTok/housinghorrors2.0/Burchell Edwards 6 This Stoke-on-Trent home was listed for £200,000 Credit: Google maps

It comes at the perfect time when families struggle for ideas during the holidays TV TREAT Millions of Sky and Fire TV Stick users receive free upgrade this month to keep the kids entertained over the holidays Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A NEW addition for Sky and Fire TV Stick users will get everyone in the family moving. Customers of the Amazon TV extension and subscribers to Sky will now get access to a free upgrade which comes just in time for the summer holidays. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 3 The new Mvmnt Family platform will be available to millions of Brits this summer Credit: Amazon & Sky 3 The exercise programs will be available on Fire TV Sticks and Google TV Credit: Alamy The UK-based digital fitness platform, Mvmnt, has now launched Mvmnt Family which is designed to help families to get active together with short videos that everyone can follow. Mvmnt is offering new customers to its app an one-month free trial throughout August. That will also include access to the Mvmnt Family workouts for the entire school holidays, online and on TV including via Sky, Amazon Fire, and Google TV. All of the Mvmnt Family programs are very user friendly each workout runs for less than 10 minutes and no equipment is needed. What's even better is the sessions are led by a coach and child exercising side-by-side on screen so that everyone feels comfortable getting involved. There's also plenty of sessions to choose from including strength, yoga, HIIT, football and balance. The Mvmnt Family programs were designed to help parents rethink exercise as a family activity. Family Moving Time The new launch comes as research reveals that almost 50 percent of parents run out of ideas for school holidays entertainment, and that only 27 percent of families do something active together just once a week or less. Many parents said they wanted to be more active with their kids but are worried how much it will cost them, and other parents say there never seems to be enough time to get moving with family during school holidays. 'Families are an underserved segment in the digital fitness space,' said Colin Griffith, Managing Director at Mvmnt. Quick look at Fire TV Stick remote and top button tips 'We saw an opportunity to support parents who are time-poor, stressed, and want a shared active experience that benefits everyone in the house – not just the kids.' Be Warned The free upgrade comes after Fire TV Stick users were warned about illegal streaming devices, including dodgy versions of the TV extension. The Federation Against Copyright Theft warned this could lead to users having their ID stolen or their credit card details handed to criminals. Posts have begun flooding social media sites advertising modified Fire Sticks for just a few pounds. Some posts advertised all Sky channels plus streaming sites such as Netflix and Disney Plus for as little as £2.50 a month. Kieron Sharp, chairman of the Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT) said dodgy Fire Stick users are breaking the law too, and could end up being prosecuted. According to FACT, watching an illegal stream is an offence under the Fraud Act 2006, and has a maximum penalty of five years in prison.

Discontinued chocolate bars Brits miss the most ranked

From Cadburys to Nestlé and Mars, there's no denying that we're a sweet-toothed nation. From the crunchy honeycomb centre of a Malteser to the gooey caramel of a classic Mars, everyone's got a favourite chocolate bar. Most of us will also link our favourite chocolate to memorable moments such as school days or that walk home from our first job. So, when they disappear from the shelves, we wait longingly for a comeback. Now, a survey by a brand that is part of Smooth Radio has revealed the nation's top ten most-loved bars that Brits would like to see return. The discontinued chocolate bar Brits want to return Surveying 2,000 people across the UK, the results found that the minty twist on the classic Wispa bar came out on top, with more than one in five (22%) naming it as the chocolate they'd most like to see return. A member of the Wispa family, the mint version first hit shelves in 1995 but was sadly discontinued in 2003 - much to the frustration of chocolate lovers. Kit Kat Caramac, which was discontinued two years ago after 64 years due to declining sales, came in joint second with 20% of the vote. Milky Way Crispy Rolls, pulled from production by Mars in 2022, also tied for second place. White chocolate fans were left disappointed when Cadbury Dream was discontinued in the UK over two decades ago - and it seems they still miss it, as nearly one in five (18%) named it their preferred discontinued treat. Known for its rich milk chocolate combined with smooth white chocolate, Cadbury Marble followed close behind with 16% of the vote. It was discontinued in 2012, while Orange Crunchie - which featured a tangy orange-flavoured honeycomb centre - placed alongside it. Rounding out the top five were other nostalgic favourites like Mars Delight, Cadbury Aztec, SnowFlakes, Quality Street Toffee Deluxe, and Mint Crunchie, each earning 13% of the vote.
