'Not up to standard': Blues' leaders called on to lift
A fierce blowtorch has descended on Carlton and coach Michael Voss amid a four-match losing streak that has dashed their finals hopes.
It shows no signs of abating ahead of Saturday night's MCG clash with Melbourne, which is the 10th annual Carlton Respects game.
"You succeed in front of millions and you fail in front of millions, and that's just the reality of the job," Weitering said at the MCG on Monday.
"At the moment as leaders we're probably not playing to the standard that we want to play to.
"When your leaders don't lead it's very hard to ask the younger crop to come up and do a job.
"We've got six weeks now to find a purpose. Winning is obvious, but how can we get the most out of the back end of this year to set us up for next year?"
Voss was the subject of a death threat this month, just days after Carlton's headquarters was tagged with graffiti calling for the club's board to be sacked.
The 50-year-old has been guaranteed his job is safe until at least the end of the season, but he is no certainty to see out the final year of his contract.
"The No.1 thing for us is just making sure Vossy's OK," Weitering said.
"We've got his back. He'll continue coaching us for the rest of the year.
"He's put on an incredibly brave face and he's done that the entire time that he's coached us."
Weitering signed a six-year contract extension with Carlton in October but is unsure whether Tom De Koning will follow suit, as the ruck-forward considers a massive offer from St Kilda.
"That's something that he'll do in his own time with his manager and his family," Weitering said.
"He's certainly got to weigh up his options and do what's best for him.
"But his job - and I'm sure he'll say the same - is to run out in the navy blue for the (next) six weeks and try to get some wins for us."
Weitering highlighted Carlton's defensive woes as a problem area that needs to be immediately addressed after coughing up triple-figure scores in each of their past three games.
"You're just not going to win games of football doing that," he said.
"We're not throwing away our identity, but we've certainly gone away from it over the last three weeks.
"You win games off the back of defence and pressure, and we haven't been able to do that consistently ... it has been disappointing for sure."
Carlton Respects is an initiative of the club that aims to champion respect, equality and meaningful change.
At the MCG on Monday, four primary school students who completed Carlton's Road to Respect Program were presented with a special guernsey to officially kick off the week in the lead-up to the clash with Melbourne.

Netball champ Jamie-Lee Price quits Giants to join AFL star partner in Melbourne
The Giants have announced superstar midcourter Jamie-Lee Price is departing the club with a year left on her contract. The move had been widely expected, with Price intending to relocate to Melbourne to be with her partner, current AFL player Harry Perryman. Watch every game of the 2025 Suncorp Super Netball season, LIVE on Kayo. New to Kayo? Join now and get your first month for just $1. Perryman began his AFL career at the GWS Giants and joined Collingwood this season on a six-year deal reportedly worth $900,000 per season. Price is a key player in the Australian Diamonds team, winning the 2023 Netball World Cup, and has become renowned for her physicality and strength in aerial contests throughout her career. Price was a foundation player with the Giants, signing with the Sydney-based team when she joined the Super Netball competition in 2017, continuing her relationship with coach Julie Fitzgerald from their time in New Zealand. In a statement the Giants said: 'Over her nine seasons in orange, she became a cornerstone of the club's identity, known for her toughness, consistency, and leadership on and off the court.' 'Jamie-Lee has played a significant role in the growth and success of the Giants since inception and we thank her for her contributions over the past nine seasons,' Mr Underwood said. 'While we're naturally disappointed to see her go, we understand and respect her decision to prioritise her personal life and wish her the best in this next chapter.' The Giants missed finals this season and will undergo a period of change this off-season — longserving coach Fitzgerald has announced her retirement, as has veteran goal shooter Jo Harten. Speaking on Netball Australia's 'Uncovered' earlier this year, Price had flagged a move to Melbourne. 'I guess for me, it's just a matter of when I go to Melbourne,' she said. 'I think I'm going to be there eventually. 'I don't like the long distance (relationship) – obviously I'm able to live by myself and we are very independent in so many ways but it's always nice to have that person that you have lived with to be able to go home to. 'I think knowing that you only get so much time to play professionally, it is so small in your life or your career. 'We acknowledged that it's not going to be forever – we need to enjoy it while we can.' Following Price's departure, the club currently has Sophie Dwyer, Erin O'Brien, Jodi-Ann Ward and Hope White on contract for next season. It remains to be seen if Price will join the Melbourne Vixens or Melbourne Mavericks as she continues her Super Netball career. The Vixens have a strong team but lost Liz Watson to the Sunshine Coast Lightning two seasons ago, while Price could reunite with former Giants teammate Amy Parmenter if she heads to the Mavericks. The NSW Swifts take on the Melbourne Vixens at Qudos Bank Arena on Saturday at 2pm AEST for a spot in the Super Netball Grand Final against the West Coast Fever.

Wallabies announce team for British and Irish Lions second Test
The Wallabies have brought back two star players to reinforce their forward pack with muscle. Follow the British and Irish Lions tour of Australia on ABC Sport, including live blogs of all three Tests against the Wallabies. The Wallabies must win in Melbourne to keep the series alive after the Lions' 27-19 triumph in Brisbane last Saturday. Harry Wilson will captain the Wallabies in Melbourne, just as he did in the first Test in Brisbane. Despite Australia struggling to mount an attack for most of the match, coach Joe Schmidt has named an unchanged backline for Saturday's second Test. 'The squad has recovered well after a very physical first Test and the week's preparation here in Melbourne has allowed us a bit more time together," Schmidt said. 'We took some confidence from the second half last week, but we know we'll need to improve further against a Lions team that will bring plenty of fire to the contest on Saturday night.' 1. Return of Rob Valetini and Will Skelton among three changes to Wallabies forward pack for clash with British and Irish Lions
Imposing duo Rob Valetini and Will Skelton are part of a revamped Wallabies forward pack for Saturday night's must-win clash against the British and Irish Lions at the MCG. The powerful pair, who missed Australia's first Test 27-19 loss to the Lions at Suncorp Stadium last weekend because of calf injuries, replace flanker Nick Champion de Crespigny and lock Jeremy Williams in two of the three changes to the Wallabies' pack. The other change is at hooker, where the fit-again David Porecki comes in for Matt Faessler. While Williams has at least been retained on the bench, Champion de Crespigny and Faessler have missed out entirely on the 23-man squad. The addition of Valetini and Skelton will give the Wallabies more of the physical presence needed to combat the intimidating Lions forwards in a game Australia need to win to keep the three-Test series alive. 'The squad has recovered well after a very physical first Test and the week's preparation here in Melbourne has allowed us a bit more time together,' Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt said. 'We took some confidence from the second-half last week, but we know we'll need to improve further against a Lions team that will bring plenty of fire to the contest on Saturday night.' Schmidt has retained the same starting backline, with Jake Gordon to again partner Tom Lynagh in the halves, despite Tate McDermott's strong claims to replace Gordon in the No.9 jersey after his strong first Test performance off the bench. There are two changes to Australia's bench, with the demoted Williams and Langi Gleeson replacing Tom Hooper and Andrew Kellaway. Wallabies team to play British and Irish Lions at MCG 1.
