Former Washington safety dies at 51
Stevens, 51, died recently at his home in North Carolina.

A third-round pick by the Buffalo Bills in the 1996 NFL draft, he spent one season there before landing with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1997. He stayed with the Eagles in 1997, but was released midway through the 1998 season and signed by Washington. During his time with the Redskins, Stevens appeared in 33 games, making five starts, recording 87 tackles and seven interceptions. Stevens had six interceptions for the Redskins in 1999.
The Houston Texans later selected him in the 2002 expansion draft, where he spent his final two NFL seasons. For his career, Stevens finished with 108 games played, including 42 starts, 301 tackles and 13 career interceptions. Overall, Stevens played for five teams in a total of eight NFL seasons.
Stevens was involved in a tragic motorcycle accident in 2007 that left him paralyzed from the waist down. According to Eddie Maisonet III of the Houston Chronicle, Stevens regained mobility in 2011.
By 2011, through rehabilitation and specialized care, he regained mobility with the help of specialized leg braces.

Stevens leaves behind his parents, brother and two children.

Otherwise, he may be prepared to demand a trade out of D.C. 'If necessary, McLaurin will explore every option, including a holdout, a hold-in and a trade request, per the source. 'Everything will be on the table,' the source told me. But McLaurin is taking things day-by-day in hopes of hearing more from the Commanders, who have not talked to him about his contract in weeks — even after he spoke out about his dissatisfaction.' McKenna on McLaurin While the Commanders acquired Deebo Samuel this offseason, he was intended to be a complementary weapon that helps take attention away from McLaurin, not replace him. Yet, when Commanders training camp kicks off, it's possible Samuel will be the top target on the field. WASHINGTON (AP) — Cincinnati Reds manager Terry Francona had no idea what was in store when he went to the mound to make a pitching change in the fifth inning of Monday night's 10-8 loss to the Washington Nationals. Shortstop Elly De La Cruz tapped Francona on his left arm, causing the skipper to turn toward him. Then De La Cruz removed Francona's glasses and tried them on — and immediately threw back his head. Yeah, probably not the right prescription. Both then laughed as Francona put his glasses back in place. The two have had their share of light moments as the Reds fight for a playoff spot in Francona's first year at the helm. Josh Bell and Daylen Lile lead Nationals in 10-8 win over Reds
WASHINGTON (AP) — Josh Bell homered and doubled, Daylen Lile hit a three-run triple and the Washington Nationals beat the Cincinnati Reds 10-8 on Monday night with their biggest offensive output since July 3. They have won three of their last 13 games. Lile cleared the bases in a four-run first and Bell hit a second-deck solo homer, his 12th, in a three-run third to lead 7-0. The Nationals collected 15 hits, six for extra-bases including James Wood with two doubles. Brady House and Jacob Young had three hits each. The Reds strung together four straight RBI singles in a five-run fourth inning, knocking out Nationals starter Jake Irvin. Andrew Chafin (1-0), the fourth of seven Nationals pitchers, got the win with a hitless six inning. Reds starter Brady Singer (7-8) lasted just 2 1/3 innings, giving up seven runs on five hits and two walks. Six Reds relievers added six more walks and 10 hits.
