Now approaching a decade on the BBC show, Jacob has become a mainstay character.
Charles recently recalled the aftermath of his sister's unexpected death.
His sibling passed away three years ago - just days before Charles had been due to head home from filming.
He told The Mirror: "In my insane mind, I thought I could get through those two days. I really thought I would."
Charles explained how "it was still very raw" mentally and that he had been "very subdued" upon getting to work.
Continuing, Charles shared: "Someone asked me 'Are you ok?' in my dressing room and of course, I wasn't.
"They were kind enough to let me go home. But it's the that same thing of despite what's going on, the challenges, being able to put that to the side and deliver a performance, play the scene, play what's required for the character to tell his story - that's the biggest challenge."
Last year, the actor addressed his real-life tragedy amid a BBC storyline.
He told the Express: "There is an element of definitely contrition on Jacob's part.
"He feels he could have done more, he could have done better."

Charles added: "I know that feeling myself in a way. I remember when my sister passed, and I remember feeling in my heart, I wish I could have done more."
Before joining Casualty, Charles starred in EastEnders as Ray Dixon - a former love interest to Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer).
The character was introduced as the estranged father of Bianca's son, Morgan Butcher (Devon Higgs).
Ray notably featured in the "Who's Been Sleeping with Kat?" - where he and four other men were suspected of having an affair with Kat Moon.
However, Ray was the first suspect to be ruled out - with the mystery man later unmasked as Derek Branning (Jamie Foreman).
In 2018, he was among the famous faces participating in Strictly Come Dancing.
Partnered with Karen Clifton, Charles finished sixth overall in the series.
Casualty airs on BBC One and iPlayer.

Mrs Browns Boys returning to the BBC after controversy

The fifth series of the comedy programme is now only weeks away and is returning despite the creator apologising for a racial slur. Teasing the new show, the corporation said: "Agnes Brown and the gang from Finglas are back! "Everyone's favourite Irish Mammy returns for a brand new fifth series featuring all your favourite characters, so get ready for more slapstick shenanigans this spring!" A post shared by Mrs. Browns Boys Official (@ According to The Sun, the BBC's head of comedy, Jon Petrie, added: "Brendan has created an iconic comedy character in Agnes Brown. "Mrs. Brown's Boys is a BAFTA-winning comedy show and one of the BBC's most-watched comedies ever. I'm proud to have it in the BBC Comedy stable." Mrs Brown's Boys will return to UK telly on Friday, August 1 at 9:30pm on BBC One. Despite this popularity, many are not so keen on the show, with one person penning: "The worst show I've ever seen. It's ghastly, and thankfully, no one I know likes it, because if they did, then I'd disown them. UTTER GARBAGE." Another said: "Quite possibly the worst thing I've ever watched in my life. "For something that is labelled as a comedy, it is incredibly unfunny. "The entire premise of this show is woefully outdated, predictable, cringe inducing, with an annoyingly overactive audience. "Of all genres, comedy is probably the most diverse in terms of its audience reception, but if 1920s-style slapstick is your jam, this will probably tick a box for you." However, with a rating of 7.1/10 on IMDb, most enjoy the programme. A post shared by Mrs. Browns Boys Official (@ One person wrote: "Some of the funniest slapstick I have seen in years. The live audience and the accidentals (on-stage flubs) only serve to make what is already hilariously funny, even funnier." Another added: "Love this series. I can't stop watching it. Terrific cast, fantastic humour. I never want the show to end. So much craziness in the world today, so much to worry about, but this show takes you away from it. Brilliant, Mr. O'Carroll." A third fan said: "So glad I stumbled upon this show through a friend. It has to be the funniest show I've ever seen!"

