Texas lawmakers warned of "credible threat" ahead of "No Kings" protest in Austin
The Texas State Capitol and grounds were evacuated at 1 p.m. local time Saturday due to the threat and remain temporarily closed. Texas DPS said that the evacuation was out of an abundance of caution. No further details were provided.
"Just today, a credible threat was made to possibly kill members of the Texas Legislature at the Capitol," Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said in a post on X. "Death threats are sadly a part of serving in public life today."
Patrick called on the public to remain cautious and to "heed the warning of the Texas DPS until the threat is no longer active."
The protest at the Texas Capitol was scheduled for 5 p.m., according to the "No Kings" website. It was not immediately clear if the event would continue.
While such threats are not often discussed, Patrick said the state handles many each month. He noted that most come from individuals who "go too far in their emails or calls," and that they frequently retract their statements when confronted, insisting they didn't intend harm. Still, he stressed that "all have to be taken seriously."
Patrick highlighted the need to differentiate between acceptable discourse and unlawful threats.
"There's a difference between free speech complaints, which we welcome, and making death threats," Patrick said in his statement. "The latter can be a crime."
Minnesota lawmakers targeted
The bulletin to legislators also mentioned the targeted attacks against two lawmakers in Minnesota. State Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband were killed, and state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife were wounded in politically-motivated shootings overnight, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said Saturday morning.
A manhunt is underway for the suspect, who remains at large.
"Currently, it seems to be an isolated incident. However, we're always concerned about copycats and those who this attack might inspire. Your safety is our top priority, and we are taking all necessary precautions to address any potential threats," the bulletin said.
"What happened today in Minnesota was an absolute criminal act and a tragic loss of life," Patrick said in his statement. "Our prayers go out to those in Minnesota."

'His biggest supporters may have been the difference in the election, and he turned on them. He has zero loyalty,' Newsom said. The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that Bondi informed Trump in May that his name was in the files related to Epstein's case. 'He's part of this cover up, and he has confused even the most ardent observers here. I mean, you can't — the guy's a pretzel on this issue. Every hour, he contradicts a statement,' Newsom told Cohen. This week, Trump's former criminal defense attorney, now Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, met with Epstein's co-conspirator and convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell. 3 charged in armed South Side kidnapping of 2-year-old girl to remain in jail
Three people are facing several charges in the kidnapping of a two-year-old girl who was found safe earlier this week. Prosecutors said the child's mother kidnapped her from her grandmother's house at gunpoint, with the help of two armed men. All three appeared together in front of a judge Saturday afternoon. The judge said the child's mother is the mastermind in what he called a kidnapping scheme that involved guns, death threats, and even leveraging her child's location for her own release. In court, prosecutors said 22-year-old Angelique Mobley and 33-year-old Lamon Weathers were dating during the kidnapping. They said Mobley and Weathers, 27-year-old Matthew Price, and another unknown person somehow gained access to the 2-year-old's grandmother's building near 48th Street and Michigan Wednesday morning. The judge said they had cased the building before forcing their way in and threatening the child's great uncle and girlfriend at gunpoint before taking off with the grandmother's purse, keys, and car. Mobley was armed with a wrench while Weathers and Price had guns. The crew told police they ditched the grandmother's car before returning to their own car and taking off with Mobley's 2-year-old daughter. Prosecutors say they dropped the little girl off with a relative of Weathers in Danville, Illinois. After a quick Google search, the relative saw a news story about the missing child and called the police, which led to her rescue. Police caught up with Mobley and Weathers. Prosecutors said that's when Mobley told police she would tell them where her baby was if they let her go. The state also pointed to a Facebook live by Mobley in which she said she was going to take her child back from the grandmother. The judge expressed concerns about the background of the three. Mobley has two pending retail theft charges. Price, who said he's a full-time babysitter with a battery and gun arrest. And weathers, who was arrested in a security uniform and says he's an associate pastor, has seven felony convictions, including an aggravated assault charge he just pleaded guilty to earlier this month. On top of a kidnapping charge for all three, Mobley is facing residential burglary. Weathers and Price are charged with home invasion with a firearm. Price is also facing a stolen vehicle charge. All three were ordered to remain in jail. The judge said that Mobley, the child's mother, could expect a possible fourth charge of home invasion. They're all expected back in court later this week. It's unclear if the fourth person involved has been identified or arrested by police.

Teen arrested after 4 vehicle fires at 2 auto body shops on Detroit's west side
A 13-year-old boy is in custody after police on Detroit's west side found four vehicles that were damaged by fires at two different auto collision shops early Saturday, according to police. Officers were on patrol in the area of Greenfield and Schoolcraft roads around 1 a.m. when they noticed a fire at one of the collision shops. Police arrested the boy after speaking to a citizen and reviewing surveillance footage from a nearby business. He was taken into custody after attempting to run from the scene. City officials and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating the fires. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-773-2587 or the Detroit Police Department at 313-267-4600. Police are asking parents in Detroit to make sure kids are following the city code regarding curfews. Anyone 15 years old or younger needs to be off city streets by 10 p.m., and anyone between the ages of 16 and 17 by 11 p.m., officials said. Parents of kids who violate the code will be given a citation. "We understand, I understand as a father, it's not easy knowing where your kid is at all times," Captain Marcus Thirkill with the Detroit Police Department said, "but we're really asking parents to hone in, to know the location of your kids after curfew hours." Earlier this month, CBS News Detroit learned Mayor Mike Duggan's office wants to increase the amount of money parents are fined if their child is arrested. Right now, a first-time offense only carries a fine of $75. If approved by City Council, Duggan wants to increase that amount to $250.
