Trump threatens stadium deal if ‘Redskins' name is not reinstated

Sky News AU4 days ago
US President Donald Trump has taken aim at the Washington Commanders, demanding they change their name back to its original title, the Redskins.
The team dropped the name in 2020 after it was considered offensive and racist towards Native Americans.
In April of 2025, the Commanders agreed to a deal to build a multi-billion-dollar stadium at RFK Stadium.
On Trump social, Trump floated the idea of restricting the stadium deal if the team does not change its name back to the Washington Redskins.
'I may put a restriction on them that if they don't change the name back to the original Washington Redskins and get rid of the ridiculous moniker Washington Commanders I won't make a deal for them to build a stadium in Washington."
"The team would be much more valuable and the deal would be more exciting for everyone."

Anthony Albanese avoiding ‘ritual humiliation' by Trump in the Oval Office

Former Howard government minister Peter McGauran discusses why Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is avoiding a meeting with US President Donald Trump. 'He doesn't want the ritual humiliation of the Oval Office meeting between Trump and foreign leaders until issues like the tariffs are resolved and the AUKUS review is completed,' Mr McGauran told Sky News Australia. 'We still do have the problem that Trump is demanding that his allies spend 3.5 per cent of GDP on defence acquisitions. 'I don't see how Albanese can have the full-blown Washington visit, Oval Office meet and greet, until he solves that problem.'

Trump administration raises ‘high jump bar' for Australia with AUKUS commitment

Former Howard government minister Peter McGauran says hardliners within the Trump administration have 'raised the high jump bar' for Australia to meet its commitments with the AUKUS pact. 'They are now asking potentially for commitments from Australia,' Mr McGauran told Sky News Australia. 'What are you going to do with those submarines? Supposing China invades Taiwan, will you support America in a conflict with China?'
