Calandagan not certain to take Juddmonte International chance
Calandagan found only City Of Troy too strong in the Juddmonte International last summer – but while Graffard is not ruling out a return to the Knavesmire, he feels his stable star will need a break at some stage if he is to head abroad in the latter part of 2025.

'He came back yesterday (Sunday) lunchtime and ate everything. He lost 13 kilos, which is normal, and he was at the track this morning and seems fine,' the trainer told Sky Sports Racing.
'It (Juddmonte International) is in the back of my head and he is entered. I think that would be great for the sport if he can go there, (but) he showed that a mile and a half on good ground is what he really likes and where he's very efficient.
'I have to discuss it with the Princess (Zahra, who leads the management team of the Aga Khan Studs) and I haven't been in touch with her since (Saturday). He has big targets in Japan, Hong Kong, the Breeders' Cup and Dubai, so I can't keep him going non-stop and will probably have to stop at one stage.
'I have to discuss it with the Princess, but at the moment I am probably going to go for a break with him.'
Graffard has a second Aga Khan-owned Juddmonte International entry in the form of Daryz, who was last seen stretching his unbeaten record to four in the Group Two Prix Eugene Adam.
When asked whether he was a possible contender for the York feature, Graffard added: 'He is, again that would be a discussion I need to have with the Princess.
'He's a very nice prospect, Daryz, I really like the horse, but is he ready to go into a race like the Juddmonte International against these very strong horses? It's a big question mark.
'If he doesn't go to York, he can go the classic French way of the Prix Niel and the Arc.'
Graffard also confirmed the Prix de la Foret as a likely target for French Guineas heroine and Coronation Stakes runner-up Zarigana, while Prix Jean Prat victor Woodshauna is being aimed at the Prix Maurice de Gheest ahead of a possible trip to Haydock for the Sprint Cup in September.

As well as losing one of their key players after just one season at the club, supporters feel the £12m fee paid by Chelsea was suspiciously low. When you look at the cost of the Amougou deals, you can see their point. Overall, the sense is that as soon as a player does well at Strasbourg, he will be moved to Chelsea to play in the first team or to be sold if he doesn't make the grade. Reports emerged last week that the Blues were close to agreeing personal terms with Strasbourg striker Emanuel Emegha, ahead of a proposed transfer to Stamford Bridge next summer. You wonder whether any other clubs will be allowed to challenge Chelsea in the bidding for Emegha, who was the Ligue 1 club's top scorer last season. Alexandre Hummel, spokesperson for the Strasbourg Supporters' Club, said: 'With the Sarr move, we are not being allowed to sell in a free market to the highest-bidding team. 'WIth that situation, with Penders and Petrovic, even with the coach who is coming, this is the way that a feeder team is run in US sport. 'Everything is done for the benefit of Chelsea.' BlueCo - the consortium of US-based trio Clearlake Capital, Todd Boehly and Mark Walter, plus Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss - bought a controlling stake in Strasbourg in June 2023, a year after completing their takeover of Chelsea. The French club was always going to be the junior partner in the set-up, just as happens in other multi-club ownership structures like the City Football Group which controls Manchester City and a portfolio of other clubs. But Strasbourg have finished higher in the league in each season of BlueCo ownership and in 2025/6 will enjoy their first proper campaign of European football for 20 years. So it's tempting to ask: what's the problem? Everyone's a winner. And the majority of Strasbourg fans seem to feel that way, for now at least. The multi-club ownership system is not part of the tradition of European football. Alexandre Hummel Hummel, 43, and a Strasbourg fan for 35 years, said: 'I would say that 60 or 70% of people are either non-sensitive to the question or just happy to have good results on the pitch. 'But the organised supporters' groups do not agree with the fact that Strasbourg is being used basically as a reserve team or an U23 team for Chelsea. 'It means our club is no longer independent and no matter what the sporting results on the field are, we feel very bad about that because we value independence. 'The multi-club ownership system is not part of the tradition of European football. 'We have a rich history between the local regional identity and the football club. 'That doesn't fit with having your club being used as some kind of subsidiary to a big empire which is owned by private equity firms in the US. 'There's a lot of arrogance in that. If it was us Europeans telling them how to run the NBA or the NFL, they would laugh at us. 'The French league could become a feeder league and French football would die because of that.' On top of all the comings and goings between Stamford Bridge and the Stade de la Meinau, Strasbourg have also sold homegrown star midfielder to Sunderland for £30m this summer. Some of those happy with the current situation could change their tune if results deteriorate after the core of last season's successful team has been moved on. But as Hummel admits, people from Strasbourg and the wider Alsace region are renowned for being calm and sensible. The BlueCo bosses would have a much harder time if they tried to pull the same trick in Marseille or Naples. Smartly away in the hands of Jason Hart, the five-year-old was towards the main group that raced on the far side of the track from the start and showed a willing attitude when the challengers attempted to reel him late on to prevail by a neck. She's Quality filled the runner-up spot for her fourth race in succession, with Commonwealth Cup victor Time For Sandals half a length further behind in third. 'He probably loves fast ground but he's versatile and is a horse that gives his all, while he's a lot stronger this year. 'In the paddock he was walking round like an old pro. These opportunities don't come around all that often, and when you have a day like this it's massive.' An appearance closer to home is next on Jm Jungle's agenda, with a tilt at Group One glory in the Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe Stakes on August 22 – a race also won by Highfield Princess in 2022 – looming large. 'Jason said early in the season that the race he would love to ride him in would be the Nunthorpe, simply because of how fast they go and how much he likes York,' Quinn added. 'That looks the natural next step because he is a Group Two winner now, so you want to be going up from there, and we put him in the Abbaye earlier in the week and that's a similar race. You get a good draw up the rail and you see how much speed he has – he'd be in that van early doors. 'It was easier watching Highfield Princess because she never looked like getting beat. I was hoping, willing for the line to come in the last furlong today but it did and he toughed it out. The second came to him and I think he went again.'
