VP Dhankhar collapses during emotional reunion in Uttarakhand's Haldwani; condition now stable
DEHRADUN: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar collapsed suddenly in Haldwani on Wednesday during his three-day Uttarakhand tour. After receiving primary medical treatment, he was escorted to the Nainital Raj Bhavan by Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (retd).
Sources close to the administration revealed that the Vice President had arrived as the chief guest for Kumaon University's 50th-anniversary celebrations. His health unexpectedly deteriorated shortly after the event concluded. Earlier in the day, Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (retd) had welcomed him at the Haldwani Army Helipad upon his arrival for the tour.
During the Golden Jubilee ceremony at Kumaon University in Nainital, Vice President Dhankhar delivered a 45-minute address as the chief guest. He repeatedly referred to Dr. Mahendra Singh Pal, a former Member of Parliament who had served alongside him in 1989.

Dehradun, June 25 (UNI) Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar collapsed during the golden jubilee function of Kumaon University in Nainital today as he turned emotional while meeting his old-time parliamentary colleague Dr Mahendra Pal. The VP however returned to normal soon after, and was found hale and hearty as a team of doctors examined him at the event venue. Vice President Dhankhar was the chief guest at Kumaon University's Golden Jubilee celebrations in Nainital on the first day of his three-day visit to the state. While addressing the function, the VP recalled his days as Lok Sabha member with former fellow parliamentarian Dr Mahendra Pal who was present there as a guest. During his 45-minute address, VP Dhankhar repeatedly mentioned Mahendra Pal, who was a Member Parliament with him in 1989 and was present at the event. After the opening ceremony of the Kumaon University function was over and he was done with his speech, VP Dhankhar came down from the stage and embraced Dr Pal with emotion. Pal and Dhankhar spoke to each other about old times for five minutes. This made Dr Pal emotional and he was in tears. Dhankhar on the other hand couldn't hold his tears and hugged Dr Pal, a former Congress Lok Sabha MP in 1989. As Dhankhar and Pal embraced each other the Vice President couldn't hold on to the hug and collapsed there. As the VP collapsed a team of doctors was immediately called and provided him with preliminary medical care. Vice President Dhankhar was bought to normal by the medical team. After a brief rest, the doctors found him hale and hearty. Later VP Dhankhar left the venue with Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh to take rest at Raj Bhavan Nainital. Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar fainted on Wednesday (June 25, 2025) while attending the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Kumaon University here. As the Vice-President stepped down from the dais after delivering his speech, he approached his former parliamentary colleague, Mahendra Singh Pal, who was seated in the audience. Mr. Pal, an advocate in the High Court of Uttarakhand, served as a Lok Sabha MP in 1989 when Mr. Dhankhar was also an MP from Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan. Both men appeared to become emotional upon seeing each other. After talking to each other for a while, Mr. Dhankhar embraced Mr. Pal and appeared to pass out on his shoulders. Noticing something was wrong, the medical team accompanying the Vice-President quickly responded and brought him back to consciousness. Mr. Dhankhar soon recovered and proceeded to the Raj Bhawan, where he would spend the night. The Vice-President began his three-day visit to Nainital on Wednesday (June 25, 2025).
