OPEC+ set to make another accelerated oil output hike on Saturday, sources say
LONDON, July 4 (Reuters) - Eight OPEC+ countries are likely to make another accelerated oil output increase for August at a meeting on Saturday, sources from the producer group told Reuters, as they seek to regain market share. The group, which includes Saudi Arabia, Russia, the UAE, Kuwait, Oman, Iraq, Kazakhstan and Algeria, is expected to agree to an increase of 411,000 barrels per day for August, several sources told Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity. If agreed, OPEC+ would have increased supply targets by about 1.78 million bpd, or 1.5% of global oil consumption. Actual increases, however, have been lower as some members deliver cuts to compensate for past overproduction. On Friday, the group decided to bring the meeting date forward by one day, the sources said. One of them said it was not yet clear if 411,000 bpd would be the final agreement. OPEC+ made a radical change in policy this year, after several years of output cuts totalling more than 5 million bpd. This came when the eight members started to unwind their most recent output cut of 2.2 million bpd starting in April and accelerated the hikes in May, June and July, despite the extra supply weighing on crude prices. The acceleration came after some members, such as Kazakhstan, produced way over their targets, angering other members that were sticking more closely to agreed cuts. Kazakh output returned to growth last month and matched an all-time high, as the Chevron-led (CVX.N), opens new tab Tengiz field ramped up, a source familiar with the data told Reuters this week. OPEC+, which groups the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and allies led by Russia, is looking to expand its market share against the backdrop of growing supplies from other producers like the United States. The group pumps about half of the world's oil. As of their decision for July output, the OPEC+ eight have made or announced production increases of 1.37 million bpd. This is 62% of the production cut of 2.2 million bpd that they are unwinding.

The Brit faces the championship favourite and will be looking to produce something similar to what we saw in the last round. The 22-year-old produced her best ever performance - according to herself - when she beat Marketa Vondrousova on day three which shined a light on a difficult day for British tennis at SW19. After beating the 2023 champion in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, many would have left the famous lawn courts feeling they have just witnessed the promise of the young Brit which we have not seen since she famously won the US Open in 2021. Determined to continue on this feat, Raducanu appears to be relishing the challenge ahead of her. After dismissing claims she is unlucky in her draw to face the Belarusian tennis player, the former Grand Slam champion stated she "wants to play the best". The two players have met only once in their careers which happened last spring in Indian Wells in a match where Sabalenka won in straight sets on her favoured court but Raducanu still left her mark on the game despite the result. Home advantage may not be enough for her though, as Wimbledon crowds can be a funny one. While they love a good homegrown story such as Raducanu, they love the sport more. We have seen it in the past where the crowd show a lot of respect to opponents against any British players despite the vocal support for one of their own. Sabalenka has always left a solid impression on the Wimbledon crowd and if she finds her footing then Raducanu could soon feel like she needs to work harder, not smarter, to win over the crowd. This will be the battle of wits if Raducanu is to come out of this with a win over three sets. Raducanu cannot go through the motions of the match in order to feel control and gather momentum in the match - she needs to attack hard to stop Sabalenka's gameplan. The Belarusian is world number one for a reason, she is one of the most dominant WTA players on the tour right now with a powerful serve and a solid baseline game that is incredibly favourable on the lawn courts so Raducanu must respond in kind. Her performance last round shows the attacking approach worked with no double faults, 36 receiving points and four break points shows that approach works best in order for the Canadian-born Brit to secure back-to-back fourth round appearances at SW19.