Gregg Wallace complainant 'feels sorry' for him and slams John Torode

Radio presenter Aasmah Mir has opened up about her experience on Celebrity MasterChef after complaining about Gregg Wallace's language, admitting that she feels 'sorry' for him. A contestant who appeared on Celebrity MasterChef has revealed that she "feels sorry" for Gregg Wallace after complaining about his language on the BBC show's set. ‌ Aasmah Mir took part in the show back in 2017 and later complained to the show after Gregg Wallace allegedly referred to a BBC colleague as a "sexy b***h". ‌ Last week, Gregg was fired by Banijay after a report found that 45 out of 83 allegations of inappropriate behaviour were upheld following a seven-month probe into his behaviour, reports the Mirror. ‌ Speaking to Good Morning Britain today, Aasmah opened up about her "uncomfortable experience" with him - but revealed that she feels sorry for the axed presenter. She said: "I feel sorry for him, I do feel sorry for Gregg Wallace because of the neurodivergence, which is quite obvious here. "But someone - the production company - should have stepped in earlier and said, 'this is not acceptable.' We wouldn't have the mess we have today." Aasmah shared Gregg's alleged comment to her last year when he stepped down from hosting MasterChef during the investigation into his behaviour. Speaking about how she felt at the time, Aasmah said on GMB today: "It's not the worst thing in the world, no one has died but it was an uncomfortable experience. "I remember feeling destabilised and I remember my cheeks were burning because I was thinking, 'What happened there?'" ‌ She added that John Torode did not react to Gregg's comment. "No one said anything. Both Gregg Wallace and John Torode looked completely blank, poker face. Like nothing had happened." "I don't know how many of the substantiated allegations he witnessed so I can only talk about my own, but all I know is Gregg Wallace used an incredibly inappropriate term and John Torode didn't do anything. There was no emotion. "That could be because it was 2017, it had been going on since 2005 - the programme. Maybe he'd just become used to it? You would expect some emotion on his face perhaps but maybe he was just used to it and that's not his fault necessarily. It's Gregg Wallace's for putting him in that position." ‌ Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today. Earlier this week, John Torode was sacked from MasterChef after Lewis Silkin's report into Gregg Wallace's behaviour upheld an allegation against him of using racist language. While John denied the allegation, the BBC said that it takes the finding "extremely seriously", adding: "We will not tolerate racist language of any kind and, as we have already said, we told Banijay UK, the makers of MasterChef, that action must be taken. John Torode's contract on MasterChef will not be renewed." John - who said he had "no recollection" of the incident happening - is preparing to take legal action against the BBC. A source told The Mirror: "He wants to pursue them for unfair dismissal. He's telling people there is no proof of his supposed comment. It was not in a work capacity, it was just hearsay. John is determined to clear his name."

The band, which has existed since 1966, have released a statement explaining that they were 'trusting their instincts' by not going forward with the 31-date tour, which was set to start in Bethel, New York on August 15th. The message read: 'Dear Steve Miller Band fans, You make music with your instincts, You live your life by your instincts. Always trust your instincts. 'The Steve Miller Band has cancelled all of our upcoming tour dates. 'The combination of extreme heat, unpredictable flooding, tornadoes, hurricanes and massive forest fires make these risks for you, our audience, the band and the crew unacceptable. 'So… You can blame it on the tour is cancelled.' 'Don't know where, don't know when… We hope to see you all again,' the message concluded. 'Wishing you all Peace, Love and Happiness, Please take care of each other.' But fans weren't pleased with their reasoning, with one writing: 'Are you serious? I'm a big fan and got tickets for this tour , but next time please find a [better] excuse.' While another paraphrased their song, Abracadabra, to them, declaring: 'Abracadabra. My lame excuse will reach out and grab you.' 'Really weak. All this stuff going on all the more reason people need an escape for a few hours,' said a third. 'This really doesn't make sense. There is no imminent danger. Play indoors?' said another. 'Venues should just boycott this band and not book them in the future given this lame excuse!,' noted a sixth fan. The band was set to perform through to November 8th, with their tour ending in Anaheim, California. 4 Steve Miller is the sole remaining original member of the group Credit: Getty
